SOE gave up and are making their own "playerauctions" thingie.

On the one hand, making servers with auctions and other without seems like the safest way of getting rid of the plat buyers...

On the other hand, I believe that, since people who buy items/currency are often doing so to have an advantage over other people, I think it will just make the RL price of "non-exchange" server items go up, making the currency sellers concentrate on these.

It's basically: "we give up, eat this up and shut up".

...what do you guys think about it ?

(one thing is for sure, SOE does love money. probably more than they care for their game...)

Yuck.

My biggest concern is that A)This is terribly unsuccesful, and instead of isolating this two servers, SOE decides to allow it on all servers, or B)This is such a raging success that SOE decides instead of limiting such an incredible profit opportunity to two servers, they will encourage it on all servers.

Did I mention yuck?

I'm particularly scared that it may become a norm in MMOs.

I dont think they thought it though, I think it was an idea somone came up with, ran it to his boss who liked the idea dn WHAM! its being implemeted.

It could turn out to be the solution but it can also turn out to be a disaster...

But how many solutions do they actually have? I'm sure they have spent a lot of hours and peoples wages for these hours to get a solution for this illegal activity.

I don't know how it is against gilsellers/gilbuyers on the EQ servers, but maybe it's just a clever way to catch those buying gil? You head to the station, buy 1mil in gil and *boom* you're deleted?

Just a thought, that maybe this is going to catch a few gilbuyers instead of joining in with the gilsellers.

For years, SOE has put the almighty dollar very much above ethics or any other preoccupation...
They're gonna poll people and move some to new servers that are opening up specifically for the "exchange" project.

So I definitely wouldn't count on it, although it could be pretty efficient.

I'm just starting to wonder though. Since it will be so facilitated, I believe many more people might partake in it, as it might not be as much of a "taboo" as before.
If it becomes a widely used system...
Will kids load their parent's credit cards in debt ?
Will obsessive gamers start having very real financial problems because of this ?
Will more stories like the one of the guy in Shanghai come up ?

...will the legal authorities take a stand on this because of now real life consequences ?...
