Can someone explain to me why it seems like everyone on this blasted server hates monks?
I know for a fact that i do far more dmg (up to 3x) than DRK's, we won't even start on DRG's, more often than not I do more than the RNG, more than THF, and more than a large variety of BLM's, and still MNK is at the bottem of the barrel, please explain this one cuz i just dont get it.
It's like being the fat kid in school where everyone picks you last, except this fat kid could beat the crap out of you any day of the week.

It's because damage over time is invisible, and until you get to 65+, monk damage is high but not alarmingly high.

People see you hitting for 60-70 a punch, and a drk doing 90-100, or a rng 120. They dont do the math sadly, and are isntead easily won over by big numbers.

But the real killer to monk invites is a lack of distortion before 60. Many players were conditioned very early in the game to think that distortion is the best SC in the game, for any situation, any party, any mob lol. With or without black mages, they want to see a water WS on a pugil for 13 dmg...

The other killer is that bad monks are really bad. A bad rng is still effective in a party, but a bad monk gives us a really horrible reputation. Memories of ill-equipped monks hitting for 0 dmg in valk dunes seem to stick with some players well into their 50s lol.

I have no idea what level range you are in, but the 50-60 stretch is a well documented hell on the monk forum. They have group thereapy there waiting to help. Countless monks give up and quit after day 4 of LFG, but stick with it if you really care about the job. It is very rewarding in the 70s ^^

MNK isn't at the bottom of the barrel, it's one of the best DDing jobs, but don't get cocky and think MNK can out damage a BLM. It depends on the player, not the job.

ive been parsing all my parties just to see how well im doing (cuz like you said big numbers stand out and nobody wants to do math) and im always averaging the highest percent out of everyone, now im 60 and its been... 10 hrs today lfp and not one invite =/ lameness lol

Well it takes even me (BLM) That amount of time, there are few refreshers at our level to get good parties going. But like I said it's the player not the class. You do your hits for your 100 every sec I do 371 per cast, and 800 on MBs as you do on your SC. People are just picky and sometimes snobs.

people mostly dislike mnk because of all the crappy mnk they have seen, mnk is one of the jobs that needs to have good gear to be useful, and many mnk dont have good gear. even if your well equiped, most of the time people pass you over thinking your just another crappy mnk, thats one of the reasons i stopped leveling my mnk so many months ago.
being around lv60 will prob be pretty bad for you as mnk, cause most other jobs get big dmg WS which greatly increase their overall dmg around that level, and mnk really dont get anything really powerful around that lvl. the drk and rng you were slightly outdamaging are now using 700+ dmg WS instead of 200 dmg WS and people want to exploit that new dmg for supposidly faster xp. but once you get around 70 mnk pt on bones in KRT start to come, and it gets easier, just keep at it and dont give up on the job.

Posts like this make people dislike Monk.

While you have a valid point, you go about vocalizing it wrong.

You just sound arrogant and cocky, and people take that to heart.

Wait it out untill you get one good party, or god forbid you make your own, and impress the hell out of everyone that can see you in action.

Before I was forced into early retirement, I leveled so infrequantly, the people I were in Qufim with were 70+ or had quit while I was getting G1 done. I would get into a good party, impress someone, and they would invite me to their parties for another few levels, and then I would slow down again and start over.

It works.

Good Luck.
