Does anyone here know the .dat file for Fafnir, Nidhogg, Tiamat or Vrtra? Preferably Vrtra.

I've found lists on different sites, but it seems none of them contain these .dats.

If anyone has a program that you use to view .dats as what they appear in-game, that would be even better.

Its in there somewhere, I guess you can try different .dat files yourself and write down which one brings in which.

It appears that the FFXI Model Viewer shows all FFXI .dats, not just the character models. I will begin my search and post the results should I find the .dats for the above monsters.

Here we go:

All of these are in the PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ folder. The second number is that of the .dat file.

EX: ROM3(folder)\9(sub-dir)\53(.dat) = Hippogryph

Goal (As close as I can figure since I've never seen them in-game):
Vrtra: ROM3\10\28
Tiamat: ROM3\7\53
Fafnir/Nidhogg: ROM\119\79

Others:
Skele from Emptiness: ROM3\9\52
Tenzen: ROM3\0\62
5 Arch Angels: ROM2\22\8-12
Gilgamesh: ROM2\16\10
Bahamut: ROM3\7\36
Devil: ROM3\5\68
Fenrir: ROM2\22\13
Adamantoise: ROM\136\13-14
Za'Dha Adamantking: ROM\119\78
Summons: ROM\119\58-63
Carby: ROM\97\86
Country Control Flags: ROM\7\95-97
Shadow Lord: ROM\7\80-81
Demon: ROM\7\64
Behemoth: ROM\5\52-53
Aldo: ROM\3\52
Cid: ROM\3\37
Lion: ROM\3\34

Hope something in there peaks your interest. If not, make a request here and I'll see if I can find it for you.

Someday, when I'm bored, maybe I'll make a list of all the .dats and what they are.

Is it safe to assume there is no way to do this with a PS2?
#9 Dec 27 2004 at 9:18 AM Rating: Good
You would be correct to assume that, Nyruu. Image and Music hacking are for the PC version only.

Yeah, I've decided to make a complete list of everything that the Model Viewer can view. Look for it posted here, most likely, within the next few days, depending on the time I have to work on it.

Edit: Greyhound, the Sandy rabbit model is ROM\4\108.
No problem Mac, we all have our days :p

I would love (if I still had my mog house or game left) to have the Elvaan ruler and king.. Man o' man, imagine having the glory of the elvaans in your apartment, mopping your floor.. That'd be the ****.

EDIT: At least that beats having to go to the sandorian castle and actually insulting him everytime I was in a bad mood.. Some elvaans in Sandy got pretty upset.

I love my avatars... won't change them to save my life... but the spirits... eh... they look like the every day garden variety elemental... so I've replaced them with other models.

Earth Spirit = Looks like a cross between a Demon and the Shadow Lord. Looks Alien.

Water Spirit = Huge Turtle thing with barnacle towers on his shell.

Air Spirit = Dragon you must fight for the Dragoon advanced job.

Fire Spirit = Manticore.

Ice Spirit = That dark Taru.

Lightning Spirit = Shadow lord 2nd form.

Light Spirit = Light Spirit... no sense in changing this or dark spirit.

I'm debating making the dark spirit my moogle tho... that'd be pretty cool to walk in and see a swirling black vortex... then I change job to blm ^^.

being able to change ur avatars or elementals might actually make me go smn but blm is too good of a job to pass up =P

Heh, as I thought myself... till I retired my blm at 46 once my lvl 20 smn had a capped skill and was taking on the solo avatar battles. After I got my avatars, the job increased 10x in enjoyment... tho I may go back to blm some day... it probably won't be anytime soon. Infact, I think my smn will be the first job I have that will be able to make use of my lvl 51 elemental staves. Dunno, just enjoy playin with the pets... especially putting them on an Easy Prey, watching them drain half my mp and survive the battle. As a lvl 34 blm, Easy Prey would drain 70-80% of my mp and nearly kill me in the process... SMN is like a gimped bst that can recall pets when ever mp is present... in the fact they both can use pets repeatedly whereas a drg looses his/her two hr when their wyvern dies.

This is why you'll see bst's or smn's sitting far away from a battle as their pet does all the work... you'll rarely see a drg do that (saw one this weekend in Ordelle's when doing RSE tho). I do like the fact that, as a bst, you can rest while your pet is in battle. If smn had that ability, we'd be lethal.

NonXsistentSamurai, how'd you view the models for CoP? I have the FFXI viewer, but it only works with the pre-coded models... Would be nice to open up a lil more and see the new models in CoP...

I took the bahamut model you listed here and used it for a replacement on my Air Spirit (at the time I had the Wyvern you must fight for the Dragoon Flag). Well, after summoning it, I realize it is very high in the sky... so I made it fight a mob so I could stand back and get a full view. I'm not entirely sure what they use this model for, but I can tell it's not for fighting... the only motion the model has is :idl (idle). There's no attacks or anything special. I was a little sad and would like to see if there's a Bahamut model with fighting motions... till now, I'm using that devil (which does have fighting motions), and it's pretty sick.

Krem, I don't know what to tell you about the Bahamut animations, only thing I can figure is that that is the only animation for him as he doesn't fight anything in CoP (I don't think).

As for the CoP NPCs and mobs, you just have to change the list of models being viewed in the Viewer. All you have to do is click the NPC bubble and you can scroll to a CoP section at the bottom, which includes both NPC and mobs.

Also, Krem, maybe you have an out-dated viewer with pre-defined filepaths and lists and such. Not sure where the latest version is , didn't save the url. Maybe someone will be kind enough to post it.
