It's all white and blinding, like the new "side" bar now though.

I think it's ugly; it looks like someone whitewashed my screen.

Also, I already miss the dropdown menus.

I miss the dark background color Smiley: frown

I kinda like the menu bar, though. Any chance of letting us customize the "Forums" bar?

Hmm - can't say I'm a huge fan of it. It seems incomplete to me; accidental release of it?

I don't like how the sub nav resets. If I click on account, and go to one of my account pages, the sub nav should default to the account section, not reset to forums.

I've been using the allakhazam.com "News" skin and been redirected to this freakish thing. Let me use my old skin, please -- there's a reason why I was using that and not this piece of crap.

There are a few glitches that need to be fixed with the new menu. There's 3 different items that reset incorrectly that we're aware of.

We can't support that 2 generation old skins. A few things were breaking on it with this update and when we looked at the numbers all of about 20 people were using it. I just couldn't justify the development hours to maintain it anymore.

We're happy to make style changes to make the forums more readable with constructive criticism that we receive from our users. Thousands of people using a site are going to find things that just the staff alone aren't going to find or comment on.

This one is overly colorful, doesn't extend to the screen edge like the old one and is filled with buttons and toggles for stuff I don't care about creating a cluttered look.

The old one was simple gray tones, used the full screen length and wasn't covered with extraneous junk.

In other words, as a user, I don't care how many generations old the previous skin was if the new skin is covered with colors and "features" that make it obnoxious. I don't know why upgrading its functionality had to include completely changing its color scheme and look.

Let us choose not to see the blinking images and scrolling text (WTF is this? Geocities?), and darken the background.

Just remember that a whole lot of us are using the site from work or school, and be a little considerate of that.

Unless my boss talked you into this, of course.

blinking images and scrolling text? Unless it's an advertisement that is flash with movement, nothing should be blinking or scrolling.

Nope, I don't see ads. I'll peek at it again when I can get away with it and tell you exactly what left me with that impression.

Oh, I get it. My mouse was on the left-hand side and the story images were flashing back and forth. Still not good against the light background, but not as bad as I thought.

I won't be using it, anyway.

I'm not one to whine and complain but the light colors are really not my thing. I use the zam skin specifically to avoid that.

Also, I can't click through to wow class forums right now, I get 404 errors when loading db/class.html

I have a feeling that regardless of what people say, this skin will remain as-is (or very close).

Probably. We can 't force a change; all we can do is voice our opinions.

A lot of people like light color skins on zam.com so they are less conspicuous. If your browser is set for 1024x768, there's very little dark and it looks more like a work/school type application.

Your opinions count for a lot. While we're not going to make massive changes we will tweak the styling. That the site appears very white washed in the forums is a valid complaint that we are looking into fixing.

The new ZAM design will continue to undergo tweaks with time, but yes, it is unlikely to undergo a radical change soon after another. But we do closely monitor feedback and bring it up in discussion and will continue to take it in to account in future changes as we have in the past. We can't hope to please everyone, but we will do our best to take constructive criticism in to account. :)

Just a suggestion, for massive skin changes like this it may be smarter to implement it in a temporary location and get feedback before simply replacing a well-liked skin.

No, it really doesn't which is why people are asking about/for it. We know what it looks like and how similar it is to other applications -- we're staring at it right now.

We did, just not from a very large audience.

A problem we've run into in the past is that by specifically asking people for feedback and then not using or taking it all they can feel hurt. "What's the point in asking me if you won't listen?" type thing. It can also tend to prohibitively extend the whole feedback and tweaking process to a very long amount of time over very small details that just amount to personal preference.

It's a tricky balancing act.

It's as close as it's going to get. If you want something even more basic, try the mobile site forums? http://m.zam.com

Really, I was happy with the format of the old one. It's a pity that you had to radically change it. At least don't insult people by telling them it really does serve the same visual function as the last one.
