genius!

now go level your THFs, and craft. kthx.

You sir, are completely overlooking the true value of this post. First off, at what point in this post did I say I understand the economy, I am all knowing and I knew so much about the subject. Second, what makes you think that you know JACK? - that YOU know so much about the subject.

I posted this thread, with the intention of not explaining why what is taking place on our server is. I posted to 1) Ask what is happening to our server. 2) Why is this happening-RMT, Regular Players. 3) I just wanted us to consider the pain it's causing others to not even be able to buy the most mediocre items, because they are becoming quite unobtainable.

Your post is kinda hypocritic. At least if you are going to bash others who are asking questions, and working on solving a problem-then post something helpful, or perhaps a little more courteous. No hard feelings, but you just overlooked the intrinsic value of the thread. I'm just a concerned member of the server wanting to know how we can solve a problem, maybe you should also man. Isaiah

I keep going back and forth on this issue. I've never really been able to grasp the concept of RMT (I actually had to look it up - forgot what it stood for), I paid $50 for the game and about $15/month to play. I honestly don't want to pay more for the game.

There are certain items that I would love to have for my Monk, but I have learned to live without them and make alternative choices. I always try to find alternative ways to acquire stuff, whether it's crafting or farming. It usually ends up being both; farming items for 4-5 different levels of synths.

Now, I'm not looking for responses here but ask yourself this question. Are you concerned about the economy on Bismarck or are you concerned about the things you cannot afford and would like to have? Now, theoretically apply that to all the players on Bismarck and try to determine how easy or difficult it would be to change the economy.

I noticed something just last night. Not only is the higher-end gear going up, but, have you looked at the price of Centurion's gear lately? It's gone up quite substantially. I mean the stuff isn't even all that great. I prefer it over Eisen- gear, which is why I looked over the price. I bought my first set (Cent. gear) for 10k a piece and now it's almost 60k for a piece or two each?

I really don't care about the stuff I'd like. I mean sure, I'd love to have a Scorp. Harness, 2 Sniper's, Colossal Lance, and Forager's Mantle for my Drg, but doing the stuff I do to make gil, it's probably not going to happen for a long time.

As in my previous post, I asked how is it going to be possible for us not-so-fortunate folk to go and advance in level if we have to spend a huge amount of time farming or crafting?

I have to ideas to give people: 1.) Go kill tons of Orcs/Yagudo/Quadav. or 2.) Go and farm your a$$ off for Beastmen Seals as a lower level job.

Well, one way to help lower prices would be to tell your friends who are bazaaring out in Rolanberry Batalia and Saromugue to come back in to Jeuno and pay their AH tax.

We need to get some gil out of the system for one, that will slow inflation. But since I've never taken any economics course or anything of the sort I can't say what we can do to stop it, but as soon as you find out tell me... I'm all for it!

The only problem with the economy as you(those who think the prices are crazy) see it is really that the value of gil has dropped a lot so that gil you were saving has stayed at its value. Yes there have been price hikes but they eventually even out.

The solution is simple buy something that has a value it will eventually go up. My Emp Pin was 700k when i got it, even after releasing the Rare/Ex version the price kept climbing Sold mine for 3million. Now what woulda happened to my 700k had i not invested in the pin? Nothing.... That's my point this game is a lot like real life if you want your money to grow you don't burry it in you mattress you invest it and hope the investment pays off. But of course most of you are probably looking for a quick turn around or a get rich quick plan. How do you make money in the real world? you work for it or at least i do. Same goes in the game now the trick is figuring out what you can do for "work" that will yeild the most play time. For me it was investing and Woodworking/Smithing/Goldsmithing.

Edit:

Fact. There is no way to dump gil out of FFXI quickly and that is why the prices will keep going up as more gil is generated via chests/beastman than there is being emptied out through Taxes.

ok, Simple. Look at it this way, the things everyone farms, have gone up also, Silk? Tree Cutting? Oils?
Everything is going up, but the things everyone always has thier eyes on are the big items. Yes, poeple are stingy.
As a crafter, I look for ways to control what I'm selling, you cant put too meny on the AH, or the price goes down, but if you put one at a time up, Hey! I can put it up for a little bit more.
The simplest way for the SE to drop prices would be to, make drop rates higher, this would cause the AH to flood, Just like veryone saw the Peacock Charm do.
6 were on the AH, (because so meny poeple did the BCNM) the price hit a all time low of 5M! Then, everyone found out the drop rate was crap! Less poeple did the BCNM, less were on the AH, leading to the price to jump back up again.
If you know whats going on you can make alot of gil, knowing when to sell, buy, and hold is the key.

But the point of the matter is, EVERYTHING is going up, not just the big stuff, its nothing to freak out over, unless you buy gil, and you now have to pay more for your vemy you want so much.

absolutely, Reece. well said. now if you think about it, one sure way to 'raise the drop rate' would be for everyone who farms to do so with treasure hunter or treasure hunter 2, since this is the only means by which SE allows increased drops.

SE has given every player character the ability to experience increased drop rates on items, or not, we already have direct control over item creation, when it comes to BCNM runs (farming seals and winning battles to produce high ticket items) or simple farming of commodities for crafting (cloths, lumbers, ores, chemicals, etc), and all that remains is for the player characters themselves to put in the work to create the extra supply, and reduce prices.

so... level your THF. kthx =]

Hmm, so just because there is not one at the AH, that is reason to bump the price up 100, 200, 300k? I'm sorry but I'm guna say it, it's the people that do that, that hurt everyone, the ENTIRE server. Just because there isn't one up doesn't mean you have to bump the price up so much-or even at all. I just don't understand it.

And one more question, if I'm wrong, then I'm totally sorry. But, there is a mule in Hall of Gods, named Reecesmule or something like that? I take it that one is yours. The one selling Silent Oils for 3.8k EACH... Where do you get off doing that, you know you could easily sell them for AH price there, or just a little bit more, and make a KILLER profit still.

In the end, it all comes down to each small player making his or her own mark on this server. The way it works, functions, feels, and the experience we will enjoy/or disgust in, is each peron's duty also.

PS: If that's not your mule I'm sorry and I will shoot mysef in the toe.

There is also other issues of why pipl do RMT alot of pipl have only about a few hrs averaging from 1~4 hrs a day. Since they rather lvl there jobs in a non-stop pace w/o cutting there time farming and what not. Also pipl who race for who gets to a higher lvl first can influence a player to cheat there for buy gil. We cant tell these pipl to just play a solo game because that would be rude and very unlikly pipl would listen anyway. I do agree with reece that they should have increased the drop rates but then again SE is still thinking more hrs spent on game the = the more pipl get addicted to it. though they put a diclaimer that you shouldnt forget about work, family school etc. Thats just a cover for any lawsuit they might get. If this game was so easy to make money not alot of profit for SE if 1 mil pipl stop playing in 3 months due to completing everything in the game.

LOL Stegan, what's with your obsession on everyone leveling THF.

Anyway's, has anyone ever thought that maybe SE is also making a profit off of IGE and other Gil buying/selling sites? Think about it... what's a better way to get ppl to do something then by telling them that they can't. (example: it's against TOS to buy or sell gil or accounts) Now I'm not saying that "everyone" buys gil or accounts, but we know some ppl do it. Do they get in trouble? I think not. With the exception of all those accounts that got banned earlier this year (supposedly accounts of gil sellers), I don't think things are going to change much.

Just about ever server is going through the same thing. Some worse then others. Ok, I forgot what the point I was trying to make (am sick with a high fever right now), so i'll just stop here.

because the best way to help someone is to teach them how to help themselves. take a look at the posts that complain about not having any way to make gil. they say something like:

"i can't afford anything, and at the rate i make gil i can't keep up with inflation"

or else "i can never get the drops i need" or something like that.

then look at the jobs they list in their sig. they list a 11 PLD or a 7 RNG, but suspiciously, NO THF.

connection? maybe.

tell ya what. here's an experiment you can do yourself. go to the THF job boards and start a thread like "why can't i ever make any gil =\" and post a rant about never having any gil or making any gil, and see what they say. you won't find many poor THFs, i promise. maybe some who can't afford Emp Pin/Leaping Boots when they hit level 24/level 7, but who can? i guarantee you won't find a poor THF at level 60, much less level 75.

**** man, i know a THF on our server who makes all his money just selling crap to NPC's he can't help it. his inventory is constantly overflowing, and he doesn't even have THF knife or Relic hands, which grant TH3 and TH4 respectively.

it's not an obsession, it's common sense. level THF to 15 and check the description in the abilities menu for Treasure Hunter. want to know what it says?

Increases chances of getting treasure.

kind of a no-brainer.

I just thought I'd post this. I get better drops if I don't sub Thf. Ask anyone of my shell members. I have gotten some pretty rare drops w/o TH. I got Stroper to drop (1/8) as Drg/War. I also got Assault Jerkin w/o TH of which I'm 1/5 on. I even got a Moldavite Earring 1st kill hehe. I don't know. I seem to have better luck w/o the use of TH.

Now if I'm killing a mob that drops gil (Gigas, gobs, orcs, etc...) then Thf works best. Gilfinder makes a big difference from what I've seen. Meh, just my two cents.

I've also heard this from another person though. He said he never camped as ???/Thf. He told me he had better luck as ???/War.

I got my Thf to 19 so far. I don't have much drive to take it further only because it's a pain to level in the dunes.

Unfortunately, the problem with inflation doesn't have anything to do with what people WANT to charge, anymore than it does in RL. If you believe that, go out and place an ad for your car at triple its price and tell your boss you want triple the pay.

Tomorrow, if everyone in Bismarck asked for ten times more on their auction house prices, nothing would happen simply because no one can simaltaneuously increase the actual amount of GIL everyone has in their inventory by 10 times.

In RL (just as in the game), if items go up a LOT (gasoline prices anyone), then other things have to give. Less pricy food, fewer TVs sell, fewer trips to ball games etc. Then a few people lose jobs at the ball park, at the restaurant, TV store. Then those people have less for snacks, video games, etc. Then the convenience store lays off someone, Etc, etc. We dont get more money (GIL) just becuase we want it!

If prices tripled recently its only due to one of two reasons:

1) the actual item is more 'valuable' than before. Valuable only means buyers 'think' it is---not that it really has changed. The Mona Lisa sold for 4,000 (of whatever currency they had in the day) around 1510 and was valued at over $600 million recently. Its the same painting. Wrose still its ONLY poplar and paint. It doesn't give you +accuracy or magic attack bonus even.

2) the other possibility is that massive NEW gil is being created in the game. Hack or exploit anyone?? If there was massive amounts of new gil that would explain why items suddenly rocketed in price and why gil now sells for much less.

IMHO, unless someone knows of an exploit (I haven't heard of one or seen one posted), I think its option #1. People have gotten used to thinking items are worth $xx and now people are realizing they are worth more. Perhaps former RNG are spending gil on armor, perhaps players are tired of saving gil, perhaps crafters are tired of not getting paid well. So the rest of use run more (no choco), buy fewer pots, hustle more NPC quests, etc. Ultimately, a few people collect more because we agree that scorpions and sleepga2's are worth more. (We dont ALL have to agree, just enough buyers to make it work. It only takes one buyer to believe the Mona Lisa is worth $600 million.)

To clarify...EVERYTHING has not tripled. Many of the highest priced RNG items for example are flat as heck going back 3 months and several high priced BLM (most pendants) items and MNK (cross counters) items I have seen are the same as 1-2 months ago. Only some items have gone up.

On a server with 40,000 players with a total of (total GUESS by me) about 20,000,000,000 gil (thats 1/2 million per person~some of you have lots more than that and many have less), it seems possible prices will go up a lot on individual items if people decide they are more valuable than they thought before.

Just my opinion. I am not trying to justify inflation, just a comment on my opinion of what it is.

Indeed greed plays a very important part in the troubles we seem to be having on the server at the moment. Recently (in fact it was two days ago) I had just completed a BCNM 60 with my RL friend and another LS friend. The drops were good and i ended up with almost 2 million gil (since we did a three way split). Currently i'm a level 64 Black Mage and was saving (and had been saving for a long time) for my Penitent's Rope and Elemental Torque, two of the best items out there for Black Mages. Now, at this moment (heh, this could so easily have changed) P ropes are around 2.5 million gil, whilst E torques were 2.2 million gil. In essence that's 5 million gil for a 64 BLM to try to get. But anyway, after long hard savings i had enough to buy both items (or so i thought). The rope wasn't a problem, but the torque i knew was going to be. The prices had been erratic through the last few sales due to a low supply. I checked the auction house and there were none in stock, the last couple sold for 2.2 million.

I proceeded to {/shout} in Lower Jeuno for an E torque. The only offers i got were ones of 3 million or over from people with them in their bazaars. This made me very angry. I enquired as to why they were selling them at almost 1 million overprice and no answer was given. Pure greed in my opinion. I wasn't having any of it, and waited a while for E torques to come back in to stock. For any of you wondering why i didnt wait until i was level 65, i refer you back to several posts regarding the rising price of items. If i hadn't have bought it quick, the prices would have kept rising in the usual modern Bismarck economy. I eventually bought one for 2.5 million. I have a feeling in 2 weeks it will be a lot more.

I do have some sympathy for the people that rack up the prices of items. After all, they are just trying to save money for their next super-item (which is likely to be dramatically inflated in price). It is a cycle which must be stopped. How, i do not know. I was thinking today about it and thought maybe SE could impose that nobody could sell an item at the AH for more or less than 10% of the previous sale (once a nominal sale price had been established, to account for new items) and then this modified quartely, or monthly or whatever would be neccasary. I don't know how effective this would be, but it sounded reasonable at the time.

i think it has a lot to do with a lot of people hitting 75, its a lot easier to make money when your level 75. also a lot of people are getting 2nd and 3rd jobs at 75, and they want the l33tist gears they can get for all there jobs. so now there is less leet gears on the AH to buy, so people are forced to pay more. same thing for the lower level equipment, we have level cap areas, and people want the best equips they can have for those levels. i know i have some nice war equips for levels 30 and 40, that equipment is pretty much out of the system now (it just sits on my mules till i need it), same for my blms and rdm jobs. i didn't level past them levels and put that stuff back on the AH. if everyone does this with rare gears then the price goes up, because everyone wants to be awesome.

i heard someone bought like 27 d. ingots over the course of a week trying to make a cursed hauburk -1, prices sky rocketed, because hello, everyone and there brother is leveling war and sam, and everyone expects you to have one or you suck.

I've never understood this at all concider i've made 80% of all my gil on my lvl 7 mule which i leveled woodworking on. I've spent time farming a lot of stuff people even @75 usually can't farm as effecently and i still only average 60-100k/hr farming assuming i get good drop rates or 60-200k/hr mining in Oldton Movopolus/Gusgen. Now with my mule i averaged 100-200k/hr from making acid/bloody bolts and AHing them in Sandy and Jeuno. True i used my main to sell in jeuno but hey people get lvl 1 mules to jeuno so it doesn't take high lvls to get there.

I do agree with this concidering i held gear for my SMN, WHM, and NIN but i was leveling those off and on all the time. I also kept gear for missions but who doesn't.

Quote:

With all the new food options I don't really understand this becuase i've seen "gimpy" and "uber" people at their jobs and barring a few things for some jobs it makes little differnce to me sure the uber would do like 100-300 more damage but how many people notice that in a normal pt?

Quote:

This doesn't really surprise me but everytime i've seen this happen with items that are hard to HQ there would be a lot of NQs needing to be sold so the prices tend to drop. For example that i can think of when this first happened Amamet Mantles and Blue Capes but that's also because these items aren't as hard to get which i do think is one of the biggest problems with some other items but then they wouldn't be rare and hard to come by items/gear. SE never intended for everyone and their mother to have a Haubergeon/Hauburk/Scorpion Harness or anything concidered "uber".
I've owned a Haubergeon and Scorpion Harness and due to Sushi and other foods they are over rated. They are nice but not needed.
Does a BLM need the Wisket set when XPing? concidering most BLMs don't get to nuke as much anymore endgame due to the larger amounts of damage they already do, do they need to do more? No, do they want to? Sure why not but that's not a NEEDED thing.
The uber gears are luxory items they always have been and always will be. Just because some moron thinks you have to have X armor to be good at X job doesn't mean they are right. Most everyone i've ever PTed with while i was around that was worth anything to their job didn't care about what you had/did as long as you got the job done well.

Not everyone will be the uberst leet becuase if they all were then it wouldn't be so uber leet now would it? This i think is what many people are forgetting when they play. Anyone remember the Dunes? how many of us went there in uber gear? did we still get the job done decently? I'd like to think so.

You'd be blind not to see the trend that is going on. Since it is impossible to stop it really, I'd suggest that everyone invests in whatever pieces of equiptment they can afford and hope for the best. I personally spent my entire fortune n a few items about a month ago, and have probably made a decent return.

Don't expect to see a vast drop in prices any time soon, people in the chrismas mentality right now.

basically I'd grab high end brd blm nin and war gear FTW! (or you could just go KS and BCNM crazy and flood the market.

Wow guys! I too have noticed the massive server inflation that we have had, but I have talked to other people on servers and they say everything is going up there to.
Ok and back to the Vermillion Cloak, Hauby, Scorp. Harness etc.
One day I was bored and looking on the AH to realize that Vermy was up to around 10-13 mil..:( Anyways so I go and look at the HQ version of it (Royal Cloak) only to notice that it is almost excactly the same price as the NQ version of it...this is almost the same for the SH and haub too >.>
But what got me wondering was (this may be a weird question but..) How do these prices get so high? Does one person just decide to put a vermy up for 12mil and see if it sells? Or does a big group of people conspire and put multiple items up for a higher price..lol?

Thanks!
