So after Vlors poor excuse to pretend he's doing the right thing, I have a question.
Why is it that admins treat people like sh*t and can get away with it but the "Vets" as Vlor calls them, can't?

This would normally be the time I use the popcorn icon, but I am afraid to do so for fear of being rated down and/or nuked.

I am going to go out on a limb and say it's because the admins generally don't post in every thread like veterans tend to, and only pop in occasionally to herd the cats, at which point someone has likely been acting like an ******* in the thread.

Because they are admins. Of course they can get away with more than anyone else. And while i have certainly seen some somewhat questionable posts by admins over the years, i don't think i've ever seen one go completely over the line.

So if you have problems with multiple Admins or Moderators... is the problem them or you? (just curious, really).

Take a look at his replies in the thread he linked, and you can come to the proper conclusion.

If you have a problem with an Admin action in a forum, the correct proceedure to lodge a complaint is listed in the forum rules. Specifically section XV, as follows:

Quote:
XV. Administrator decision appeals process

Administrator and moderator rulings are very rarely overturned, however a decision may be appealed one of the following ways:

Appeal directly to the moderator or admin who took action via PM. This is the preferred method of resolving differences. Please make an effort to explain your situation and any extenuating circumstances.
Contact a different admin to get a second opinion. Please note that we will discuss any and all requests for second opinions with the original issuing admin along with all specifics. You will generally want to direct such inquiries to Kaolian.
Post directly in Forum=3.
E-mail Darqflame directly.

We require a specific complaint, and all complaints are addressed. Though not always in your favor. Please try and work out whatever differences you have with Vlorsuites prior to escallating a complaint.

All of our site Administrators have the Duty and right to address any posting behavior that they believe is contrary to the health of the forum. We try to maintain a fairly "hands off" approach, but when things get out of hand, we will appeal to the community to try and curb those negitive trends before we have to resort to more, unplesent... measures.

Admins are by requirement subject to different restrictions in some areas than users. When an admin issues a directive to you regarding forum policy, you must comply. When a user does so, not so much. That still doesn't give us a license to "treat people like sh*t" as you so elequantly put it, but there are also times when a harsh admin rebuke is preferable to banning a user outright, at the Administrator's discretion. Please feel free to review the forum rules (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=3&mid=122844326723865525&num=0&page=1) to answer any other questions you might have in leu of an officail complaint at this time.

Senior Forum Administrator Kaolian

Edit: P.S. I probably would have banned you after the ratebot incident if I had been the one that caught it, so consider yourself lucky.

That thread linked brought up something I'm now curious about(sorry if it has already been answered later in the thread, but I wanted to post my question while I was thinking about it).

Pikko wrote:
However, the report function is *relatively* new and isn't used as much as I thought it would be. The reports are plastered at the top of the site for ALL admins to see, so if you see something going wrong, that is by far the fastest way to get action. I highly recommend doing that. While we don't have volunteer mods, with the report function you're all given the chance to help us out by pointing us in the right direction.

Are we intended to use that feature for trolls/flame fests as well as the other things we use it for(questionable links from low posters, gold spam, etc)?

In my opinion, yes. If something needs moderating, it should be reported. It's much easier than picking an admin to PM and hoping they're online.

I'll keep that in mind. I had always assumed it was for more urgent things, like potential keyloggers and such(as in, the faster you get rid of it, the less likely someone will get hacked by it).

Vlor is saying "knock it off" in that thread. He's not asking for our opinions on the matter. It shouldn't be up for debate or discussion. Should be locked.

I'm not sure I understand the nature of the complaint.

As someone who played FFXI for about 3 years starting at the NA release, I can tell you straight up that the FFXI boards have changed dramatically since then and not in a good way. I hop over from time to time to see what is going on...nostalgia being what it is and all...and it seems to be roughly equal mix of ******** about SE and ******** at other forum users with a bit of benign content sprinkled in here and there for flavor.

The irony is that FFXI players tend to speak very highly of their sense of "community", a concept which would frequently appear to be shoved aside as soon as they log/tab out of the game. I guess for some people, it's necessary to kiss *** in the name of reputation in the game when you need people to help you get done what you want to do but when you're cruising teh wyld wyld intartoobz as a forum renegade, all bets are off.

I appreciate that SE can frequently walk around with fistfuls of sand, arbitrarily ramming it in manginas for no apparent reason beyond lulz, but from an outsider's perspective and my personal opinion, the FFXI boards are pretty lame for all the sniping and sniveling taking place there on a regular basis. A couple of months ago I decided to give the FFXI trial a shot to see what had changed and was going to post on the FFXI boards as a way to supplement the learning curve, but decided that by and large it wasn't worth posting in that cesspool and expecting a reasonable response.

If an admin is going to take it upon themselves to go sheriff for a while and clean up the joint, it's only doing the FFXI community a favor. FFXI isn't exactly thriving these days and even the people thinking about jumping ship at FFXIV launch probably have about a year to wait. You don't want to be driving away fresh blood. You can't afford it.

I don't mind someone trying to clean up the place, but Vlor has accused me of trolling in this thread, when I haven't. He put words in my mouth, saying that I've insulted and degraded the op, though I did nothing of the kind.

I don't care if he wants to play cop and robbers, but there are other posters out there that he can make an example out of, posters that actually do the things he accused me of.

Not sure I agree with the accusation of trolling, but perhaps some of the advice could have been sent in PM instead of publicly.

Are we reading the same thread? You were a complete **** in that post. I agree with Vlor 100%. And he didn't put any words in your mouth; he quoted you exactly.
