A Template: Put your linkshell on the Wiki!Follow

#1 Oct 10 2007 at 9:07 PM Rating: Excellent
Hello all,

This is a guide/template designed to help you post your linkshell in the new Wiki Linkshell Directory. Use this directory to let others know about your linkshell, to advertise recruitment drives or just to have fun.

To get your linkshell on the Wiki, follow these simple steps:

1) Copy this tag (and make sure you copy everything, including the asterick and all the punctuation marks): *'''NAMEHERE'''

2) In a new browser window, open your server’s linkshell directory page by selecting your server from the list on this page: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/wiki/Linkshell_Directory

3) Once your server’s page loads, click on the word "edit" in the bar near the top of the screen.

NOTE: IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY DELETE IMPORTANT INFORMATION WHILE TRYING TO COMPLETE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS, DO NOT SAVE CHANGES. SIMPLY CLOSE YOUR BROWSER WINDOW AND START OVER AGAIN.

4) Paste the tag that you copied in Step 1 directly under whichever heading best describes your linkshell. If other linkshells are already under that heading, just paste your tag on the bottom of the list.

Once you have pasted the tag, highlight just the name of your linkshell inside the punctuation marks and click on "wiki link" above the editable text box.

5) Inside your tag, write your linkshell name over the "NAMEHERE" text. Do not delete or overwrite any of the punctuation.

6) Click the "Save Changes" button below the editable text box.

7) Now, still in your other window, return to your server‘s linkshell directory. (The full server list is at http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/wiki/Linkshell_Directory )

8) On your server’s directory page, your linkshell name will now be displayed on the page in red text. Click on your linkshell name. This brings up a blank, editable Wiki page.

9) Now, in this window, COPY EVERYTHING ON THIS PAGE BETWEEN THE TWO LINES OF ASTERISKS.

10) Go back to your other window and PASTE what you copied in Step 9 into the editable Wiki page.

11) Now, simply replace any text in capital letters with information from your linkshell. DO NOT DELETE ANY PUNCTUATION FROM TAGS OR HEADINGS. However, you may freely use normal punctuation in the body of your text. To add more headings, simply copy/paste other headings, and change the text.

12) When you're finished, click the "Save Changes" button below the text box.

That's it! Your linkshell is now on the Wiki.

If this guide helps, then I'll make another one soon describing how to post pictures on your linkshell site. For an example, check out my linkshell's page: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/wiki/Imperial

Just an observation to those having trouble getting it to work properly.
I used 2 brackets on each side instead of the quotes in *'''NAMEHERE'''

Yeah, that's what I had to correct in step 4.

Basically, you need to put two sets of brackets inside the quotation marks. The quotations make your linkshell name bold, and the brackets are what makes it a Wiki link. Highlighting just your ls name and clicking the "wiki link" button puts the brackets on for you.

The reason the mistake happened is because the brackets don't show up when used properly in a tag... so when I posted the guide, the brackets became invisible. Strange, huh?
