hey guys, sup?

ok guys, i need help. seroius help. heres my prob.

ok, i'm a ps2 player. and i heard that this game is 834763476387366733x better on pc. so...yesterday i went out got the pc version. i get home, i litterlly rip open the box, turn on my pc, pop the disc in my disc drive, and install everything. after i install everything... it says i need to go an update for playonline. so i'm like "alright, how hard can this be?" I click "next" and it says "Checking Playonline viewer..." do do do, like maybe 3 mins after, it says these mystic words:

"Cannot connect to server."

and i'm like WTF! i get so pissed i turn off my pc and walk away from my pc. I talked to my dad he says it may be a firewall prob. but i have a feeling that'll he'll never do it. i have norton internet sercerity and antivirus up. and when i try to mess around with it it says, "You do not have the privilages to do that action."

anyone know what i can do to make playonline work for my pc? HELP! please...

PS: this happens to my other games too that try to get on the internet.

Well it does sound like a firewall problem but it may also be your router. I never had problems connecting but I know of people who needed to change some router settings.

Aside from that, you arent using windower to try and update are you? That can sometimes cause problems updating your software from Playonline.

My advice, limited as it may be, would be to get your father to configure the firewall so that the neccesary programs can access the internet. It sounds like he probably has restrictions on all outbound traffic not attached to internet explorer. That would explain why none of your online games can get online. All he would need to do is to click a few boxes allowing your game programs to connect to the internet. Hope this helps.

The new nortons have built in firewalls that are lucky they don't block the internet itself (norton is the single most paranoid antivirus I have ever used). Somewhere in the config you can turn the firewall off. Do that. There is also a Windows Firewall that won't pose a problem unless you're working with a router. If you are:

Start -> Right click My Network Places -> Properties.

Window opens that should have Local Area Connection in there. Right click that, then Properties. Click the Advanced Tab. If the Firewall box in there is checked, uncheck it and try that.

If you still have problems, somewhere on playonline.com you can find the Ports this game uses, and you can set your router to always allow them.

If you're not working with a router, it's likely Norton's fault. Can you disable it completely to try to run the game?

i guarantee your problem is norton. i had the same problem when i first got the game on PC 3 or 4 years ago so i deleted norton and got a different virus protection program and it works fine. i use AVG free. norton sucks IMO
