It may be just crappy luck on my part, but...has anyone else noticed a severe lack of interest in rng's as of late?

I took a vacation the week after x-mas, and since my return, I have been able to get exactly 2 parties with my rng to date. Since I only get to play at night after school or work, that averages out to be about 1 party in every 18 hours lfp now Smiley: banghead

Can anybody please explain to me wtf happened? I understand that most of the non-serious rng's were weeded out by the 'nerfs', but how did that drop in the number of rngs around translate into people thinking that those of us who are still trying to play the job are not worth pt'ing with now?

The simple fact of the matter is, far more than SE nerfed our job in itself, our reputation was nerfed to hell and back, and the worst part is, we did it to ourselves. So many RNGs abandoned the job like a sinking ship, so many ******* about the changes, made us sound weaker than we really are. I am a level 74 RNG/WAR, and I can still put out the top DoT in many my parties, however the assumption is, before I am invited at least, is that I am now a weaker DD class, subpar to a DRK or a DRG even. AFTER I get into my parties is another matter entirely. XD

Sadly, I believe it will be a long time before our reputation recovers, and I do not think we will ever see the amount of party invites that we encountered pre-nerf. I hope this answers your question.

Yeah, sadly I've seen the same lemming patterns too. Despite discussing how the changes have actually made the job more fun, not less effective (i.e. actually having to figure out optimal range for attacks), it seems people are too easily swayed by popular opinion.

>.< Oh well, guess I'll just keep lvl'ing monk for now and cry when it hits 62 and continue to get invites on a regular basis.

;;>.> Well I quite simply tend not to invite RNG because I try to make your "average" party set up of Tank, DD, DD, Refresh *****, Healer, BLM. And well as a DRG, I can't exactly SC with you so I will take the THF... or the SAM, DRK, WAR, eh pretty much anything I can make Distortion with... ;;>.> actually I have SC with a SMN before even. Well the SC unfortunately does not involve a RNG. =P Nothing against RNG, still a bad *** DD, I just can't SC with ya. And that is my reasoning.

Now why everyone else doesn't party with them it is because they are idiots. Eh, sorry but people stereotype... hell I have known that ever since I decided to be a DRG main. Just get used to waiting... well on the upside at least I can solo ~4k an hour while I wait though.

I don't think it's fair to put down those who dropped RNG after the nerf. Ammo can become expensive if you aren't HQing it yourself, and paying all that money for mediocre damage is frustrating, regardless of how much you love the job.

I realize that a lot of RNGs will say they put out the highest DoT in many of their parties, as Aluus stated. I'm one of the guys that believes that if you're paying for your damage, it should be that way in EVERY party.

For example, I was XPing on my MNK the other night in Yuhtunga Jungle. We were 5/6 and looking for another DD, and someone mentioned their friend, a RNG, just started seeking. I was hesitant because I know the hit RNGs took, but invited them anyway.

By the end of the (somewhat brief - 18 mobs) party the RNG had put up 3123 in damage, which was 17.35% of the net damage. I had put up 6026 in damage, which was 33.48% of the net damage. Now, I paid a bit for my gear, but after the party is over I can sell my gear and get it all back. The RNG can't. It isn't right that the RNG dumps several nonrefundable thousands of gil into ammo and puts up HALF of what other melees are putting up. Maybe this RNG is a subpar representation of the RNG population, but would a more skilled RNG have put up twice as much damage? Who knows...?

Pre-nerf, a geared out MNK could outdamage a RNG with some work. From what I've parsed post-nerf, a completely geared out RNG has to bust his or her *** to keep up with or outdamage melees. Is this fair? A geared out and skilled MNK will outdamage a geared out and skilled RNG these days, even if he engages and goes to get a drink. The RNG can't do that.

RNG can put up great damage when they work hard, and so can DRG. I have great respect for all classes if they work hard. The problem is that parties sometimes aren't willing to take a risk and invite someone they don't know is hard-working. If they invite a DRG, he had better be one hard-working DRG to earn his keep, while if they invite a MNK or WAR/NIN or something of the like, maybe they don't have to work as hard. The same applies to RNG.

In your case Aluus I agree. You put out crazy insane damage that really isn't topped by much else besides some crazy merited obi wearing BLM.

But I will say this...what good does RNG/WAR with 2000+ slug shots do you if you can't take a few hits. I see more RNG/WAR die than any other job. RNG/NIN for most applications, and RNG/WAR when you want everyone to feel like they can't damage for crap...and when you have a big buffer^^

Yeah RNG is the new DRG.....We can still do great damage but the stereotype is that ranger is broken/nerfed/worthless whatever. To be honest, playing ranger isn't as fun to play as it was pre nerf but it still is my favorite job. Which makes me so sad when i do:

I didn't start RNG til after the "nerf" and I'm glad... I always thought it was stupid to be firing arrows pointblank anyways.... after all it's RANGEr.

Once I hit 75 in RDM, I bounced from job to job looking for my next main and when I finally tried RNG I fell in love... this job kicks *** and I think the damage output is still great, evidenced by the fact that I can tear hate from the tank almost at will (pre lv40 anyways)... I've found myself counting to 10 between shots in some parties.

As for LFG... THAT I've noticed... I never met a job I didn't like to party with... every job has it's strengths and weaknesses for a reason. Some jobs work better in different situations (we all know this) and RNG still has it's place, but seriously why RNG's all of a sudden are considered gimp/useless is beyond me.

Give me a squishie mob (read crawlers/bats/anything without a shell) and I'm good for some solid pwnage.

<3 thy RNG

get used to that stereotype. we drgs have had to put up with it for a long time now. you rangers are just getting into it honestly. like the OP said, waiting weeks between pt invites is the norm for those of us DDs that got hit with the "gimp" stick either directly or indirectly.

honestly, the only way i've found around that stereotype as a DRG is to exp with as many people as i can to show them that calling me "gimp" is like calling a monk's chi blast weak, or a blm weak. i can still put out an ton of damage and be top DD in the PT fairly easy. people just wont' change their minds on their own, they follow the crowd too much. you have to change their minds about your job by showing just how damn good you are.

honestly, my opinion of rangers was rapidly dropping as i pted wtih them more and more watching them miss WSs all the time and have 20-30k less overall dmg than me at the end of an exp pt at any camp. then i exped with a ranger in my LS named Iorthani. he's one hell of a good ranger, he matched me dmg for dmg and at the end of the pt, we were roughly 500 points of dmg apart (counting a fight where i got myself killed so my dmg was much lower than it would have been had i been in the fight the whole time. we were camped @ ulli and were competing for mobs with another pt, i claimed, pld had to run across the room but i died before he got it off of me so i missed the whole fight)

I know. Ain't it kewl?

As for my taking a few hits, in an exp party , with a GOOD tank I can go without taking a hit til the WS. I take a few hits after that, but most times the mob is dead shortly after anyway so its not much of a threat. I tried my favorite food, Red Curry, in Lufaise meadows tonight. Slug Shoted a big bird for 1.7k (had bard for minuet and I was zerked.) It got one hit in on me before I killed it with barrage. Started next fight with full TP.
