I figured i would ask the community it's thoughts on the following.

I have always desired having a keypad capable of basically holding all my spells at the touch of a button. I am not too fond of the way the macros work in FFXI as i feel sort of limited.

I am considering purchasing a product like this:

www.kinesis-ergo.com/savant_58key.htm

Now in my eyes i see this as no different then using a special controller, yes i see the potential for abuse however my intent would be for one touch access to all my spells.

Thoughts?

I would say go for it. If it will help you play the game better, it not only benefits you, but the people in-game as well that you would play with.

Some people may argue that it is a "third party tool" but I would not consider it so. I would think that SE was more against third party programs than third party hardware. Actually, now that I think about it, you can't really have third party hardware by their standards, because then that would mean that they would have the power to dictate whether or not you are allowed to use one keyboard instead of another.

In ANY case, its definitely nowhere as scandalous as the new plugin interface for the latest windower ;D. Thus, as I said, I would go for it if I were you =:R.

Got another option for you.

Logic Controls LK1800U

USB 132key keyboard. All 132 keys are programmable and 44 are relegendable with key caps.

http://www.logiccontrols.com/web/prodLK18.htm

You can get a model without the MSR (magnetic stripe reader). This way you have a full function keyboard and macro monster all in one.

You should be able to get it for less than the advertised $189US for the other one.

Yeah, it does say something,
It says that people are now paying 200$ for a keyboard program so they won't be annoyed with bad macroes...

Basicallly it says that people are paying WAY too much for small details in this game.

And also, the whole "3rd party tool" thing.. yeah, if SE calls that a 3rd party program, a lot of people are gonna be pretty pissed.

I saw this on Attack of the Show today, I thought it was awesome.

The buttons are wireless, and you stick them where you want on the little pad thing.

Check it out.
