[Edit- keeping the guy anonymus]
I usually don't make these kinds of posts, but what I saw tonight was so absurd I have to share. I was laughing too much to really get mad at the guy. So I just want everyone to know my intentions aren't hostile.
I've decided to leave this guy anonymus for now- because I just want to share this story more than anything. Now, if any else who was in my pt reads this and wants to share his name, I'm not going to object too strongly. And if you guess who the player is by noticing the same pattern, I may let you know. So for the sake of this article, we'll call him by his job, Dragoon. One player in the pt and myself both noticed this guys numerious shortcomings, but we've all had a our fair share so I'm not going to nitpick.
To set the stage we were a lvl 25-26 party in Kazham. We were killing Mandys. Now, as we all know, Mandys are infamous for "Dream Flower" which puts the party to sleep. After this happened one particular time, me (WHM) and the BLM take a couple of hits and Dragoon vokes the Mandy. Afterwards he complains that the Vokers in the pt weren't doing their job. Of course they were all "WTF", etc, etc. One guy actually responded with "I was asleep, I couldn't voke" or something similar. Almost all the vokers left, needless to say, but I hung out to give Dragoon the benefit of the doubt. Then, to my utter amazment, Dragoon(who was leader) actually said "Sorry I had to kick him, he was sleeping on the job." At first I thought he was joking. But given Dragoon's track record up to this point I had to be sure. So I asked him if he understood that if a player is sleeped he can't voke. He didn't answer. I asked again in case he just didn't read what I asked. No answer. So I gave him the ultimatum of "If you don't answer, I will leave." He then began talking to other players on who's tank, DD, etc and said he was going to Kazham to get more food or something- completely ignoring me, which was simply just rude. So, I left.
It's one thing to make a mistake, I've had some whoppers in my day (and still do). But to pretty much alienate yourself from the rest of the pt?
Even if I made the same mistake he did I would have simply commented on what a foolish mistake I made and worked on getting people back. Instead he just buried his head in the proverbial sand and pretended like nothing happened (and ignored one of the few objective minds in the group). To me, that's the biggest mistake.
I'm sure there are plenty out there that can call me on doing many things equally stupid, if not even moreso. But to me the way a person handles their mistake speaks volumes about their character. Just had to get this off my chest.
