/tell with a url to a virusFollow

Just a heads up note.

Last night I and many others got a tell from an anon player with a link to a geocities page containing a zip file. We reported this to the GMs, and I went and looked at the files in the zip with my mac.
I ran the file through virustotal, and it is trojan downloader. I assume it will attempt to steal your credentials.

I can confirm this. I was in Whitegate last night while all the shouts were going on regarding this person (or someone with the same purpose). Name was Kungatunga, or something to that effect, and he seemed to be targeting folks of higher rank. I was on Elijah (rank 5), I got no /tell's. GM's were called and he disappeared ... banned, I assume and very much hope, but that does not mean he won't be back, or others like him.

Please be careful what websites you visit if you play this game on PC. The same deceptive tactics we have witnessed here on Alla are now being used in-game.

Unfortunately, the web page is still up. I notified geocities, but who knows if/when they'll do anything.

Yahoo is very stern when it comes to their ToS. Geocities is owned by Yahoo and including viruses in your webpages is definitely forbidden. But, they are a very large service and likely have massive amounts of complaints to sift through everyday. It may take some time. I suggest that anyone who knows the URL (please do not post it here >.>) repeatedly file complaints. The more complaints that are received, the more seriously Yahoo will take the matter.

I've had to deal with Yahoo before ... when my own website (no longer existent) was being infringed upon (copyright infringement) a few years ago using Geocities. They did delete the offending site, but it took them some time.

Yahoo removed the site today. Interesting to me that the scammers would use Friday night to try and spread their exploit.

Yahoo obviously moves a lot faster when there is a bug involved, than they do when it's copyright infringement. It took them several months to remove the site that was stealing from mine. :/

Very happy to hear the site has been removed! ^^
