do u think a party could survive without any type of mage in it?
cause someone i know..cough..swilly..said it could and whm are only good for tele's...it just irked me

Sure they could "Survive" but if they wanted to actually get experience off something more than decent challenge? They'd either need to be really low level, or spend an *extreme* ammount of gil on healing potions.

without ANY mages? no... I doubt they could. Unless they were all war's and took turns provoking in a circle to manage HP and damage evenly... then maybe. However, a party can survive without a whm... yes. I was in a party where the only MP came from myself (42 blm) and another 42 blm. We both had whm subbed. He had more INT and I have my MND gear, so I played healer. We chained and exp'd greatly... better than we did in Gustav Tunnel even. Hehe, but thats cause we were in Labyrinth of Onzozo working gobs instead of the overpacked Gustav Tunnel.
Maybe a party with a Nin, Pal, bard, and some fillers if nothing went wrong. It'd wouldn't be that good of a party but it could work.
Mages' roles are to help things run smoothly. Rdms debuff (and removes mob buffs and regen later), blms make things die quicker, and whms buff and heal (and later remove debuffs from party members). Yes, there is a lot of cross over between those roles (especially with subs) but those are the main roles.
I can just see a pre-75 (pre-50 after the expansion) non-mage party shouting for raises a lot...

NIN/WAR's, THF/NIN's, PLD/WAR.
But then, SMN does have "mage" in it, so SMN+BRD+Rest could work

Here is a party setup that would not require a Mage... NIN/WAR or PLD/WAR, WAR/NIN, RNG, RNG, RNG, BRD/WHM.
