When is enough enough?Follow

#1 Apr 21 2005 at 9:57 AM Rating: Decent
Well, I've had enough... it's obvious SE is under new management... or they went retarded over night some time 3 weeks ago. Sorry, there's just too much BS involved in this game now... it's almost as bad as SWG was when FFXI first was released. The economy is jacked up beyond all recognition... the connection is no longer even remotely reliable... and now they had the brilliance to release a download update while they're having the connection problems... I can understand POL errors on the night of the update when everyone is trying to get it... but at 7 am in the morning, before I go to work... I'm sure the amount of people trying to get the update at this point is a lot lower... yet still errors. Network congestion my ***! More like Network disconnect... I don't know what I'm going to play instead, all I know is, I'm not able to play FFXI now, I haven't been able to enjoy it nearly all month long...

Personally, I think it's time SE lost another 700-800 players, but this time on players free will as a result of a degrading half *** product. I can remotely understand SE is only trying to improve our game for us... but having emergency maintenance a couple times prior to a planned maintenance is rediculous... with all the maintenance, and the fact it's still not working... I don't know, I just find that sad. Well, I had to vent... and if any trolls wanna rate down or flame back, like I care... Hopefully these situations will be resolved soon, cause I really dunno how much windows solitare I can take..

I know it's frustrating but I'm sure they are doing everything they can about it. With the DDoS attacks, updates, and all the usual ******** that comes with regular updates I think it's time people stop being so ****** and take some time to think and empithise a little.

That's exactly my point... I just don't understand why they didn't postpone the update till the DDoS stuff was fixed. We know after every update we have normal congestion like we saw last night.. However, with the DDoS attacks, it's even worse... more people are unable to get the update and have to try again later. I wouldn't be surprised if half of cerberus is trying again tonight when I come home from work.

Oh yea, for the record, I tried once more after making this post (was hoping for a Murphy's law type deal... like when people have a pc expert "look at" their pc cause a program isn't working right... then it works and makes the other person look like a liar), and so far, my suspicions/hopes are solid... I got 180/485 files left (yea, I got some files between 5 different download attempts last night).

Nebz needs some waffles....... STAT.

Seriously, though, some how I got the download before the server came back up. Guess I was one of the lucky ones. You'll get it tonight and be back and eating waffles in no time. ^^

I do agree with Nebz that delaying the update may have been a better idea. At the same time if you delay a server/game system update because of script kiddies, you are sending a message to the kiddies that you are giving in to them -- something probably SE does not want to do either. That may further encourage more DDOS attacks.

SE system adminstrators and business managers may have considered delayed the update. Whether they do or do not, they decide to update POL/FFXI as scheduled -- it may have been a "wrong" decision, but it certain has some merits in doing so. If SE staff does have considered to delay the patch, it must have been a tough call -- they made a decision, and the deicsion did not work out.

Anyway, imo. I think script kiddies do not care if there is a system update. Regardless it is some disgruntled anti-social kid in a basement, or some some ultra-nationalistic Korean/Chinese geeks, they do not give s**t what SE is doing to their servers.

Couldn't do it last nite, so I went to bed, wake up this morning, signed in, went through a whole new registration process and voila 10 mns top for the download/install update and I was back in jeuno.

Hopefully everything will go back to normal now, since they changed the pol login setup that might probably prevent the DDos attacks in part and we might go back to less lag than usual.

Yea, and unfortunately, everyone posting about the server issues pushes SE to releasing public announcements regarding the DDoS attacks, which I think actually fuel the fire. It's kinda like those people who terrorize just for mass attention and headlines. These script kiddies now think they're cool cause they think they're winning cause SE has to make some sort of announcement. That tells the script kiddies that they are, infact, having an impact... and then they will continue. If everyone could manage to forget about the script kiddies and SE stopped releasing announcements, it may die itself out... However, I hope SE nails these bastards' balls to the walls cause they could probably nail them faster than it'd take for the ignorant basement script kiddies to realize they can't win and cease anywho.

BTW, when I left for work this AM, I had less than 100 files to download, so hopefully I can get to playing rdm tonight... cause I still don't know what else I'd do...

A lot of such complaining is related lack of patience and unwilling to see the other side of the story. A lot of people's reaction to they cannot play is they are being screwed and try to find someone to blame. Sometimes it is best to work and tolerate the situation (at least with some patience), and willing to work around the problem.

When you even watch TV or even presidental debates (Bush vs Kerry), there are so much negative thinking and negative advertising. Sometimes people need to think more positive, and do stuff that actually helps the situation instead of ranting. Sometimes what helps the situation is being simply being patient. I am sure it is hell for the system adminstrators in SE right now, but I am sure a lot players are thinking SE is trying to ***** them money, or their employee are not working hard enough for a solution. I work in a career that no solution or waiting is the only solution. A lot of people have to accept that is in fact the case.

If you are willing to think more positive, or think from the other side of the story, you will feel a lot better. Should there be a limit of patience? Yes. To me, that limit is still far. I have to have even more patience in my RL work than this.

PS: I am sure if I say this in the main forums, I will get trolled like hell ;p

Sometimes people should not rant or get angry about a game... I find myself getting angry about the game sometimes -- usually in players behaviors (power leveling, greed, people ******** around etc) not game play or techincal glitches.

People just need to chill. (I need to chill too ;p).

/cheer Amanada - I totally agree!!

The main reason I play this game is to relax - to unwind from the rigors of REAL life. Unfortunately many other people rant and get angry - which causes me to get angry and ruins the whole reason I want to play the game. So relax! Take a deep breath and do something FUN. You know - like try running from your home town to Jeuno as a lvl 1 job, or take that same level one job and see how far you can get into Molvalpolos! (I got about ten steps in maybe!) Or even - do some quests for FUN instead of trying to get the rewards. You never know - you might end up rich and FAMOUS! Which then allows you to get MORE quests, which gets you MORE money...
The only problem is this takes you away from leveling...so it works better if you've already put time into that...Dang - I can't even follow my OWN advice. Guess I'll go see if I can get past the update and get leveling!

Chill folks! Enjoy! And have a GREAT day!

Well I get trolled there. And I don't give a ****.

Thinking positive will get you bombed in the main forum. But just dont give a ****. Being passive = evil there, but just dont give a ****. Being smart will get your karma camped there, but just give a ****.

Anyway Krem just dont give a ****.(Yea I'm being silly) I know how SE is..they are going to give up fixing the DDoS problem(just as they ignore RMT as I suspected). However I think it would be wise if they don't do any major updates for a while.

I must say, your all kinds of awesome. ^_^

I too made a long rant, well not long but had the same thoughts about the situation. I did it somewhere but I completely empathize with how you feel. I was throwing things at the monitor I was so pissed. But I went one day without FFXI and realized it wasnt that big a deal. Certainly at the time I was extremely indifferent to SE. Afterall, we pay for the game and services to run smoothly. But these cant always run smooth. Updates were in the past as this one was yesterday and today....evil.

One thing I absolutely agree on is the fact that SE should not have stated they were under attack by DDoS. They could of simply said they had technical difficulties and blah blah blah. The way I see it is that they gave whomever did it the satisfaction that they're making things harder for others.

/em bops whoever did it over the head!

Anywho, I was able to get on today and play for a couple hours. I had alot of fun today and met some really nice players. In the end, I did as Amanada had suggested in her last post. I chilled out.... ^^

I got the update in like 20mins, no problems, not sure what everyones deal is, but my connection has been flawless for about 3 months now, even with the supposed hack thingy.

to address Nebz's rant:

enough is enough when you feel that you have neither the drive nor energy to put up with something anymore. in a relationship with SE, i would say that when you feel all that they've done (or not done) has pushed you past the brink and that you'd rather not deal with SE ever again. i.e. quit FFXI, for good.

however, given that you're still ranting about it, and i undeniably still see you in game, it's obvious that you just haven't reached that status.

for good or ill, i'll sympathize and say that we all need to let off steam once in awhile, and that it's truly a terrible effort to maintain a positive outlook when someone's down in the dumps. but just recall that there were good times too, and there quite possibly will be good times after (or is there?).

for myself, i was fortunate to have started the update an hour before the stated maintenance completion time. i entered the game with little more than a hiccup (i got my exam back the same day... and i blew it bad. >.>).

to address the spinoff issue:

in SE's position, i would not have delayed the release of the update. taking into consideration that there ARE script kiddies at work behind all the DDOS attacks, and also the assumption that it is not a more complex conspiracy, the greatest satisfaction that i would be give the script kiddies is the realization that their efforts WERE indeed undermining my business.

i refuse to believe that SE has been unable to curb some, if not all, the problems that the DDOS attacks have managed. that SE had to announce to everyone that there were successful attempts and that some of the connection problems were due to DDOS attacks, was already too much ground that SE had to acede(sp?) to them. to the script kiddies, any delay in the upcoming update would be seen as yet another victory, something that would undermine both the integrity of SE's network security, as well as potentially bolster the kiddies' efforts in their DDOS attacks.

whether or not the network security is undermined is not the issue here. it's SE's reputation that is important. and the more they show the kiddies' that their attempts do nothing to deter their business, the more accolade they would garner from their current customer base. for SE, having the update as scheduled, in light of the DDOS attacks, is a calculated risk (either that or a organizational folly).

anyone wanna hook up the breakfast goods today? I need a LOT more than just waffles.... /sigh

I've had it... after being d/c'd from the game last night to encounter the same error I'm still getting this morning... "Unable to connect to lobby server."

Ok... **** on this, I'm glad it's the end of the month because FINALLY, I can get somewhat of my month's worth of gaming and discontinue my account without paying for something I'm not going to use. I paid for April, I'm going to play thru April.. best I can anyways... I think if FFXI is still acting like this by Friday that I'll be cancelling my account and finding something else to pass the time for the next month. I may return in June if SE has their stuff together... or I might continue being endulged in whatever it is I leave the game for.

My poor plants. ;_; That's all I can say. 190k gil going down the drain because I haven't been able to log on in 3 days (I work nights, so I play in the morning). This is the reason why I play WoW, too. When one is down, the other is usually up.

Oh, and how about pancakes with syrup, bacon, eggs and toast, too? I know everyone loves Waffles, but don't forget about the others! They get lonely! >_>

Having the same problem as most over the last few days, I decided to call SE just to see what thier response to this connection problem was. I didnt even have to ask before the gentleman I was speaking with informed me that the DDOS attacks have been targeting the POL servers and not the Game servers, and that they are in the process of re-routing traffic for those experencing "technical difficulties" logging in. It seems that the atacker/attackers have been hitting them hard during NA morning to afternoon time. A simple solution for those who can would be to just leave your Character logged in, because they are attacking POL, not Game servers. I know not everyone can just leave thier PC logged into the Game but for those who can, it will by-pass the DDOS crap that has been affecting us all. It is unfortunate that these attackers has brought about the cancling of your account. I am sorry to see that we will be losing another one from our server.

I don't think it's just POL servers as I R0'd several times last night as well as was dropped out along with people in LS' belonging to players nearby at the time. Also, when I log into a mule, check my delivery box and log out, I get "Cannot connect to Lobby server." and then I get booted out of FFXI and into POL, which works fine. POL isn't my problem... it's connecting to the Lobby Servers and staying connected to the game servers.

I can't even connect to POL. I know alot of people are tired of rants but it is becomming very frustrating.

Yes, I could be doing many other things. Which I have done already. I/e Housework, read a book, played in the sandbox with the toddler until she passed out, etc. (I'm a housewife and mom by trade)

Now I am so frustrated that I am am "fighting" with POL just to log on. I am VERY determined to win this battle. If you like this game please don't give up on your friends in-game and your fun just because POL has retarded tendencies. Meh, do what I do... Laundry!! If you aren't very happy with how the game works, which I feel many are, then I understand why you want to leave.

Although, I hate to see any good person -Krem- leave the game. I do wish you all the luck and hope you find a wonderful outlet and have many wonderful adventures.

I guess I have been fortunate that I (tap, tap, knock on wood) have not had the R0 problem as many have had. I was only stating what the gentelman from POL stated. I dont know, and wouldnt even attempt to say that these issues are or are not related, but out of personal experence, once past the intial log-in process to POL my connection has been stable to say the least. I do believe that until you are all the way in the game you are on POL servers not game servers (ie..the message after selecting a character that stats conecting to server) for I have had the same isssue when checking mules myself. I know there is no consulation in my statement, other than to let you know that we are all suffering from the acts of a mental child. All i can say is dont let the acts of a few, destory the fun of the masses. Karma is a &*%#%, they will get there's in the end, eventually...

Hmmm, I have Comcast on the westcoast. Perhaps that is a problem also. I don't really know if they have been having problems since I haven't had any problems connecting. It could very well be a part of it.
