I wanted to know this.
Which following combo do you think is the best tank to duo a NM or HNM with a healer job.

Pld/nin #1

War/nin #2

Nin/war #3

Mnk/nin #4

Be honest about this and I know ninja is a good tank but I want to see if other choices apply.

mnk/nin or war/nin. The others won't deal damage as fast IMO.

but yea thf/nin deserves some mention as well. open with SA then a few mins into the fight let healer get hate and SA again, it should be pretty well planted on you then.

Also these work best 74+ so you have Ni with the /nin sub.

We have a pair in our LS, THF/NIN and RDM/NIN that go out and Duo things for the challenge and they have been pretty successful.

Funny, a thread in the THF forum similar to this just apeared about the best duo partner for a THF. Pretty much a THF/NIN is one of the best end-game soloers out there. So when you talk duo, you are talking about 2 people who can pretty much take on anything. If this is not a contest of who can kill the fastest, but instead who has the largest array of monsters they can duo, then THF turns out to be better then the ones you listed. If it is a contest of who can kill the H/NM faster, then probably MNK/NIN or WAR/NIN would win that game.

The patch introduced something new though. Certain HNMs that were soloable by THF no longer are b/c of the god mode they go under (see IDDQD). So if a THF were to duo these now, they would need a partner that can do considerable DD without getting killed. I guess in these couple cases a WAR/NIN would be better for duos. There is another option where a THF could duo them with a SMN. You get the best of both worlds. A THF tank that can keep hate and a healer that can DD without taking hate or dammage.

Your question is a bit vague. What job would the NM/HNM in question be? This could make a huge difference in what type of tank would be best.

Is it a caster?, Is it a MNK?, What abilities does it have?

I would think you would need to give more information if you want the best possible answers.

MNK/NIN with Melee gaiters, counter gear, etc. can tank ALOT of stuff in this game. But this is all dependant on what you're fighting of course. MNK/NIN vs. Charybdis is pretty damn awesome, if I do say so myself.

Umm? Paladin/nin isn't even good solo/duo/party/alliance since you'll basically lose a shadow everytime you're hit just about and spend alot of your time getting shadows on to the point where it's not ever worth it. PLD/WAR is better than PLD/NIN in my opinion.

Thf/nin and and nin/war are probably the best.

I'd suggest war/nin since they do the most damage of the combo. Pld/nin would be great if it only had provoke; also pld/nin is good if you don't like dying (best defence in the entire game with the *you can't f'in hit me* of nin, and *go ahead and hit me ya crusty ******** of pld IMO) but you have 0 offence, little damage, and 0 hate control. Trick attack might be a good alternitive to voke, and cure can **** of the mob, but nuttin beats good ol' voke.

Now, if PLD had a voke type job ability........

Different tanks are useful at different situation. There is no best tank for every situation.

For example, Whm's bless, zenith, and noble gears. none is "the best" of all, but each holds adavantages over others in varied situation.

Most War/nin and Nin/war with tanking gears won't be doing any noticible dmg (maybe beside initial spirit within) on gods and HMN.
