Pirate Hunters Beware!Follow

Well, after the update, I decided I'd go from Buburimu Peninsula to Jeuno (and seeing as I wasn't WHM) I took the boat.

About 2 minutes into the boat ride, the pirate's ship came alongside us. So, I started summoning Carbuncle thinking to myself "Hehehe this'll be cake" Suddenly, as the pirates ran onto deck, I noticed one was wearing a Vermy Cloak...I though nothing of it, and began to attack the pirates.

After a few, I noticed one of the skeletons was bigger than the others, so I Checked it, Blackbeard's Strength is impossible to gauge!

I hesitated for a minute, and then thought "Why not? If I die at least its an experience" So I ordered Carbuncle to attack.

Boy was I in for a treat;

Blackbeard casts Sleepga II
Callista is asleep
Carbuncle is sleep
Blackbeard hits Carbuncle for 94 points of damage
(won't repeat above sentance)
Blackbeard defeats Carbuncle
Blackbeard hits Callista for 116 points of damage
(I started running around the ship at this point ¬_¬)
Blackbeard starts casting Thunder III (eep)
Callista takes 603 points of damage
Blackbeard defeats Callista
<Callista> S**T! <---in LS

Anyway, I'm guessing Blackbeard is a new NM?
So take care on the open seas! Arrrr (ok I suck at talking pirate, sue me)

I was riding the ferry when i logged out the day before the update, I logged in after the update only to have Silver Hook or some such cast sleepga 2 on me. I was then dumped on the docks of mhaura asleep never got a chance to see what it was as I hadn't fully loaded into the boat before I was transferred to the docks.

Road the boat about 6 more times that day and not only no pirates but I didn't get the Sea Horror either =(

So much for Sea Horror being the only threat.

O.o he hurt you Calli? Let's get him!

BTW, Ifrit is best avatar to fight skelly's IMO.. they seem to hate fire a lil more than light.

Minor thread jack for a moment.

A question for summoners since Nebz mentioned Ifrit doing more damage to skeletons...Does Ifrit do bludgeoning damage (he's hitting with his fists after all) or is it totally fire based?

The avatar's melee attacks are just melee attacks, only the Blood pacts do additional damage and have an elemental base. The melee attacks vary in damage and accuracy amung the avatars. I THINK the difference in the avatars is somewhat reflected by the elemental staff. Example, Fire staff has +4 STR, and Ifrit seems to have a lot of STR... Earth Staff adds VIT and Titan seems to be pretty resistant to melee attacks... Ramuh's another one with the DEX and crit. hits...

Back to topic, Ifrit can take out skellys (especially sorcerer skellys) quicker and easier than carby.. not to mention Burning Strike will do 3 fold (if not more) the damage of Poison Nails.

The only reason you'd use carby is cause he's free... cause the mp cost for carby while fighting the wights would be equivalent (still less) to that of Ifrit.. mainly because the duration of the fight. Carby will take nearly twice as long as Ifrit to defeat a skelly.

Well I only used Carbuncle because I didn't know about this pirate NM, otherwise I would have used Ifrit or something.

Still, death doesn't worry me, Its a new experience in my Vana'diel life ^^b
