Before leaving for WOW think of my experiences with it.

ok its allright but if your leaving to think thats its better, its simply not , at all....

• Once you choose your job, thats it, u cant change it , your a priest for the rest of the game ,lol and there is no subjob.

• I hope you like quests because that is all people do and care about.

• If you thought cerberus was unfriendly at times, wait till you go on the hellscream realm LMAO its tough to get anyone to talk to you at all or help ya along the way.

• last but not least, there is no challenge to the game at all and the mobs are completely undelightful to fight. I got to level 10 in about 2 hours work.

So this is not just for you this is for everyone who reads this thread if youve ever though of going away.

Im probably gana do the same. Probably getting a new graphics card for christmas and then the game soon afterwards. It looks amazing and i have a few RL friends who play it already so maybe finding help wont be as hard as someone else mentioned. And WoW did get a better review on gamespot.com then FF XI (and maybe on other sites i have not checked anything else =P) so thats gata account for something.

Cheers!

I love questing, but WoW is only on PC.

My home pc is too old to run it anyway... ET is still using it to contact the mother ship (if that tells you how out dated my PC is ^^ )

I'm just holding out to get a new one when Windows Longhorn comes out...

I have it, have friends on it, and have played it twice. :-/

Don't get me wrong, there are some things I like better about WoW but they are frills. Example: you type /dance, he really dances. Not something going to keep me on the game. You can only watch a skeleton head bang for so long before you actually have to do something. If you are truly one of those that HAS to get to the highest level and skips everything on the way, WoW is the game for you. If you enjoy the experiences you had on your way there, keep FFXI. Just my 2 cents.

Minithanatos, Good luck in WoW.

I think we may soon see people coming back to FFXI (or play both FFXI and WoW). WoW is the like the new blonde on the block. Last few weeks, our server population have really declined.

Let's take this point by point.

1. You can't change jobs, but then again you aren't charged for extra characters either. This means that you are not confined to the race you start with, nor are you forced to make room for your "other job here" gear. While it can be argued that none of your skills carry over, I'd like to mention that most jobs in FFXI have a "recomended" weapon with which you gain your endgame WS. Ironically, while most jobs in WoW start you out with training in a specific weapon (Maces for Paladins, but not swords) you can train in them for a small fee and weild whichever weapon you are most comfrotable with straight into the endgame. Conversely when was the last time that a WHM really relied on that Elemental skill from the BLM sub? Enhancing and Enfeebling are good skills that carry but, they get capped like everything else that isn't considered a main part of the job. Tradeskills will not carry, but then everyone is limited to 2 mainskills in WoW, which actually encourges making new characters. So you lose the ability to keep your name when a buddy needs you to switch over to a healing role. So what? Just mention that you have a Priest named "so-and-so" of <x> level.

1a. No sub-jobs! Dear God NOOOO! What ever will we do without those PLD/MNK or RNG/BST that run rampant in FFXI. The sub-job system is a little bit silly. It offers the illusion of diversity in playing styles while the end result is that if you try something different people look down on you as though you were the devil going to Sunday brunch. In WoW there are Talent Trees. These allow you to customize your job so that the Hunter you play as will not be exactly the same as every other Hunter out there. You can learn certain skills that are only availible if you devote all your talent points into one tree, or you can mix and match trees in order to make a Hybrid. Not only that but the only label you wear is the one on your job. If you want to take a defensive approach to your job no one can snub you for not being offensive, becuase they can't read your talent tree like it was a sub-job label. Further, you aren't required to level a job you hate in order to be at your peak in another job. No more BLM whiming about having to play as a WHM, or NIN having to level WAR. On the same note no need to buy low end gear for leveling your sub either.

2. And what is so wrong about quests? Certainly it adds plot to the game, some of which is good reading. You gain adequate rewards, in exp and financial income. Another point I'd like o drive home is this: YOU AREN'T KILLING CRABS AND BEETLES FOR 60 LEVELS! People use quests to level and make money, there is very little farming and very little level grinding because of the quests. You are an adventurer, not an exterminator.

3. I suppose if you're trying to grind out levels this might be an issue. Most of the time when I'm on a quest I just hang out in the area I'm questing and someone else on the same quest will ask me if I'm doing it too. If not usually we can come to an agreement that I'll share my quest with you and you share mine sort of thing. If the quests aren't shareable we still end up helping each other for mutual benefit (you still get exp and still get money when you kill things). Usually there are enough people in an area with similar goals to form the maximum 5 man group. The nice thing is that since the jobs have a ton of abbilites vs FFXI jobs, most parties can and will work. A Paladin in WoW, has more tricks up his sleeve than a PLD/WAR and a RDM/WHM, so you can get away with parties like Pld, pld, War, Warlock, Hunter. The way the game is set up it encourages people who are wandering about to party up together. It is, in fact, a very freindly system.

4. Yeah whacking a crab over the head in E Saru for about 1-2 days is a real challenge. Its an even bigger challenge when you do it for another 50 levels and the crab only learns a few more tricks. In case you didn't notice, WoW players and monsters get more skills earlier than in FFXI. You have to learn which skills counter what, you have to know when to and when not to use these skills. As you level up battles become more hectic not because it takes longer to kill something but because you have to be smart or your *** will get handed to you. Battles in FFXI just don't have this much variety, everyone is pretty much doing the same thing they were doing at level 15 only with better armor or better spells. It becomes taxing, it becomes an actual job, it just isn't as fun as it was 30 levels ago. Whereas in WoW, yes it is easier to level because you don't have to wait an hour to find a party, you don't lose exp if you die, and you don't have to spent time leveing a sub-job you'd rather not. The leveing is not easier because there is no challenge. If I went down to Gustaberg and /shout~ed there was no challenge in FFXI because I had made it to level 10 solo, I'd be the laughing stock of the server. Why? Because I'd be basing my opinion of the game on the absolutley weakest monsters there are.

F WoW... really, what kinda Final Fantasy Fans ditch one of the greatest FF games in history...
sorry if u find it offensive but, as a FF fan for life, its hard to see such nice people move to another game that is likely to get as dumb as Yahoo Pool Online...

I'd have to agree. I mean there are some ****** parts to FFXI but over all I've only ever tried to quit once. But that was personal reasons, not for another game. I don't think I'll ever play another mmorpg, unless SE makes another one in the FF realm. I've spent almost a year on this game and I've made some good friends. It sucks to see people leave, but thats the way the internet goes.

As for me, I want to make my character the best it can be in this game. I'll either do that or quit trying.

Good luck in WoW =)

Minithanatos reporting from WoW :

-This game is great, levels are so much faster, im lvl 30 paladin now and got 1300 HP and 1200 MP!!! 45k XP for 1 lvl goes off in about 3-4 hours max.

-All paladins in FFXI bow before me =P 2500 def at lvl 30 muhaha

-Never need to farm, while getting xp/doing quests, the money you will need to buy stuff at AH/buy skills will come easily.

-Diversity, any kind of party can work, any class together can make a good group, there are NO useless jobs like in FFXI (dragoon), everyone can deal damage.

-Pets, with like 5 classes u can summon a pet, and those who cant summon them, u can buy a cat, rabbit, etc. I just saw a Mini-Diablo pet tonight, was funny as hell

-Quests, a crazy amount of them, a lot of them are one after another from a same NPC so a little storyline is incremented in it, pretty fun.

-PvP, OH MY GOD!! so fun, u can go in Alliance or Horde cities, depending which u are, and u get attacked by guards and u gotta kill people in the city its fun lol tried it the other day and got killed by a lvl 62 guard about 3 seconds after i entered the undead city =P. Duals, u can dual people if they insulted you, or laughed about you or just dual a friend for fun. I wanna try to make a tournament tomorrow.

-Graphics, crazy graphics. make sure u got a good G-card and some spare RAM cuz ur gonna lag like crazy (like me)

-Types of monsters : wow! so much kind of monsters, some are aggroing, some are not, but they arent all the same, while riding a gryphon tonight, i saw a BIG BIG BIG dragon, he was like 100 times bigger than me, all red and flying around, lvl ???, kinda like the HNMs in FFXI but they repop each 15-30 min.

-Items, so fun, like 10-20 mobs drop the same item, so theres no camping or stuff, random drops, the better items are -0,01% =$

-Friends, friendlist is screwed up cuz u gotta add ur friends for each character they make or u make but you see what lvl they are and the area.

-Teaming up, on my server (Lightbringer PST) (thats for enthuz if u wanna come play with me its my server), everyone is friendly, a lvl 40 mage helped me finish 2 quests without asking anything.

-Power Leveling: W00t there is no calling for help or anything, u can run away and the monster will stop aggroing after a while, but if a higher lvl character comes near u and ur in trouble, he gets his axe out and whacks on the mob and u get the xp for YOUR lvl.

-Death, no losing xp, u can run to ur corpse or talk to the spirit healer and be resurected near him but you lose 25% durability and have weakness on for 10 min.

I miss everyone that i knew dearly in ffxi, and i /salute them all and wish them good luck, ill be reporting once in a while in these forums with new of my charac/gameplay in WoW for those interested and to say hi to my friends.

Have fun everyone!! I'll be reporting back in a week or two, probly gonna be lvl 40-50 by then =P

umm, last time i checked we deal some damn good dmg, and
ur forgetting that its a different game,so ur 2500 defence doesnt mean anything, it almost sounds like a total rip off of ffxi, just for the less patient people.

a few features sound interesting like 1v1, but the whole thing where guards attack you is kinda dumb.

Total rip off of ffxi? Lol Honestly if you think of it ALL MMORPGS ARE A RIP OFF OF ANOTHER. Have you actually tried playing WoW? I have sampled it for a bit, and i admit it does have its few ups downs, and things that FFXI could actually implement (cough cough GMS that ACTUALLY do something cough). I believe WoW was made for the casual gamer Who cannot devote most of thier time to a game. I love the fact that you still GAIN exp even when you dont play.

Couple of reasons why i am not playing it now, is 1. I'm waiting for the game to drop in price, and the economy to somewhat settle. 2. I have put to much time and effort in FFXI to give up. 3. All my friends still play ffxi (and some of them play WoW/FFXI). Most likely in the end ill probably be playing both ffxi and WOW.

Actually no its not imagine if you where in a PVP zone part of town you are a noob and some High lvl dude decides to stay near town where noobs run out and slaughter um. Now the gaurds see this THEY WILL STOP THE SLAUGHTER Kill the high lvl and the noobs will be safe to run freely!

Now look at FFXI there are guards OUTSIDE of town and they just STAND there. I remember when i first played and i was in west ronfaure i went in a little to deep and i got chased by an orc. I started running back to the castle for safety. I thought that the guards at the gate would atk the beast that was chasing me. THEY DIDNT, they stood there motionless. I fell at the city gate and delvled from 6 to 5 lol.

Actually i could think of several useful things, but hey thats up to you if you think where guards attacking you is dumb. Just remember that in World Of WARCRAFT they are at war with alliances/each other hence guards atk the outside threat.

EDIT: errors errors errors ><

Cerberus lost 2100 players as the result of WoW. You pretty much got your wish. No more peaking past 4800 players online.

Just one minor point on WoW:
Never say their quest grind is different from a kill grind. It's a kill grind you must return to an NPC for. I don't think that's a bad thing. I'm simply saying, the grinds themselves are no different.

Im glad you are having so much fun playing WoW. After all thats what games are for right? I mean who cares if you like FFXI better than WoW, or WoW better than FFXI.

Having said that, here are the reasons why I prefer FFXi to WoW, and also, what I hear when you type about WoW;

Quote:
This game is great, levels are so much faster, im lvl 30 paladin now and got 1300 HP and 1200 MP!!! 45k XP for 1 lvl goes off in about 3-4 hours max.

This game is so easy, I hit level 30 already, and will probably be at the cap in another 2 months max. Theres no challenge in levelling, making money or getting hard to find items.

Quote:
-Diversity, any kind of party can work, any class together can make a good group, there are NO useless jobs like in FFXI (dragoon), everyone can deal damage.

Because this game is so easy, I can make a 6 man party with whatever the hell class happens to be on. No real need to coordinate anything, or get a good balance of jobs and people. Phear my 6 man Paladin menace.

Quote:
-PvP, OH MY GOD!! so fun, u can go in Alliance or Horde cities, depending which u are, and u get attacked by guards and u gotta kill people in the city its fun lol tried it the other day and got killed by a lvl 62 guard about 3 seconds after i entered the undead city =P. This is a point of difference, in that people that like PvP will love WoW, and those who don't will prefer FFXI. After many PvP experiences with all kinds of AOLer fools, I prefer to not PvP. Again, really a matter of preference.

I have no idea what you're talking about. To me the characters look like Fisher Price Rescue Heroes. For a game thats 3 years newer than FFXI I was expecting much more. Same goes for the new EQ. And I hate to break it to you, but from what Ive seen and heard, its pretty much the same kinds of mobs you fight all the time in this game too, except with new skins (well that at least is a nice change).

Quote:
-Power Leveling: W00t there is no calling for help or anything, u can run away and the monster will stop aggroing after a while, but if a higher lvl character comes near u and ur in trouble, he gets his axe out and whacks on the mob and u get the xp for YOUR lvl.

Not a good thing IMO. Promotes Noobs.

These are good things, that I actually wish we had in FFXI. However, not enought to outbalance the rest in my eyes. Ill stay with FFXI.

In short, I wasnt trying to flame you or anything. I hope you have fun in whatever game you decide to play in the future. I was just getting sick of all these WoW threads turning into "WoW owns FFXI because" threads.

Peace.

I have to admit that I've found WoW to be a bit lacking. I really wanted to like it, because the 4 hours LFP thing for FFXI definately puts a limit on how much longer I'll be able to play it, but I pretty quickly got tired of WoW's simplistic grind, around which the quest system is a thin (but flavorful) wrapper. Maybe when I no longer have time for FFXI, I'll try playing City of Heroes, but for now it's TARU4LIFE.

Ya my friend has it and i didnt liek it that much. Not many people are nice at all, kind of liek when i played WarcraftIII.
I am agreeing with some peoples posts about FF fans. This is a amazing game, i have never experienced anythign like it. Plus i am very close to my friends online and i would feel bad leaving them. So until we all decide to switch to somthing else,
(which prolly wont be till another SE MMORPG) i will change things up and keep the game interesting. :D

~Please remeber guys, WoW is not more advanced than this game is.

who cares how this game is less advanced or what ever you said about it. it plays a lot smoother. you dont need a party to kill everything. the questing is better, the crafting is better, the combat is more live action even for DD. Also there is no irrelevent job. Every party can function with any type of member structure. Just becuase the graphics may not look as good dont mean ****. If you want to play a game for graphics get one of those DVD games the sell at EB where you watch a video and choose what you do next. Excellent graphics with ****** game play.
