This Thread is specifically for my friends, so that when I tell them that I'm leaving I can give a web adress instead of having to repeat the story 100 times ;) Consider it a "Why leave FFXI?" FAQ.

/rant on

Most of you who know me, know that I am obsessive compulisve when it comes to having the best gear. As a level 55 Thief this means a lotta gil. I'm getting to the point where I need that extra switch marco set for Dex gear and Acc gear, not to mention that these will all be +1 or the equvalent. As Thf/rng this dillema is compounded by the fact that I don't play a very popular sub-job class, meaning that to get a group in the post 60's I have to be wearing the aboslute best that I can wear. That in terms of gil costs about 14 million for all the total gear costs to level 60 not including arrows.

Let me stop a second and say something so as not to discourage anyone trying to save up gil. It is entirely possible to make 14 million or more I suspect. It takes hard work and patience, but if you feel it is worth the effort then you really are rewarding ourself. One of the best moments in the game for me was when I had finnally earned 700k at level 45, after 2 weeks off and on farming, for a Brigandine +1 and then the 2 weeks later it took for the price to go back down;) I am the type who can wait forever to earn another <x> gil. I hunt chests and coffers, I craft, I farm, I am a gil making machine and know half the prices on the AH by heart.

Yet in spite of all of this I cannot produce enough gil to outpace inflation. One of my bigger costs, the Peacock Chram, I could merely camp. Problem is that I work full-time, its a matter of time spent camping vs earning the gil for it and either way I look at it I just don't have the time or months. I suppose I sound like someone who whines about the good old days when Sniper's Rings and Emporer's Hairpin's were 200k. Inflation happens, blame the botters, blame the gil sellers, blame nature, blame your grandma it will happen. What bothers me isn't that it happens, its that there is no cap imposed to keep things from getting out of hand. We gain gil arethmatically, generally the prices on the more lucrative items rise exponentiontially. So if I, for example, make about 30k gil an hour, the price on say Sprint Shoes can go from 100k to 200k to 400 and so on assuming that its a ince a week drop, meaning competition is eliminated. This is a bit of a hyperbola, nearly all items in game will be in a competative market. However, those items which everyone wants seem to be in the least competative markets (from the standpoint of the AH not actually camping an NM ect.). The problem is multiplied when you consider that the server populations are still rising, meaning more demand but still a fixed number of Sprint Shoes, 1 per week.

The economic impossiblity of achiveing my goals being realized I asked myself if I could get by with just semi-good gear. I could, one of the things I like about our server is that I know a good deal of fair minded people who are more than willing to recognize talent when they see it and discern the unskilled as well. I could even just do what everyone else does and take up a /nin sub for which my gear would be more than sufficent.

However, the thought occured to me that even if I found a way around the inflation barrier, or took myself up to level 75 with a /nin sub what would I really gain? When you farm and craft and wait for coffers to respawn as much as I do you get to thinking. I've missed out on so many opportunites to level or EF or Ballista, or help with whatever becuase I was too busy at the gil grind. There is nothing I regret more and not becuase most of the friends I leveled with are now at level 70 while I sit at 55, its because they were friends. Making gil is a necissary end to being a benefit to any party you join, ie: Gil = Gear = base potential irregardless of skill, just that simple. But a game is also supposed to be fun. I don't think I would have stayed in this game as long as I have if it weren't for all the laughter I've shared talking to my LS's while I was in the Carpenter's guild making, synth after synth. There is a certain line between too much and too little and I erred on the side of too much and for that I have missed more comradare than I can bear to think of.

I should have been a PLD or a WHM. I like helping others and in the endgame there is so much more availible for them to do. Thief on the other hand is horrible in an alliance setting. For some reason I've seen even the most skilled players forget that SATA exists when they get into an alliance situation, or maybe not even that maybe they just are hoping someone else in the larger group can do it. Its an issue I can't get around Thief just are not good at helping others as much as any of the other job classes. Not a bad thing, we can solo some things that others only dream of, and it is an enjoyable job I find due to the high skill content involved, its just that I finnally realized that no matter how high a level I get or how good my gear is its for nothing if I am not loved for helping others.

I think an issue that most people miss is that when we start the game we all assume that each job will be equally as benefical to each other as every other job. We also assume that while there are some sub jobs that should not be played there are some that are equal to each other and should chose which one best suits your particular style, which one you have the most fun with. What gets me is that we become so locked into the "best" way to do things that way forget to experiment. I'm not saying that everyone immeadiatly go out and try drg/bst there's no justification for it. However there are certain job combos out there that in practice might be good its just that it takes explaining to a group how you work. Every Thief who has leveled past 15 should know exactly what I mean. In order for SA to work and again SATA at level 30 you have to repeat to every group you join what it is (Sneak Attack/Trick Attack) generally by level 40 people are comfortable with it. What I'm getting at is this: no one ever seems to use Drg/whm as a main job. The reason I use Drg/whm as an example is because there is some precident for it. The Drg AF helm is more benefical to a /whm sub, there's a Spear speciffically designed with + healing that only drg can equip, (which by the way is only one of maybe 5 items in the game like that) and more to the point Healing Breath actually exists instead of just a normal elemental breath. Someone went out of thier way to try and make this combo vaible. "If God had wanted men to fly he would have given him wings" in this case Square gave Dragoons healing breath.

So why don't we see drg/whm? Well its my fault actually. Most of the time Thief needs someone with a War sub to be the "Opening Voker" so that SATA can be set up onto a tank with little hassle. Most of us have learned one way to do things and we are damn good at it too. This website would not exist if the overwhelming majority of people didn't need any adivse. We learn the most popular way to conduct a battle, we learn its varriations (Pld vs Nin tanks for example), and we take pride in that group dynamic. Rare subs like Drg/whm have no place because the difference between it and a /war sub is just too drastic. Rare subs just don't survive because no one knows how to react to them. It isn't a fault in the person, its not a fault in the group, it is merely that when we take pride in a way of doing things we are more comfortable with it and want to wage our battles according to what we know works. However the assumption we start the game with about jobs and sub-jobs is inherently deceptive. While the varriation is broad and allows for multiple play styles only a handful can make it to the endgame. So in a sense this great variety doesn't exist. The honest labeling of jobs in game we all know, Tank, Puller, Damage Dealer, Healer, Refresh ***** er... Buffer/Debuffer. So while some of us can play and get to the end of the game happily, we few sorry souls who get to level 60 as something other than what are regarded as the best job combo have the option to straighten up and fly right or quit.

The tragedy is that there are probably a damn good amount of good job combos out that that will never be played for long in the game because no one offers a supportive word, no one has written a guide, no one ever gets to that point. In the the end as a Thf/Rng I find myself torn between changing to a /nin sub, which I find not as intricate, not as challengeing, and starting up a new job. Or I could save more gil than I know how to earn and contiune to watch my friends have fun without me. Odd isn't it? I like my job class therefore I must quit it.

To summize, becuse I, like everyone else, take pride in doing things a certain way which leads to the fact that I am prejudged as inferior to a /nin sub and cannot hope to find a party unless I earn impressive gear so that I can advertise that gear as a reason for an invite. However due to the economic constraints this would be an unbearbly slow process and I would simply miss the comany of my friends. Its not anyone's particular fault. I completely understand how much having the right party can influence the quality of the game. As things are I am irrevokeably led to the conclusion that Final Fantasy 11 is not the game for me.

The Win Cania's Money Contest Part! :D

I will be giving out Linkpearls to some close friends of mine so that they can participate in these contests and know when exactly they're gonna start.

Instead of splitting the gil evenly between all of you guys I decided it would be a lot more fun to have 3 contests with a ONE MILLION GIL Prize on each of them. I want you to earn it like I did >:) So here they are in the order I'd like to do them in. I will be trying to accomidate everyone's scheduals and I need to sell off all my stuff so as of yet I have no date for these. I think I'll post the date on the Farewell Linkshell at this point.

CONTEST #1: Think like a Thief!

Also known as the "Find the Mule in a Haystack" contest. I will be walking my mule up to a certain place using sneak oils and prisim powders. This contest is designed not only to test your knowledege of Vana'deil, it also tests how well you know me. To win this contest all you have to do is find the mule and trade him 1 gil at which point I'll be trading 1 million back :D The starting point will be in Jeuno and although I cannot enforce it, no Warp or Tele-Craging to be fair to your competition.

Also due to the fact that I will be hiding this mule very well, and that Vana'deil is really freaking big when you enter the zone that the mule is in you will get a party invite.

I cannot stress enough how much you will need Sneak Oil and Prism Powder if you lack the coresponding spells. If you don't like it tough, you can make your own rules when you give away a million gil ;) Here is the one clue I'll give on the mule's location:

What do Thieves do?

CONTEST #2: Catch a Thief!

Whereas the last contest tested geography this one tests topography. I will be starting this contest by riding off on a Chocobo from Jeuno. After 5 minutes the contestants (that's you guys with the linkshell) will ride off on thier own chochobos from your pick of San 'd Oria, Bastok or Windurst. I will contimue to ride till the bird throws me off. The first person to trade me 1 gil after I'm off the bird wins the prize!

CONTEST #3: Steal like a Thief!

This is a scavenger hunt of sorts. You can start anywhere you like. At the start of this contest I will give a list of items that I want people to find for me. When you find that item or items come and trade them to me to win the last prize :D
By the way... hope you kept some of that Prism Powder and Silent Oil, you're gonna need it to get to me.

You have now been warned. If you die I'll cry, but I won't give you pity gil. G'Luck to all of you! (Except those losers who don't win duh!)

Cool idea, but just curious, will your character also be on the LS with your friends? Do they know the name of the mule? If so then all they have to is check the LS list or /sea you to narrow down your area.

And once they are in your PT they can track you via the map.

Good luck to your friends!

Cania...why did I expect something like this from you? Probably because you're one of the most unique (in a good way) people I've ever met. Anyways, I'll be there for your games, not to necessarily win the gil(since I don't really need it) but because I want to show my apprecation for your friendship while you've been here. Tomorrow is my last day here before vacation, hopefully I'll get to see you after I get back, if not...send me a PM and I'll give you my email or something. Best of luck to you in the future with school and luck; you will be missed.

I just got done making an account here so I could specifically respond to your post.

I think your idea might be the coolest idea I've ever heard from someone that's leaving the game. Not only did you put (it seems like) your heart and soul into the game . . . but you're leaving and rewarding others in a fun way. You came in with a certain mindset and worked hard . . . and you're only making others do the same thing to earn a WHOLE heck of a lot of gil.

I'm just a lowly Black Mage, level 34. I just got done doing my 3-3 Mission where I was in Delkfutt Tower forever using prism powders and silent oils. It gave me a great sense of adventure. And I really do applaud that you're giving people the opportunity of a (corny I know) Vana'Dial lifetime with your three events. Even though I didn't know you at all, good luck with everything!

Wow. Typo never expected Cania taru be next on the Adventurer Retirement List.. I not sure what to say. We never spent that much time together, but through all our experiences and memories from back in the day in WSF, The Order, and more recentaruly CM, I feel as if I'm losing a life-long friend after reading this announcement. We must keep in contact - maybe you could visit me journal every now and then ?:3

Typo can relate to much of what you've said, especially since I have also always been hell-bentaru on acquiring those exceptionally worthy (and equally expensive) items, even if it took me a whole month of fishing to do so! At least we share one common trait, keke.

Too true. Ish such a double-edged sword when you really look at it: you can devote yourself to the ones who mean the most to you, stunting your own progress, or spend time toiling for much needed gil and isolate yourself from others. It seems that one really can't divide time between gilmaking and anything else. You need taru pour your very soul into that gilgrind. It actually got so bad with Typo that I now don't even have a linkyshell to consider me "main". I pretty much just drift from people to people nowadays. It has become habitual. "._.,

Like you, Typo wants to help people, but in my case I want it not to be painful. Although BLM has its place in alliances and ish basically a necessity for HNM, I've never felt particularly "powerful" or even useful in those robes since becoming level 70. BLM still plays too much of a supporting DD role at this level, in that most of the time I need a tank with me taru sustain hits so that I can actually operate. It goes far beyond that, but BLM alongside most other jobs ish so delicate and dependant on others that it's hard to even imagine myself continuing right up taru 75. Bleh.

One of me main reasons for abruptaruly taking on the challenge of BST surrounds making myself useful to friends in the higher levels. Not so much with HNM, but with quests, missions, AF, genkai, etc., without stressing myself too much. There ish one of those fine lines I'm trying to walk along to keep myself interested in being a Vana'diel Adventurer.

Anyway, I not mean to steal your rant/spotlight with a big long boring journalesque post, but reading your message just demanded that Typo bring it all to the forefront. Ja I will see you again before you go, but I'll still say here that this self-proclaimed, larger-than-life -but humble- little taru will miss his silly Canianoncat.

Oh okie, Caniacat. Or cattaru, I dunno. ":3

I heard word of this on Typo's tactically energetic site. Lots of doom and gloom in the game this past month (I know I've felt my share of it. I recently got out of an "I'm going to quit" rut, and it wasnt my first.) The collpase of CM seems to have hit a lot of people pretty hard, and to see a free spirit like Typo depressed you know somethings not right in the world. Very sad to see you go, but at least you're making quite a spectacular series of events out of it!

I'll be out of town again this week, so chances are I'll miss this series of events. I don't really need the gil as much as some of our <former> LS comrades may (I am an obsessive farmer like yourself, and as a monk I am blessed with near infinite downtime between party invites ^^) but it would be a blast to participate.

Game 1 sounds extra fun. I am assuming this will be a new secret mule that you will sneak cross country and go annonymous on. Then set us loose to check all your old haunts. No name or anything given out would be nasty ^^. The hard work will be for you, if you are planning on sneaking a new L1 mule all the way into upper tower in qufim or past the 3rd banishing gate ^^

Game 2 is a classic... a pitty Marlek quit the game a few months back.. this would have been right up his alley. For an 800 pound galka he sure made a good chocobo jockey ^^

Game 3 also sounds good ^^ Hopefully there are some common drop ex/rare things to keep it from beeing a race to the AH. A chance for true evil on your part ^^

If I'm not around for it I hope it works out well for all involved, and hopefully not too many deaths. And again, so sad to hear you go... And hopefully I wont miss your last day online.

Yeah don't worry Thornn I don't think you'll miss anything. There are a lot of people out this week visiting family which I anticipated so the earliest I could do this would be on the weekend after Thanksgiving, but I'm not certain everyone will be back by then.

As to the 3rd Contest I'm not certain that rare/ex or even ex can be traded which would be my the only proof I had that you had the item. But fear not, I'm probably gonna go with items that are not usually on the AH due to crappiness or rairty or both.

On another note I'd like to thank everyone that have sent me messages and let me know that I'll be missed. I guess you never know how loved you are until you head off into the sunset :)

Okay I've finnally reached the 3 million mark and it looks like I'll end up with 4.7 Million gil when all my auctions close. I think I've given pearls out to everyone, please if you feel I've missed you gimmie a ring, I have holes in my memory large enough to drive trucks through.

That being said I'm planning on the first contest for November 27th at 2pm PST. If you cannot make it post it on this thread, I expect to be playing WoW most of the time between now and then. If enough people cannot make it I'll postpone, though I'd rather have my content ID's closed before I have to put up another bill ;)

Also for those of you going over to the WoW boat gimmie a ring. I'm Durin on Kil'Jaeden Dwarven Paladin extrodinare :D

Well, I was thinking of a road trip this weekend but I called it off (This isn't the only reason, but I sure would hate to miss "Cania's X-treme Sendoff" AKA "Who wants to be a gilionaire" contest.^^ )

So I bumped the road trip back till early december. And I plan on being back in town and back on FFXI thursday night. Your little game has got me all paranoid about maps I am missing. Thursday night is going to be "Complete map collection" night.

On another note:
I also heard mention of people who are questioning their participation in these on reasons of guilt... Understandable, but Cania is putting a lot of effort into this sendoff, and it is shaping up to be a fun and positive event. The more the merrier.

Anyhow, I don't see the prizes in this as "dirty money"... Cania worked very hard for it, but sadly is moving on and no longer has a need for it. Option A) was to sell it to China. Option B) was to give it away on a whim. But Cania chose (invented) option C) Work hard for it! Lol And promise to invest it wisely.

The funny thing is a few (most?) of the people contacted in this contest have been "on the ropes" about the game lately. Lots of doom and gloom going around and talk of "maybe I should quit too" but this little contest may be a sort of rememdy. These contests should re-invigorate that sense of adventure (something CoP should have done) and honestly... a 1 million gil cash transfusion may be the turning point for some of you.

Cania wasn't the only one who hit the barrier where you are doing ok, but for just another million gil you can reach the ideal you are stiving for (or take a morale boosting first step towards it). It takes 1-2 months of hard work to scrape up that kind of cash, at the expense of leveling, quests, and most of all fun. A sense of hopelessness hits you and that can leave you in a rut. So heres a chance to shake that feeling and maybe give you a chance to get back to playing the game.

Personally I missed my chance to grab an amemit mantle +1 when they were affordable and they have since soared to 950k this past month. Spectacles too have slipped out of my price range and are continuing to rise. Likewise with leaping boots, which I wanted to use to take my thf sub through the 20's and up to 36. Fortunately these are only "want" not "need" items, but I sure feel bad for the struggling drk and drg out there facing the cost of a pair of sniper rings (or the consequences of going without them based on some horror stories I've heard).

Hey Cania, get your *** back in game. :D I brought Warf back, I cant afford to start WoW right now (59.99, and the wedding is more important, but I do have a bit MMO hole), so come on back and just play for fun with me. We'll see if I get caught up in it again, but I'm much more reserved with the game this time around.

If you choose to stay gone, you will be missed. I hope you choose WoW, and if so you need to let me know so we can be on the same server.

Anyways, Hito told me about this thread lastnight, so just lemme know I'll be around. I'll PM you my email address.

Okay Contest 1 is done! :D The answer to the clue was Fei'Yin. Why you may ask? What do Thieves do? 1. Hunt Treasure chests, 2. Strike from the Shadow and/or hide in them. Treasure Chests + Shadows = Fei'Yin. And for those wonering why I sent a party invite to anyone who entered the zone the answer is simple. There is a Strange Apparatus in Fei'Yin, the Strange Apparatus room is invisible to anyone on the map not in it >:) (Who's a sneaky Thief)! So in order to prevent people from walking by or spending hours in Oztroja (Glorfindel, Thornn, Typo, Hitokirin!) I thought I'd save us all some trouble. So a big round of Congratulations to Sarevok for winning the first 1 million gil prize, it will go greatfully into his "Scorpion Harness Fund" (feel free to donate). Kudos also to Kristof for actually competing and Jochi for also making a beeline to Fei'Yin.

As for the second and 3rd contests I'll be starting them at 4pm PST feel free to join in at any time. I've decided to get out of the game before my monthly charge comes up so it'll have to be this weekend ;)

Hey Warf! I've sent back your Archer's Knife and the gil you gave me that way you can come back into the game close to where you left off :) As for WoW dear God what can I say about these few days since Tuesday that I've been on? **** hasn't made me wanna have sex with my computer this bad! Its like they took everything I wanted FFXI to be and made it into that and then added some more stuff for fun. So yeah I'll be on WoW for a while Warf :) Somewhere I got the idea in my head that playing as a Pld would be fun ;) so if you wanna look me up:

It isn't a fault in the person, its not a fault in the group, it is merely that when we take pride in a way of doing things we are more comfortable with it and want to wage our battles according to what we know works.

the main part is, that healing breath will only be DONE by a wyvern (meanin if the following things are NOT in effect, then theres no breath attack at all) if someone's hp is (if sub is Blm Whm or Rdm) 1/3'd, or (if sub is Pld, DRK, NIN, BST, or Brd) then the chance of healing breath being used is only if someone's hp in the pt is at 1/5th, and the odds of getting ur ws off and having healing breath work before this person dies of another blow, is VERY low unless u have very high hp, and almost all the pt's i get now, im in skillchains with the thf, and tp usually comes faster to me, so the skillchain is on their clock, when they're
ready to use their ws for the sc, we go, we dont have time to wait until someone's hp is low enough for healing breath to kick in. Has nothing to do with anything stereotypical, but its a hell of a lot more convienient.

/em points at the Dragoon threads around the time that Penta-Thrust was Nerfed

I don't want to even begin to list all the discussion that was made about the pros and cons of drg/mage at a time when Dragoons where trying to reidentify themselves, that's not what this thread is about. And being a Dragoon friendly thief I can tell you, that yes I understand what you're taliking about with tp gain. What irks me about the game is that anyone who tries to do things outside of a normal strategy are invarriably frowned upon, when in fact the Job/sub-job system is seemingly desgned to support a variety of play styles. We never take the time however to experiment becuase we're too busy at the exp grind. This is understandable, no one wants to lose out on those heafty Chain 5's and 6's that a well orgainzed party who is familiar with each other's strategy can generate.

Case in point, one of the reasons I used drg/whm as an example is because there are still quite a few Dragoons and ex-Dragoons out there who remeber Penta-Spam. While it wasn't the best every damage dealing strategy in a party it still did put numbers up and was considered "the way" for a Dragoon to get the job done. What happened when it was taken away? The inital reaction was huge complaints that the class was now useless even though many higher level Dragoons pointed out the fact that the biggest detriment to the class was the ineffectiveness of Wheeling Thrust and Polearms vs Bones, Crabs and the like.

Its not really a matter of did the chicken or the egg come first, or in this case did Dragoons complain about the class and not get parties, or did parties not want Dragoons and therefore they complained. Fact is that at the time it became much harder on Dragoons to get any party at all. This is significant because even though Drg/war was considered quite a decent class it never got the Glamour nor the credit for the big numbers that Penta-spam made. In comparision to a Drk/war however most people went for drk because they knew what they could do.

However time went by, those that stuck with drg most invarriably went Drg/war. It makes the most sense, similar gear setups to drg/sam similar base stats ect. Today what we see are Dragoons who learned from the Drg/wars or learned on thier own how to function well in a party. Good for them, they deserve a round of applause for being able to stick with the job they loved when no one else did. There was a lot of doom and gloom about Dragoons. Most threads calling for changes to the class that boiled down to allowing Dragoons to hit like Drk only keep Drg accuracy. The changes that were made though were the ones that were truly needed Re-tooling Wheeling Thrust and modifying Polearm damage vs Bone, Crab, ect slightly. But even before these changes were instituted Dragoons were steadily regaining the respect they had lost.

This came about because those that did stick with the job were contstantly having to prove themselves in order to get a party. They had to showcase what the job was still cabable of, and proved it time and time again. Some were not that good, but as time went by parties met more than one Dragoon and sure enough those few that consistently got reinvited changed the minds of enough people to take Dragoon back to a top notch damage dealing class instead of being at the bottom of the pecking order.

Drg/war made it known what they could do in parties, eventually people were able to adjust and take Dragoons into thier plans of battle strategy. The good news is that because there were already some decent Drg/wars before the Nerf this process was sped up despite the crys that Drg was forever to be useless. Also at the time there was a lot of talk about drg/mage being a way out of the "looking for group" doldrums. Why did this never take off while Drg/war did? Because the strategy invloved with drg/war had already been developed tried, tested, and been proven good. Drg/rdm, drg/whm were all thoeretical ideas that involved vastly different expectations from groups. It may or may not be effective but the fact of the matter is that if a party doesn't know what to do with you, you are generally not going to get a party. Such as what happened after the Penta-nerf, loss of common knowlege about what Dragoons were capable of generated a negative view of the job class until parties became refamiliar with what they could do.

This is the fatal flaw in the game for me. What happened to the Dragoons was a forced shift in strategey in order to get party invites. What happens to everyone is that they learn quickly what works best for them. Normally you won't see something like drk/bst because it is inefficent. However if you do find a certain job combo that isn't typically done or you simply happen to be much better at it than another combo, there comes a time when you will have to give it up. The reason is becuase no one will know what to do with you. Its not about what I know works well, or even suspect works. Its about what everyone else on the server thinks, and there simply is no way to explain to every single person on the server why I chose my job combo and how it works. They and I simply don't have the patience for it.

Well, Cania...you're gone as of just a few minutes ago. I loved the dramatic ending to your career, although we thought you might have dced. It was great knowing you, you were by far one of my best friends in the game although we sort of lost touch with the level grind, me joining HNM LS's and not spending as much time on CM, etc. But, it was an honor to know you, as far as I can tell, you're a one of a kind person and I wish you luck in the future. This isn't an offical goodbye though, I'm sure I'll see you on the boards and maybe.....just maybe you might pull a Warf :p

That "cania dives into the cradle of rebirth" part was pretty dramatic lol. Best sunrise in FFXI followed by fireworks and you rejoining the planets lifestream... lol

Pitty The climb up nearly gave me a nervous breakdown... If I had been in happy fun adventure state of mind, I would have loved to wander around and find my way up there at a leisurely pace and would have done it in half the time^^ But this was "fist person to the top gets 1 mil!" and it was a frustrating and clumsy attempt.

But in the end.. what a sendoff... If you ever plan on wandering back to FFXI (just like Warf!) I'll happily refund the prize money ^^. But in the meantime I'll wear it proudly in the form of a shiny new amemit mantle +1 ^^

So thanks again for the most action packed weekend in FF history. Again, good luck with your Dwarf over on the other side ^^ And oneday I may join you in WoW (Well, join may be a bad choice of words... you're a dwarf, and the angry skeleton warlock on the flaming horse had caught my attention in terms of career choice^^) But maybe we could meet up after I destoryed your village or something ^^

Cania,
I hate goodbyes, but I wanted you to know I was glad to have met you, except for Glorfindel (who is my irl friend) you were my first friend in this game. I'll never forget the parties we had together in Tahrongi Canyon and the Maze back when we were both Noobs. Then I take like a month brake come back and your level 50 ><. It was truly an honor to have gotten to know you. Someday I will go to that mountain and see the sunrise. Thanks for everything, and letting me join your money contest. Cong tab enter to Sarevok, Glorfindel, and Thornn on winning. Cania farewell my friend you will always have a spot in my friend list.
Take care

Actually, let me take something I said back and please do not take this the wrong way. Do not come back Cania. Why? Your exit from the game was truly fantastic. Your ending doesn't leave room for a sequel... doesn't leave room for the return of Cania. If you ever came back you'd have to: a. play for ever or b. top your exit from last night. I say it would be impossible to top it, so don't come back unless you want to play for the rest of your life :P

I think out of all the friends I've lost while playing the game, this loss was the most emotional for me, probably because it's the only one I actually got to say goodbye. Last night, after you just disappeared from the screen, all I wanted to do was cry. Saying goodbye is hard. Really hard.

But aside from all the sadness involved in this event, I can say I am happy for you, Cania. You did what you wanted to do in FFXI (I think...), you knew exactly where you were going afterwards, and instead of just getting up and leaving, you let us create one last memory with you, and planned it perfectly. And might I say (hopefully) in agreement with everyone who participated in the final contest, It was quite a struggle getting to the Cradle of Rebirth, but it was worth every moment of it.

Cania, I have enjoyed every moment by your side, from the parties in Tahrongi, to the discussions in The Order and Crescent Moon. I wish you the best of luck in your future adventures. Keep in touch here on the boards, and I look forward to hearing from you again.

You will always be my friend.

Wow you guys are truly touching. It amazes me how truly eloquant people can become when when those specific ties that bind each of us to another are pulled. That was in part why I wanted to have these elaborate events. To bring out the best in you guys and to show each and every person who comes here to read what is actually important in this game. (Hint: it has very little to do with leveling) I feel the fool to leave such great friends, but I feel it was my time. Who knows? Maybe I will come back someday, but then, as Glorfindel said, I'd have to do something like defend Windurst from destruction by soloing Timat and then nobly being killed by poison after I slew her.

I am at peace though just having known all of you, and that is a far better and more memorable thing than any other achievement that my tricksy mind can concieve. Ta~Tataru for now ;)
