I had been in a bit of a mid-60s rut for a while and wanted a chance of pace, so I figured I'd finally give ballista a shot. I tried L60 cap, since i had all the gear for it (I had to replace amemit mantle +1 and my snipers etc, but most of the AF was good)

As a monk, I had heard it was pretty pointless, but after hearing about the "sleep nerf" I figured a melee without the sleep 2 spell could do ok.

We lost 150-0 and I got one kill (I think our team had 2 kills total). Afterwards I hear talk of along the lines of "Aww.. the top 10 ranking is gone. I was on there" from the other team. So definately not a good nite to try it out with random friends.

I heard blink was a big factor, but I tore through it easy enough. Sleep 2 was the only factor:/ 2 rdm and a drk kept me asleep half the fight, ran for help, and my best odds in the whole event were 3 on 1 lol. Typically 5 on 1 though, and we were way outclassed in teamwork and job mixes. We tried teaming up (but we had no rdm), and digging for poison potions, but I only found two the entire match, and they came at very bad times.

Anyhow, after we were down 100-0 we kind of gave up, and tried calling for one on one for fun, but no go. The remaining half hour of the match was a mix of humiliation and futility. At the end of it they were very polite (Unlike Quake 3 Leet who claim you as their b*tch after the match ^^) but I couldnt get over the feeling of complete uselessness. I can handle failure, just not "complete and uter" failure... lol.

This was beyond a doubt the worst moment in my online gaming experience. I play FPS games and can handle and respect being beaten by better players, but I would never lose 150-0 lol. I'd get my licks in ^^ Anyhow, I was consumed with bitterness and threw away the L60 gear I bought (well any item udner 10k I think. I was irrational but not insane) and vowed it was not only my first match but last as well.

I've cooled off now.... And now I'm just curious if there are "Beginer Matches" or "Intermediate challenge" times of day to learn the basics, etc. Or is it the same band of rdm roaming from battlefield to battlefield every night? Ballista doesnt seem to be a very noob friendly event.

(By the way, this wasnt a case of one country dominating the other. The experienced palyers all stood there annonymous the whole time until the final few minutes where teams were open to all, and seemed to carefully chose side. I have no idea how this works, that was just my observation. Thus the result was "team useless vs. top10" ^^ )

Anyhow, sorry if this sounds really whiney/poor loser talk, but I was just curious if this was a typical ballista match or not. Either way, that feeling of uslessless wont shake me for a good long while... Down the road I would like to try again and improve on the strategies, etc. Maybe only play events with outside items allowed and bring 50k in poison potions, but we'll see.

Talkin about newbie friendly (or at least how it isn't), there was this one time where I decided "Eh, I'm a BRD, a BRD seems to have some control over Ballista!" so I decided to join a 40 cap at Marshlands and it was 5 vs 5 I believe.

To quickly sum up what happened...

1. One guy in our team was a total jerk to me.
2. I found out that changing equipments during Ballista give you a bound penality (and as a BRD, all of my macros have equip changes)
3. Everyone was "Come over here" and by the time I get there, there's no one except a band of DRGs that wanted to impale me.
4. I said it to many people that misunderstood the use of Horde Lul... the range of it is VERY SMALL. I think that people that do play the game long enough... or even any game for that reason, would know not to stand very close to each other when there's an AoE ability/attack in the game.
5. I lost all respect for Taru Females being played by male players. Sorry Bani ;_;

Anyways, it was a really horrible match though it wasn't a complete shut out. Most if it consisted of me running far away, looking for shelter from the evil Beast San d'Orians.

Will I ever play Ballista again? Maybe, I'm not really the type of person who would give up after being creamed after one battle (That is how I got better in Marval vs Capcom 2 and the Tekken games). Though I will probably never go into Ballista alone, meaning that I would probably take a few people from my LSes and friends list.

My first ballista was rough too. It's ABSOLUTELY NO FUN when there are stacked teams. Well, maybe for the stacked team but definately not for the other one. My first ballista was 5v3 and I was on the 3 side >.> Not exactly the best odds. But the ballistas with balanced teams are the most fun. Sleep is also a pain in ***, try doing a lvl 30 cap, I had so much fun owning people on my Warrior.

And what about Female tarus played by guys? @@;

I love marvel vs capcom ^^

But imagine playing that game and having your opponent unplug your joystick at the start of the match. That was last nights match... lol.

But keeping positive here, I may try a L30 cap match, as I heard there were way less exploits. See if its a bit more enjoyable.

Yeah i remember my first ballista too. Being a blm i got creamed and man o man was it bad. Of course Heero was there seemingly always chasing me down until i died. I played a few more ballista until i learned some valuable lessons:

1. If your a mage try and stick to the normal items allowed matches as echo drops come in handy.

2. Macro /sprint cause you're gonna be doing a lot of running away.

3. Sleepga II pwns when they are all grouped up.

4. Whether or not you know it invis does come in handy.

5. Fighting a Mnk is your best bet as blm cause of lack of magic def or rng attacks. Just dont let them get close or else ur done.

6. Bind. Need i say more?

Being a blm in a lvl 60 cap ballista is hard to do but if you do it right you can have fun just like the rest of the jobs.

No, you just have to get used to it. The lower level caps in my past experience are way more likely to be stacked since less people go to them. What I suggest is just keeping playing and follow what others do. Playing lower level caps will teach you the general flow of things. It's just, one team can't have three nin and two blm and all the other team has are a few random DD. Eventually you'll get one of those extremely exciting matches in 60 where end score is 151-150 and the last two petra were scored with clock at 23:54. Even if you lose you feel so good knowing you went all out all the way through.

Anyway, I bet the team that beat yours 150-to whatever had Heero in it. He only plays on stacked teams, or doesn't play at all. It's funny though when they have all the experienced JP(including Heero) on one team and all us NA on another, and we win.

I don't remember their names... None of them were impressive or remarkable in any way to be memorable, but if the team stacking you mentioned is deliberate and typical of most matches, I'll have to pass on the event.

Team stacking happens in FPS games as well, but they're easy to spot. In the delta force games, for example, you can enter a game and find you're outnumbered 15 vs. 3, and they are a sniper clan on a map they made themselves. They spawn in the surrounding hills, while you spawn in open field with a lone shack for cover... lol. At some point "trying your best" becomes pretty pointless.

So if ballista is following this trend, it's even less "noob friendly" then I ever imagined.
