I have a question to those in the know about Avatar Primes. What level could a well built pt beat these avatars? I'm currently 57MNK and know a 56BLM, 55RDM, and a few others that would like to have them. Any ideas/suggestions? I know Titan is the easiest but I'd really like to beat Shiva twice; once for the whisper, once for Shiva's Claws. :-D

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

I know that these are HARD! My LS tried about 3-4 nights ago to get Shiva... as a party of 5 (probably NOT the best idea...) and at lvs 55-56. I was RDM, we had WHM, BRD, SAM, and PLD and got PWNED in easily under a minute! It was VERY ugly. I hear there are better methods than how we went about it... like pulling the avatars down the ramps and fighting so that when they attack the mages they have to travel up the ramp to do so (or maybe it was down the ramp...) anyhoo, not much help, but I know my LS is gonna get that B!%$* when we are 60+!! (Oh... and with a full party of 6... LOL!)

The Prime Avatars are all level 70 mobs, with the exception of Fenrir, who is level 80.

If you're going in that battle with anyone less than 60, especially your tank, don't expect to win. I recommend at least a level 65 tank (Both Ninja and Paladin work well), and level 60+ of anything else.

Leet, Sotaka is pretty much a pro at these now. Give him a tell and he can give you all the info you could want.

Drange has most of the primes done now (leviathan and fenrir I believe are the ones he has not completed) however Scythe and I do not so we'll be making a run through them some time in the not to far flung future.

Jacky, maybe we can put something together. If this SP forms like I think it will, we'll be 60+ in no time. My SMN will stay level 6 until I get some avatars. LoL. I really want those shiva's claws ><. :-D

Cool, but what Jeryhn said is absolutely true. I can tell you right now that while the group I was in almost beat shiva the first time (with me tanking war/mnk 60/30) the second time she beat me down in roughly 6 hits. Tank at 65+ is absolute nescessity.

Happily I believe we're partying today so perhaps we'll make a little headway ourselves past 60 =)

I had really hoped to make it to 20 before "needing" any other Avatars. (i'm currently lvl 13) I capped my summoning magic for lvl 12 @ 39 and headed out to the dunes last night to see how much of a difference it did to Carby. I was severely dissapointed... Even w/ my skill capped i was doing very little overall damage to the mob. Granted my enfeebling is capped so i was doing a decent job debuffing the mob... but i really expected to do more damage.

Guess i'll also be putting my SMN on hold until i do the Prime fights. Time to get back to my BLM :P

Leet, I've tanked a few prime fight's. Garuda like 2 times at 66.

Im by far not a pro at em but have done it a few times. I wouldnt suggets having a PLD tank it till very least 65 with great support mages.

Like I said I', no pro at these just been dragged to a few to helps some freinds, higher lvl BLM's deal the best damage on tthese dudes too.

So you're telling me you want to tank :-D. j/k. Or are you? >.> LoL

Well if any of them have an item you want, let me know and we can help each other. Hopefully this SP will be up soon and I can get a few levels relatively quickly. Do you think it would be best to fight it like an HNM or straight up melee? Meaning should I boost -> chi blast?

Me and some friends (ls) have been fighting avatars for the past 2 weeks. We pretty much have them down to a science. One of the biggest things people need to do is prep work for the fights. Always know what each Prime does ability wise. It can save you tons of heartache. And make sure to bring plenty of juice and potions. Yag drinks are great for a PLD to have in these fights. I only use 1 per fight and probably 3 pots per fight (Im Elvaan). It can save you, believe me.

We fought 3 Prime avatars in a row just the other day. You dont have to use your 2hrs to win these fights. Nor do you need a BLM or SMN to be effective. We've been effectivly defeating the primes with PLD/WAR(me^^), WHM/SMN, MNK/WAR, DRK/THF, RNG/NIN, RNG/NIN. So far the toughest avatar has been Ramuh. He had an AOE that paralyzes and the range seemed pretty big. I would suggest keeping mages as far back as possible in all fights but especially him. As long as a WHM can cast paralyna on the tank you'll be fine.

This is obvious but if your tank loses hate in any of these fights its over. The Primes can kill dd's in one hit with their WS or their 2hr. Not saying that isnt possible for the tank but its much less likely. A good PLD can tank these at 63. But you'll need to bring along pots to save some extra mp. I suggest x-potions..

I wouldnt suggest fighting the avatars unless your level ranges from 63-65 (65 being the cap for Avatar-Primes minus Fenrir*uncapped*). I believe SMN's can get away with fighting Primes with their 2hr and other SMN abilities earlier at lvl 60. But its safest to go when your stronger.

Anywho, these fights are tons of fun. Everyone should experience them from time to time if you can. And always bring extra pots in case things get sticky. It can literally save you in the end.

The avatar fights are uncapped. The first avatar I tanked I was 61 PLD. It gets MUCH easier as you get higher, but 65 is by far not a level requirement. I've done avatars with a 56 monk, 58 rdm, and a few 65+ and won easily. You need a good party, and some luck always helps. A tip to Paladins: make a macro to deequip your Jelly Ring before the avatars 2 hr, or it's going to hurt a lot.

My biggest advice for lower lvl (60 or around there) people who want to do these avatars is to find a 70+ BLM to help, then set it up like a xp party from there (pld, rdm, whm, blm, DD of choice and 70+ BLM). This really helps kill the avatars quick, and if things get too tough, or it looks like someone is going to die, the BLM can chain nuke it dead. Keep the rdm and whm on healing duty, and you should be fine. :)
