Here's a brief warning to everyone.

I was in Bastok earlier, leveling my Smithing up. (Which I will never do at 2:30 AM again... overbid on a stack of Iron Ingots by 10k ><)

Anyway... someone is shouting their mule.. whatever...
After a while he sends me a /tell in very broken English asking if I'm interested in his Super Secret Deal. I ignore him. He then sends another /tell saying he's willing to sell Leaping Boots for 100k. Apparently, he needs the money fast... yeah... right. I go along with the game because hey... you never know, right?

Well... it turns out he tried to trade me a pair of Lizard Ledelsens. Nice try buddy... I'm not as dumb as I look.

Anyway, be careful people. The character was a Galka in Bastok named Sagea. I'm sure tomorrow he'll have a different character in a different city, but still.... everyone should be careful.

Hehe, my cousin told of me of a same situation that happened on Titan a week or two ago. Some guy in Jeuno was shouting out Emp. Hairpins for sale, 50k! And surprisingly he was successful in tricking these people that the "Emp. Hairpin" was actually a measly 100 gil item, known as an Insect Wing. Then after those people that were scammed looked in there inventory, they immidietly called a GM. I think this guy should deserve a ban, but he was suspended for a week or so.

Yes I can see your point, but if you are gullible enough to believe that ANYONE will sell a 400-500k item for 50k, and then don't check the item in his trade box, you deserve to be scammed. I don't like to see anyone taken advantage of but come on now. That's just common sense.

Heh, that's kinda like taking home the floor model before seeing it work on the floor.

Another scam to watch out for I saw a mule in Windy trying to do, forget the name, was selling one of the ninjitsu tools for 1,500 gil . . . . each. @@;

You have to wonder how many people this guys scams off who think they are buying a stack off 99 and get ripped for their gil and end up with one, ouch.

Yea, that shihei scam has been going around (have you noticed that people usually use Galka mules for thier scams?) for awhile. Sadly people who have'nt used bazaars very much click on them and buy 99 thinking that they are buying the stack for 5k or so and end up losing 550k.

I actually got a great deal surprisingly just a little while ago. Some guy was shouting that he was selling his Walkure Mask for only 100k (sells for 250k at AH). I send him a tell saying that I'm interested. He told me that it was in his bazaar. So I checked it and purchased it, saving myself 200k that I was going to use to buy Valkyrie Mask back.

Maybe I just got lucky, but I was satisfied nonetheless.

P.S. For those who care, I started playing DRK again after about a 2 month retirement.

Yea Orik, you should wait until I'm ready to start leveling my PLD again... and ummm... >.> after I finish getting my Genkai items. Oh well, I'm having fun with getting my thf to 25 right now. :) Kicking booting with my SA + Fast Blade for 150 closing the SC, and making BLMs go "whoa" is such a thrill.

Most commonly such a scam starts with the actual item you want in the trade window. Then when you put up your money the seller switches to an item with the same icon but worth much less. It is very easy to miss the switch.

The easiest way to avoid this is to ask that the seller put it up in a bazaar. It cannot be changed on you there. If he won't do it, you should smell a scam. Yes, that will cost you an extra 10% in Jeuno, but not anywhere else.

Err... on the ninjitsu thing...

I accidently tried to over-sell it once, but a NIN was kind enough to point out the error I had made...

I thought that selecting it and setting a price was setting for the whole stack, so I had put it up for the price... I was really emberassed later, but luckily no one had bought any so I didn't have to worry.

Just remember... not everyone is out to scam you ^^; try sending a tell and informing them of they're mistake... some of us rarely use the bazaar system and are new to it..

Heh, Sotaka, that kinda reminds me of when I was in the dunes selling fireworks in my bazaar and someone bought like 60 something at 500 gil a piece. I gave the guy a bow and a thank you and gave him a fireworks show from my inventory fireworks. After all said and done, he wanted two fireworks... so I gave him back his gil (minus 1k) and he gave me back my goods... worked out nice, but he teased my emotions...
