I cannot deal with the "JP PT ONLY" and utter crap among other things. And waiting literally a whole day for a PT..No one really starts a PT with me anymore, and all the random invite tells stopped. Clear indication that there isn't enough americans playing anymore. Japanese don't give a **** about english.. cant say that I blame them, alot coming into the game just do what they want, sub what they want, and just don't take the game seriously.. But got damn...READ PEOPLE COMMENTS!!! THATS HOW YOU KNOW HOW SERIOUS/GOOD/GREAT A PLAYER IS!!

Even in dunes..the wait is ridiculous..Qufim..

Lack of whms..

People not sticking around, leaving 20-40min in a PT. PT must disband cause no one else available. Or inviting people and then telling them you can't come cause they found someone else, AS SOON AS YOU GET THERE. And..oh DISBANDING as SOON as YOU GET THERE.

But the primary reason is the racism..and I sold my **** and I'm gone when my best friend gets the 330K I have for her in MH. ONe jp player sent me a tell while I was AFK-bazaar saying he'd give my stuff back if I changed my mind. Saying that many JP are trying to change, and they realize the racism is hurting the game. I'm sorry but I can't continue to play in misery. I'm tired of misery and I'm tired of wasting my life waiting for fun to invite me. It is pointless and meaningless..

And all servers have this problem..ALL..there is no escape..from the misery.. So this is all I have left as a option.

I miss the old days, when this was not a problem, so foolish of me to take those days for granted. Oh well.

Zaleshea.... me as a lvl 60 Dragoon know what it is like waiting for parties.... and parties disbanding as soon as you get there. Its happened to everyone, you can't expect everyday in Vanadiel to be just peachy and perfect. Take a few weeks off and come back.... I took a few weeks and the week i came back i got lvl 60.... Just think it over before you leave. Give FFXI another chance.

i'm shocked zaleshea coming from a veteran like you who has probably seen this game since day one and having made multiple characters. I would think you would know how to overcome this situation.

Sometimes you ask your self is it worth the work overcoming it? In his/her case, evidently, it is not.

Yeah, some aspects of the game can really be rough on your psyche. take a break, step back, inhale the RL air, and find some other entertainment for awhile. Don't write Vana off completely. The pros really do outweigh the cons.

Otherwise, good luck to you, there's plenty of "fun" to be had out there.

I have talked to lots of people in the game that feel the way you do. They just want to leave because it doesnt see worth the frustration to continue. I always tell them the same thing...

First..
Remember the first few days you played.. when you were overwhelmed by the graphics.. and the difference in people.. by the fact that a bunny could kick your butt.. Remember the fun stuff, the good stuff, and the stuff that kept you going. You know, back when it was just you and the game.

Second...
Take a little time away. Think about what you did.. not what you need to do. Think about the good things you did, the help you've given. You remember the first n00b (oops bad word) that asked you what to do with the 'adventures coupon' or where the mog house was.

and, if none of that renews your faith in the fun of the game.. quit. But, dont quit outright, most people that I have met that have done that, regret it after. Others, that have.. enjoy the game again as a lvl 1 character.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

I have to admit that I know how she feels and I came very close to leaving myself. Even after today when I was in the dunes with my two real life friends. We were there over an hour plus, trying to put a party together, with my ninja, my friends warrior and my other friends bard. We never got started because we couldn't find a white mage.

I've done a list in my head of the pros of the game versus the cons and sadly, there are a lot more little cons than there are big pros. I'm not giving the game up, mostly for my friends, but I have been playing it a lot less with my recent signing onto World of Warcraft, where I feel I can go at my own pace instead of being forced to do things the way Square forces us to.

Square focused way too heavily on needing 6 people per party to get any headway at all in the game and it seems everything they've done isn't an attempt to truly make the game fun, but instead, is to make it so it takes 100 times longer to get things done than it really should have to. Needing 18 people just to do one quest that allows you to keep levelling or get a piece of armor that most people would say is required. Having to spend 8 hours a day over a couple months farming just to afford that gear you "need" or feel gimped. Sorry, I work full-time and have a family. I don't have the time anymore.

Plus now there is so much focus on doing NMS (BCNMs, HNMs, ENMs, Gods, whatever) that its becoming less like FFXI and more like Diablo 2 with it's endless Ba'al runs and trying to get the best items with no real reason to have them other than level. And quests? In my mind 99% of them are useless, rewarding you with an item that you'll never use and isn't worth anything on the market. No experience and usually a monetary reward that wouldn't even give you 1/20th of what you need to buy a stack of fire crystals (which, by the way, wouldn't cost so damn much if you could still farm them off of Too Weak mobs). Plus, of course, there's the imbalance among classes (Ranger? Yes, Please. Everything else? Too weak. Etc, etc.)

I'll keep playing the game, because I do like the battle system and when you do get a good party, it's a fairly fun game, but if it weren't for my friends having invested so much time in it (though they've been playing over a year and they've still barely scratched 30 because they have lives as well), I'd be gone right now. Once the inital magic wears off... you realize that it's nothing more than what ever other MMORPG before it has been... an exercise in keeping you down as much as possible to get as much money from you as possible. I work hard enough in real life... and when I play FFXI now, it feels like I'm back at work most of the time instead of doing what I should be doing... having fun and relaxing... the point of games in the first place.

It's not really racism, it's just blatently easier to play with people that speak your language. We've all seen the nightmare parties where the JP is playing a key roll, and you can't get through to tell them what specifically to do.

Maybe {English} {Party} {No, Thanks} isn't racism, but {English} {Party} {Too Weak} is stereotyping at the least, and enough to make anyone frustrated.

I never left..but I did sell all my stuff. I gave that one JP player the benefit of a doubt to listen to what he had to say, and I learned many things about the japanese players from him. They fear the mistake of using bad english so they avoid english parties. He also admitted that there are more "bad" JP players than there is good. He's a 70+NIN btw..and his english was near perfect.

I told him all my pain and misery from this game and what hit him hardest when I said while his people can play the game, my people wait 10 hours, weeks, even months to play.. All he could do was say he was sorry on behalf of the japanese.

He was the one that bought all my stuff from my bazaar and said my bazaar message was what got his attention, he held all my stuff just incase I changed my mind. He gave them back upon meeting me in character-person and I gave back the money he spent to buy them(I had 200,000 in gear, and I sold them for a total of 50,000. My RSE boots = 80,000, my price in bazaar was 10,000. I wanted people to make a profit off my own hard work, or some hume female to save her the trouble of pointlessly getting help for RSE.)

We talked for 2 hours.

The regret of taking the old days for granted weighs heavily on my mind. I do not like how our in-server society has become infested with such degrade that you have a will of steel to deal with it. And what you've seen I have not seen yet..WHM43 is my highest in my year playing. I only know so much from doing my own research. Knowledge witout experience is just information. If this is to happen again, I'm afriad overcoming would be an irrelevant desire. I have no enemies in this game and dont think its "fun" to make people miserable in a game they also treat as an escape from the harsh realities of life.

People are not perfect, JP or not. Try not let that get to you.

There are just people anyway. There are a lot of nice people in the game (JP or not again). That JP you met about holding your stuff was very nice, and I know a lot of nice JPs.

About bad players, they exist in players from any nations. There are badly reputed JP, NA, TW, HK, or EU players. No matter what you do, they will still be there. The key is to associate yourself with the right type of player, and pay attention not get cheated or involved with a bad player (some forum checks, chat with LS mates, or even your own personal experiences will tell you who are those bad players are).

About Racism... Racism exists in both Eastern and Western culture. Eastern culture is a lot more racially uniform, and sometimes suspicion to other race can be common. When you walked around the streets of Hong Kong, Tokyo or Shanghai, sometimes you will find yourself really stands out in the wave of black hair and yellow skin. I was raised in Hong Kong -- that was as international as you may get, but racism still exists to certain extend.

A lot of racism and racial conflict can be avoided by some willingness to compromise and acceptance of a difference. The fact you listened to what that other JP player said, showed you are a person willing to accept and make a compromise.

Such unwillingness to compromise and accept exist in both JPs and us. If you ever go to the main forums, you will know what I mean. There are certain people (that I will bluntly critize) are unwilling to compromise at all; if you compromise, they will call you JP worshipper. May be I am actually racially Chinese, and raised in the Far East make such compromise much easier. If people actually check my signature ;), I am in one of larger Taiwan/HK linkshells.

there needs to be some form of universal language for gamers, would make things so much easier =P who needs an auto-translater when ya got that? ^^ no more mix-ups... though its not gonna happen, but i can hope =)

and about JP players, almost every time i go into lower-jeuno, there is someone complaining about JPs, it kinda pisses me off because people may have 1 or 2 bad experiences with them, and then base a decision on the entire JP population based on those experiences, i myself have had my fair share of problems with them, but i also know that i have had great times with them.

just like amanada said, it takes compromise, and if you can manage that, then you will have one hell of a time.... usually..... =P

You will shocked by the amount of sterotyping, prejudgement, or generalization among people (regardless of issue). A lot of that come from stubborness, ignorance, unwilling to accept diversity.

Willing to accept diversity does not equate melting pot. Nor does the willing to accept means "Suck it up, I like it to do it my way and deal with it!" That is why I think that should or should not /check issue is so pointless. If someone does not liked to be checked (JP or not) then do not check him. If you do not know if someone that you do not know liked to be checked or not, just ask him/her first. Acceptance of difference and comprimising are more a courtesey thing, and the meaning of courtesey is not really that cultural dependent.

Uncomprimising ethics/values and generalization are one of the largest cause of conflict (in general) -- from trade of words between a JP and NA player, or even war in RL. The world is never black or white, and the preaching and practice of uncomprimising values is called being extreme and being a Frog in a Well. Isn't that a common fact that every part of the globe is different?

I actually like the international look of FFXI. That is one thing that keep me in the game. FFXI is the best thing I have right now on the internet that keep me in touch of my cultural roots without losing touch where I actually live right now.

Zaleshea, I completely understand how you feel. Sometimes this game is more painful than fun. When it gets to a point where you are not having fun anymore, you may just want to take a long break. Almost a month ago I decided to quit the game too. I gave away most of my stuff and deleted my char. After a few weeks, I started wondering about the friends that I had made throughout my run in FFXI. So I called up SE and got Reg back. When I got him back, I logged in, said hi to a few friends, then after a few minutes it was the same old thing again. Then I decided to take another long break. But this time I only deleted my content ID so I can come back if I want. I was thinking if I do come back, I might lvl my bard. I noticed our lvl's arent that far apart, maybe we can start a static or something. That would be fun for a change. Let me know if you are interested.

I am an American player and i havent encountered any racism in the game. I meet JPs that say "JP PT only" of course who doesnt? I know i did, and once you get into 60+ your invites will shoot up again. I am a 61rdm and i get invites from jp/american/euro pts but, i have encountered not a single bit of racism in the game. Like some others have said....Take a break i took a 2week break and got back on and finally felt better about the game. So think before you quit, you may make people wanna quit if you do.

I too have made it past that one year mark, and everytime I think of why I keep playing the same answer comes up, my friends. I no longer play just to see my Brd lvl, but I play so I can lvl with my friends that I've made on the way. Its a royal pain setting up linkshell events and setting up the static that my ranger is in, but during the static and during the linkshell events I have the most fun. I even lvl my brd with some linkshell people in a semi-static.

My suggestion is try to do some of the promyvion mission, then lvl up a bit and do some of the zilart missions. Maybe organize a static for your whm that meets once a week and consists of friends only. No people that won't take it seriously.
