Seriously?

Multiple page threads about dat-mining after a new update, but you lock a thread about changing a font?

Links to windower, seriously...

Considering it's WELL known here, we do NOT condone windower here, in fact we hate it.

Windower has nothing to do with the OP. There's a link to the windower forums in a reply, that's it.

Only one post linked to windower's site, and none of them had to do with windower.

Be sure and report the correct post, it's not my job to spend hours upon hours reading to every thread to decide if it's actually windower or not. I don't play FFXI, easier for me to nuke it entirely.

And I have better things to do than babysit. Make a thread and be sure it doesn't have windower in it, if it does, report THAT post, not the OP. Thanks.

I wasn't reporting a post. I was asking why the entire thread was locked. I linked correctly.

You didn't just nuke the thread though. You deleted my post with just the name of the most commonly used ui mod, you deleted bsphil's (i think?) link to where to find it (which was windower's forum, so i can almost understand that), as well my other post with a link to a ui mod i made myself.

I originally locked it because I was asking someone questions about it. How many times do I have to tell you, I don't play ffxi and if it gets reported, never said by whom, we moderate. If you want to continue to interrupt my evening by me having to argue with you instead of find out what is actually legal and what is not, we can do that and not get anything accomplished.

I didn't realize I was arguing anything.

If that's the issue, then I suggest scolding the person(s) who reported incorrectly, not the people who are wondering why the thread and posts were locked/nuked.

A thread can and will be locked for many reasons. Windower posts, general trends in a thread that needs a pre-emptive lock based on the experiance and judgement of the Admin, flaming in forums that there shouldn't be flaming, +1 rate up posts created too liberally, spamming, advertising, and Administrator Discretion.

I stand by my administrators, and I will very rarely overturn their decisions unless there is a very good reason, and usually only after talking the matter over with them prior to taking action. The reason a post is locked may be due to a nuked post you can no longer see. It might be due to something that was edited out by the user or the admin.

While it is nice to see an explanation for a lock, I rarely post an explanation in threads I feel are self evident as to why they were locked myself. The explanation may have been sent via PM as well. Or there may have been none forthcoming, in which case contacting the locking admin is the best route to find out why.

A locked thread isn't a penalty. It doesn't affect your post count or your karma. it is merely a moderation tool. FFXI CM's have determined that they wish to have a higher level of lock on certain topics to activly discurage them based on past experiance with such threads, community reaction to such threads, and in order to maintain a good relationship with the game managers.

If you feel a thread has been locked in error, please contact the locking admin. We don't bite (well not many of us, and the others have had their shots) and so long as a request for clarification is presented in a non overtly hostile maner, we are usually quite willing to explain our reasoning and on occasion reconsider if you present a superior arguement. Or you also have the discretion of starting a different thread with the offending material ommitted.

If you ever need a thread looked at, I'm happy to take a look. And i'm pretty good about checking PM's.
