nins to overate or not to overateFollow

NIN is my secondary job and I find myself wishing that I didn't have to blink tank, because historically ninjas are shadow assassins. Meaning they fight without being seen. They would never be protecting a party by placing themselves directly in front of an enemy. A samurai would, but never a ninja. And I'm a huge fan of feudal Japan, so I like the concept of playing a NIN like a true ninja. Many of THF's attributes could easily be a NIN's, though it wouldn't be original. With the NIN spells though, especially the Ni spells, DMG can be much more significant. The elemental wheel can also be a helpful tool when utilized by a BLM.

No... Ninja were never assassins, they were mere spies. Although ninjutsu is composed of many arts all over Asia; there are no killing techniques in ninjutsu. In fact the Kuki family didn't get a branch of Kempo until the end of Bakumatsu-jidai.
Over 80% of Samurai were Ninja. At the beginning of the sengoku, ninutsu was highly utilized and popular at that time... Ninja were like the Japanese government, they kept close record of everything they did, and not one LEGIT historian can find were they were assassins.

I said "SE doesn't" as in present tense not past. (Not only is that interview you guys are quoting referring to the past tense, but the interview itself came out in january 2004. No one is questioning their original intentions, but some people are questioning their current intentions) Some people are saying the update that's coming is because SE doesn't recognize/want NINs to tank. This simply wouldn't make sense. Its not just 2 +enmity items - its almost every single new NIN item that comes out has enmity. Ever seen the Yasha set? Every single piece has +enmity and its NIN only straight up Blink Tanking gear no question about it. The list goes on and on.

Also, FYI SAM actually make good tanks. In a PT such as a arrowburn, BLM heavy, or any damage heavy PT where it might be hard for any tank to hold hate anyway, SAM actually make a wise choice with their +enmity, VIT, and def gear that they have available they can hold just enough hate and take low enough damage before the heavy hitters let lose to be very effective. They actually have a advantage in those types of PTs over PLD and NIN, in that they can start more SC's to facilitate even faster kills. Don't forget Third eye is a instant job ability that can be used quickly before the enemie's TP attack if the SAM is good. (Pugil readies scredriver ... SAM uses Third eye ... Pugils attack is absorbed by SAMs shadow)

So why aren't SAM tanks used more? Because there's already enough tank options, and also most SAM don't have full sets oof tanking gear. Try asking a SAM to tank, usually I get a response like "hey that actually sounds cool.... But I only really have DD gear." There are JP PT setups that use a SAM tank at higher levels. I tried to get a SAM tank a few times for this PT setup WAR RNG MNK RDM BLM (wanted sam tank to hold hate for a bit before the orgy of SC's and MB's but we went with just having the WAR tank) because PLD and NIN weren't really cutting it...
