I've heard a lot of stories about BCNM40 Sprouts and how people frequently give up because they simply cannot get a single win after 3 or more tries.

What my question is... why do people seem to fail at this? After listening to every story, I have came to the conclusion that most failures are caused by the death of the BRD.

So... how many Bards out there are able to do BCNM40 and maintain a winning streak? :o

i dont see how anyone could say its hard, iv done it with 5 people before, its increadibly easy. but in the end, it all come down to a good brd and a good DD to pull the mandys off of the brd. if you brd doesnt have marrys horn, and very preferably monstor signa, and eat def + food, your pretty much guaranteed to lose because he died. and having 1 mandy awake while a weak DD beats on it for a solid min before he takes aggro, the same thing can happen. i always used sleep arrows to keep it from killing the brd, while i do enough dmg to pull hate.
also, i advise whoever tanks to have utsusemi. not that you would want to bring a nin(or a pld for that matter) because a nin will never hold hate, or deal enough dmg to be of any use. but the black one will likely cast flood and 1 hit whoever it tanking it if utsusemi doesnt catch it.

Actually, I don't have a Monster Signa or a Mary's Horn (Well I HAD a Mary's Horn before I needed to return it) and basically the only thing I had on me was a Fish Mithkabob and I was a Taru. In fact, there were times where I didn't eat anything and I just went in.

There are 2 main reasons why people fail at this (im 120/130ish)

The number one reason for failure is the death of bard if bard dies while there are more than 2-3 mandra on him/her you will fail unless ur pt has 2 or 3 blm.

The most common setup i have run across is

1st 2nd 3rd
Brd/whm Brd/whm Brd/whm
Thf/nin Drk/war pld/war
rng/nin thf/nin rng/nin
rng/nin rng/nin rng/nin
rdm/blm whm/blm rdm/whm
whm/smn blm/whm rdm/whm

Now im not saying u need these exact just been mainly what my bcnm runs look like. (my personal pref is brd,rngx4,rdm/whm)

okay 2nd reason is...

No damage or Not enough mp for tanks and brd. which eventually will kill brd and the rest of you.

So basically this bcnm boils down to the brd... if the brd cant sleep all mandra thats a problem... (well if u miss 1 no big deal but if u miss say 4 thats a problem) If the brd isn't far enough away from black one and gets para thats a problem.

Brd is vital for this and if he/she screws up bad its over.

3rd reason people fail not so common...

they panic if somebody dies and that leads to confusion of all, which will kill you all. I have managed to win these when 3 people have died during the process first was rng/nin forgot to get shadows up for flood then 2nd rng did same thing making a mess so now pt was down to 4. So rdm raise both rng eventually and somehow managed to get too much hate and black mandra killed him off... then died from barrage of rng. So all was left was 5 ppl no healer for brd other than brd. however rngs managed to bounce hate around enough for recasting on the rest of the 7 mandra and we won it mind you we did it in 29:31 but still we did it.

I've done it once. We lost only because I got killed by flood. That's all. From what I know, kill the black one, and it's cake.

the one night (along long time ago in my whm days) i tried this 5 times, we never had a problem of the bard dying or anything. I just think our leader brought some DD's that well, didn't do much dmg. We would always get to the last mandy and get booted out because they took so long >.>

did this 'gimped as hell' last night, died first 2 runs due to it really being the bard's first time (and not having played a bard for a long time, nor having mon sig or mary's horn) - brd whm blm mnk pld drg.. after brd got things together and stopped casting horde and it only affecting one or two mandies, it was just.. cake. we even have a vid of us naked beating the last mandy to death lol. anyways yea 4xRng = definitely not required ;) (but some skill would be a good idea)

edit: by gimp i mean most people didn't have much for equip, and there were a few 37's in there lol

Yeah, I mean Ive done this BCNM a few times. A few with Mog actually. Time limit was one reason we failed. BLM/WHM/RDM/DRK/BRD/PLD Then we won. It actually aint that bad.

I did it again and we won easy twice. BLM/WHM,RDM/BLM, WHM/BLM, BRD/WHM, DRK/WAR, RNG/WAR

If you have a good BRD with Mary's Horn, you should have no problem.

Honestly, I prefer going with a bard thats Galka or Elvaan, Akou rocked this the few times i did it with him. I've had my share of BCNM in the past, and being taru, it got cut a little too close some times. I really liked playing whm/smn though^^

I personally think the focus is on 3 jobs. A BRD (obviously) to sleep all white mandy's, a DRK to stop flood and can tank with /war, and a RDM. The few times I have lost this BCNM is because the RDM couldn't keep the BRD healed. I personally think that any halfway decent healer should be able to keep one person alive. Those mandies sleep the majority of the fight as is.

Now why do I pick RDM? Mana pool. They get convert at 40 so that right there gives you twice the mana. My preferred set-up, RDMx2 (one for BRD, one for Melee), BRD/WHM, DRK/WAR, RNG/NIN, THF/NIN.

Why THF? SATA helps a lot when trying to get those mandies off the BRD. If not a THF, I would get another RNG or another DRK. I've gone 6/6 with 2 DRKs.

It's not that hard with people that stay calm and know their roles. :-b

Bard's job in BC40 Steam Sprouts is actually pretty straight forward.

I think a DRK that pays good attention is more important. Once someone suck up Flood and die, and even you manage to raise him/her, you may run out of time in the fight.

Back when I first hit lvl 40, I went quite a few times as BLM/WHM (my job was melee healer). After an 0/13 streak o.0 I finally won a few. Well, time has passed, and now I've gone and lvld BRD to 40, and yes, I have gone as BRD. It's awesome! I just love gettin the crap beat out of me by 7 angry onions! Since lvling BRD I'm 7/9 with a streak of 5 in a row going, really looking forward to more! ^.^
