I had been planning a 'Winter Event" for my lnikshell, the Pheonix Knights, for quite some time. Today was the 'Pre-Event" where we would exchange some Christmas gifts, and proceed to go fight in Ballista. However, we were going to fight in 1v1 battles between our LS members, and not take part in the actual Ballista match.
The match was a Bastok vs Windy lvl 30 cap fight in Pashow Marshlands, so decided to hang out there before the signups would begin. As people outside of our LS began to arrive in Pashow, we began telling people what we were doing, and the possibility of a Ballista match beign ruined. We advised to not join if youll be dissappointed, but if they didnt mind then we'ld stay away from everyone and leave the match alone. We repeated this several times until the start of the match.
So it begins, and we all run to the NW corner of Pashow, and begin having our fun. I myself tried to fight a SMN friend of mine, and got whipped by Judgement Bolt. It was crazy fun, and we were having a blast. But then a group of Bastok ppl showed up, and repeatedly killed the Windy ppl of my LS. After much yelling, we got them to stop and leave. Then a Mithra named Tainted (on the Bastok team) shows up, and asks to fight Darknite (our DRK) 1v1. They fought, it was a close fight, but tainted won in the end. It was all good fun ... but then Tainted began shooting the Windy on my team. We began yelling at Tainted, but she (or he) just wouldnt stop. Mind you, we all had a full convo in English before the fight with Darknite, and now Tainted wouldnt let up. After a few fights, Tainted began saying "You ruined my fun in this game, so Im going to ruin yours." This continued till the end of the match. At the lineup at the end of the match, my LS got into an arguement with Tainted and a friend (i think the name was Dragonstorm) ... both were being VERY thick headed, dismissing our saying we warned everyone, and insulted our LS. Dragon also told me that we were rude to do what we did, and that we ruined the match and eeverything.
WHO IS AT FAULT HERE??? We gave many many MANY warnings, and then ppl still messed with us, refusing to listen to what we were saying. I just want some people's input on this ...

I haven't did ballista yet, but definitely looking to it, probably when I get level 50 or so. The first thing I would do is put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if you were looking forward to doing ballista, fight some random people from a competing nation, only to find out that a LS has other plans? I'd be disappointed. I don't think there's anyone who wouldn't be. However, this brings me to your side.
You gave many warnings as you said over and over. I see that you were just trying to be fair and give these people who show up a heads up at what you guys were up to.
Both sides were trying to do something, both of you prevented each other from doing that something. It's basically a simple disagreement. So then, we go to the next part of what I have to say, respect.
You showed respect by telling everyone doing ballista ahead of time, and even let Tainted fight a person she wanted to fight. 1 vs 1.
Tainted showed respect by asking to fight, but then later on violated this by shooting at other members as you have said. The insulting of the LS was unnecessary.
I wouldn't take the remarks made by the people too serious. You did your best to be fair in what you were trying to do for the game - bring some fun! I'm sure this will pass, just give it time, and don't feed the fire.

I dont think theres a clear wrong here, Both have points, just one was an ******* about it.

It was 7 to 5 actually, with which the match would have gone ahead anyways. Bastok won, but I'd have to bring up the point that even if it was a fair game, bastok would have won anyways, since they had a fair number of rangers and thieves.
Secondly, when we told everyone about our event, no one said anything at all. Mind you, this was with 10 other players in view not counting LS members, maybe 2-3 were japanese, but the rest were all NA players. If anyone had brought up any protests, we would have peacefully settled the dispute, and left if need be. However, this was AFTER no one had said anything, so I think a player complaining after the event was midway and proceeding to grief our LS members is just a bit too much. We had a few JP players come to kill our LS members, but that was settled amicably when we told them to stop, but Tainted came in saying that she wanted to 1v1 with one of our members, but then turned on us and killed the Windurstian players in our LS. I'll include a rough chat transcript of what happened.
Tainted : Ooh that looks fun, can I 1v1 <LS-member>
LS-member : Sure, I'll 1v1 you.
*Tainted proceeds to kill said LS member*
*Tainted continues to kill other LS members with crossbow*
Tainted : You ruined my fun

Me : I hope you know it's quite selfish to ruin the fun of 7 others for your own personal gain.

You get the idea. I think SE didn't implement PvP in the first place to stop immature players like Tainted from griefing others. We only had this Ballista event as a one-off celebration for Christmas, and we gave due warning about it to all who entered the contest. In my opinion, Tainted is either a major hypocrite or a mentally unstable individual, based on how our conversation played out.

I was unable to make it to this ls event, but I did participate in a lvl 50 Ballista today with Tainted on the opposing team. At some point both sides decided to start doing 1v1 battles, but he began to shoot arrows at me in the midst of a fight with someone else multiple times. This obviously got me a bit miffed, but the Rdm I was fighting was pretty pissed too. While this is a different situation than the ls event, Tainted has proven to be a bit unfair in regards to accepted terms of play. It's not even as if their side needed the points, we were getting our asses handed to us (our sides were horribly unbalanced, Drk, Drk, Thf vs Rng, Rdm, Nin, Drg x.x), so I think it's pretty clear he is far more interested in the act of killing off someone else than even the slightest amount of sportsmanship, which is pretty sad if Ballista's the only thing keeping him in the game as Mero says.
Actually, that was my mistake for today. Rdm never let me know it was 1v1 till after I took a shot. :( Sorry~ It was fun 1v1ing you though.
One of my friends said that Tainted unfairly took of with an Emporer drop, which the two had planned on selling and splitting. That's a pretty crappy thing to do.
She has always been nice to me, but I have never partied with her, so I can't really say much for her character.

As for ballista I don't have much to say, I've never had the inclination to paticipate in one, but I have talked with Tainted before. I must say my opinion of this player is not very high. I was doing a rank 4 mission with her once and to say the least she was quite rude. Somehow, we got into a dispute about MPK, and suprizingly enough she supports it. She told me that she thinks it ok to MPK, and that it is fair game. To hear what (they) did here is not a shock in the least. I would expect such from someone who openly admitted that they MPK for pure personal profit.
*Side Note*
This is a game after all, we are here for fun. One thing that we must all realize though, is that some people relish in the fact that they can ruin other peoples' fun. I used to play semi-pro Counter-Strike and when I would Pub search late nights, cheating players would run rampant. There was no purpose to their cheating, it didn't benefit them in any way, it just made them feel good to ruin other peoples' fun. While we suffer, they are having a grand old time. Our suffering only enhances their enjoyment.
How do we combat this ignorance? Well, one way is to ignore it. If they don't get a rise out of us, then they feel as if they are being slighted. By shouting at her, you just provoked her to continue. She obviously did it to aggravate you, and she succeded. I believe it's okay to get upset about it when there are so many cancelled matches that no one goes to. It's very incosiderate to stick around a game that's actually going to happen and expect people not to be angry. I don't remember seeing any warnings since I got there, and I don't remember seeing anyone say it was okay. Either way, the LS event would have gone on despite opposition because they are selfish pigs.
Also, I am a very fair person. I know for a fact I've never said I MPKed anyone, nor do I endorse it. Not to mention I pretty much soloed rank 4 because I already had said items, and I've only helped a very few people with it and your name never coming to mind.

I'm sure a lot of people think I support gil selling, when all I've pretty much said that the people who do it aren't evil and out to make you miserable. I've talked to one extensively who says he hates his job, but needs money to come to America to live a better life, and to play the game for fun.

So you're in a party and your rdm doesn't want to refresh, your tank doesn't want to tank, and one of your DD wants to use the weapon they have zero skill in. You're going to say it's okay to kick them from party even though it may be what they enjoy doing? Please, stop being hypocrites.
The best thing though is how said LS never mentioned about them threatning to ruin my reputation. Even though I laughed at that, and still do, it just shows how low people are. They were in the wrong from the very start, and I'm dumb enough to believe two wrongs make half a right. I also like how people spread false rumors about people in this game. I wish people would tell you they don't like you upfront and not try to tarnish your name. But I understand most of you happen to be adults unable to cope with the reality of adult life, and escape to this game which pretty much mirrors high school.
And the thing is, I don't really care what you all think. I know that people who actually talk with me can get beside my ego and see that I do a whole lot of helping to cover for me wiping the floor with three of their LS members. Anyway, I'm just as big of a loser as any of you for typing all of this. Ta-taru~ V ^_^

Funny that you know this for a fact, since you didn't object or say anything. That is so weak. If you had raised a serious objection when they told everyone about this, I would agree with you 100%. But you didn't. You didn't say anything, NO ONE said anything in objection. So the ls members rightly took this as acceptance. By saying nothing you gave them the go-ahead to play their non-standard game. And then you came and ruined it. You're the hypocrite.

Then one time we were about to disband, we had a sucky tank but a member of the pt was about to lvl, she died like 3 times due to badass tanking -not mentioning any names.....- but she still decided to carry on until the person lvl... how many of you guys would do that?
And we made like 18k exp 2 days ago when we lvled together again, so ppl out there who says she is a bad rng, NO SHE isn't! she is one kick *** rng! and i personally would love to pt with her again ^^

We prolly wouldnt have hated tainted if she diddnt go and ruin our x-mas event. Seems kinda selfish if you ask me, We supposedly ruin her fun so she/he has to ruin 7 other peoples fun.
