Bah. Do you realize how much R3 drops from ENM now? It used to be a decent piece of loot to split, now it's easier to just let people lot.
I don't think I've even seen R3 the last 7 Kirins I've done. Besides, between the BLM party KSNM & Tomato's non-stop Genbu fest, they still are barely pushing V. Claw under 5 million.
Everyone loves to blame gilsellers for raising prices through the roof. Sure, they're a part of it. But let's also look at:
- People who buy gil. When you can take a few bucks, plop it down at your favorite website, and buy the gear of your dreams, why worried about how that screws everyone else?
- High levels renting gear. When I needed to level WHM, I bought astrals for a few days. When I needed to level THF, I bought emp. hairpin & leaping boots. Was I worried about the price? No, because I'd resell them when I was done, and eat the auction fees.
- Whether they farmed it, bought it, crafted it, stole it, whatever...there's a HUGE amount of gil floating around in the game. People buy flame rings for a +1 STR boost over Ruby, don't you think that maybe they have a little bit of disposable income?
I'm just tired of the constant "omg the gilsellers did this", "omg he must buy gil", "omg SE patch is coming out, it's going to ruin X, won't fix Y, they'll just do Z" attitude that seems to be the party line in any forum.
But anyways, I got off on a rant. This still doesn't negate the fact that your one line premise is flawed. It simply doesn't make economic sense to try and tie up a single mob, just to raise prices.
Please, in this hypothetical example, explain to me why this would happen (and if it did, why it would be bad.):
Emperor's Hairpin now drops in ENM30.
GilfarmerJoe is mad about this, and kills VE for 2 years straight. The new hairpin from VE is rare/ex, so these all just drop off into the ether.
Lyden tries to camp VE, but cannot beat the mighty gilfarmers. He gets some friends together, and does ENM30s until the hairpin drops. He is happy.
How does GilfarmerJoe make any money here? Does he have a crack team of ENM specialists doing this as well? Does he have 50000 accounts set up to get around the 96 hour restrictions?
Please. If SE gives people a reasonable way to get an item, and they STILL want to buy it, let them.
