My main 'realization' before I quit: People, my friends, who I never thought would turn into elitest snobs, were changing. It was a big big reason for my quitting. Watching people I've known for years turn into the people we 'hated'. Watching people ONLY want things, and not experiences, or not helping new people get experiences, made me sick.

I guess I have been seeing this too, in people that I never thought would get like that.

Discuss.

Why discuss? Happens to everyone, just depends to what extent.... I know I've stopped helping a lot of my friends at *every* occasion because I've had things I've wanted to do, or didn't want to do.

Yeah, it's a shame.. one of my best friends turned real elitest, but I'm also happy to say many have not turned full elitest BS type people, they show hints but they're also very fun and can still act like the noobs we were together so long ago.

But, that is where you're wrong, hasn't happened to me... some of my aquantances have turned out this way, but none of my friends, I have a very ridgid set of values and beliefs that carry over into all aspects of my life, including this game... I could never befriend a person who would become some eliist prick, I get to know people exteremely well before I would ever consider them friends.

I think people let others in way to soon and are too trusting. One thing to remember, especially over the internet:(To paraphrase Chris Rock) When you meet someone you're not really meeting them, you're meeting their "repersentative", this is not who they really are. Get to know someone first, get to know their goals in and out of game and their views on life, etc before you consider them 'friends' and you won't have to worry about these kinds of things.

Well Tenchi I hear what you're saying, but you're really going to tell me that not once since you've hit 60+ you've stopped in the middle of an EXP party just to go chill with your friend in La Theine while they level a level <10 job?

Hmm... I know I haven't just because I've wanted that little bit more exp and whatnot, not saying I wouldn't go help my friends but I usually don't do it as fast as I am able to anymore.

I agree that everyone whats a item or a level or something. Ask your self, when was the last time you and a friend went to some zone and messed around? Explored? I went to gusgen[tab] and explored. I never knew there were ghosts that floated around and scared the crap out of you. I messed around with a oil and fell down a hole. 10 min later it attacked me again! It was the most fun I had in a while. Try exploring for fun, instead of reward, just once?

Jesus Christ were you trying to meetingagain us?

Now, my personal sentiment aside, where's left to explore now? Once you've hit 75, you've been basically everywhere worth being. Sure, that'll change when TAU comes out and make exploration possible (ooh, meetingagain parallel the second), but until then there just isn't anywhere to go :(

spenta, if you didn't care you wouldn't have said anything.

and back off of jaden man. that ***** just not cool. its not like i go around saying hi to everybody i have on my f-list or ls all the time, nobody does. if you get that pissed over somebody not sending you a tell that simply says "hello" every time they log on, you have some issues that need to be worked out

This is not quite the same thing... actually not really close, if a friend needed help with something and I'm in exp, I can, will, and have left parties for this... I always try to get a replacement or something else first. Of course I won't drop everything and come that very second, nothing in FFXI is really that important, it's a game after all. Hell I stayed @50 for damn near a year helping friends, 55 for months after that. That's just who I am. Now I don't expect everyone to do that, it's unreasonable to expect that. But I'm letting you know this because I'm sure there are even nicer people out there than myself would would do exactly that Ramor.

Jadennyte hun, and besides the fact is, that I haven't logged into that game fore more then 2 hours in over 2 weeks. So I have never gotten a tell from you in that time. In fact I thought you quit. Stating that I have never said hi to you is completely false as well, and I honestly can't believe you said that

I've always tried to keep this game unique and fresh in my own mind, while trying not to get too carried away with "things" and by this I would assume most of you mean gear, rare/ex items, end-game stuff, etc.

The fact of the matter is that this community of gamers is changing. There is more people at higher levels that aren't content anymore with wearing a level 15 axe when leveling a level 36 job (but a surprising number of people still do). They seek the best equips for a different take on leveling whatever kind of job they want to level instead of reliving those first days of just scraping by with what we could afford. Though those days were probably still the best and the most fun imo, lets face it, they're gone. The game hasn't changed, but the people behind the screens have ever-so-slightly.

I don't call myself an elitist because I seek the best for my character. It is true that I will not touch my 46 BLM until I get the moldy earring, but, on that same vein, I will not go after the moldy earring again until I can solo the mob myself. I don't think Bismarck has gotten lazy, priorities have changed because it is basically within anyone's power (with the help of a few friends)to get almost anything they want! This was unheard of for some of us as little as a year ago.

I know this may also be another crazy idea, but maybe this is perhaps the reason why items such as the SH, sniper's rings, and the O and H kote (just to name a few) are really really rising in price. It's almost like the majority of Bismarck is saying, "Hey, that (Insert insanely expensive rare item here) doesn't seem nearly as expensive now that I'm a much higher level and make much more gil. I should try farm for one of those..." This, IMO, has always been the explaination for why the rare/ex items have skyrocketed, while other, more common equips have increased to a much lesser degree.

I should also make the point that I still highly believe in skill>items train of thought. But I don't blame anyone any more than myself for wanting to be the best (insert job here) they can be. I just get hung up on most stuff around level...20 or so :).

I will point out too, however, that much of what is to be experienced further on in this game involves getting a job to level 75 and having all the best gear.

I know I may have got a little off topic there, but its what came to mind.

Sorry for the rant.

(On a side note, I now feel that my level 51 NIN is capable of actually helping people instead of being a burden. Let me know if you can use me ^^)

Fortunately, I have been an elitist asshole from day one, and I will continue to be so as the days roll on. So at least that hasn't changed.

The term elitist is open to interpretation.

There are 2 prominant definitons, as I see them:

1. The drive to be the best you can be in everything that you do.

2. The "my shit is better than your shit, so i'm better than you and you don't know anything" attitude.

#1 takes work and dedication and is challenging.

#2 takes a credit card and a trip to IGE.

#1 takes humility, the willingness to learn, and the ability to admit when you're wrong.

#2 requires you have a stick up your ***

#1 requires you take breaks from your endless push to enjoy time with your friends, unwind, and have a few laughs

#2 people don't have any friends.

I could go on. I subscribe to the first definition. A lot of people subscribe to the second.

Which one are you?

Oh and...

Hey! How come I do that daily and yet only now it becomes trendy?

The only reason why I remain friends with him is to find new ways to bash him. /grin

OK. I wasnt going to reply to this post until I got pissed in lower jeuno this morning.

Jaden, do not look at me and sigh dejectedly. Do not treat me or act like I have become elitist. Do not think that by any means I have forgotten my friends in this game. Do not look in my bazaar and make a rude /em. If you think these things you are worse off than even I think.

The reason I don't talk with you much, and the reason I tossed your pearlsack is because EVERY single time I talked with you, you were complaining. I am sad to be the one to stand up and say it but it is true. Look at your recent posts here on Alla...all complaining about prices or about what people should or should not do. The last 15 times I logged into your LS you were constantly complaining about other people or parties you have or prices being to high. You werent the same person at all who used to play this GAME because it was fun and exciting.

While you have been complaining I advanced further in the CoP missions and got Sky and fought gods and got some god gear. You know what? Not a single person in my end game LS is nearly as horrible as you would describe the end game people to me when I first started knowing you. All you had was bad things to say about endgame events and HNM LS's. So while yopu continue to cry on about Sole Sushi or people being idiots, I am playing the game.

Ask the other people we know, and if they are true friends some of them will say the same thing.

I had something else posted here.. nothing bad or disparaging, but I came to realize something... you are right Kalos. Why play a game that I complain about, why pay for something I no longer enjoy...
