I don't post here very often, although I check the forums alot, but I wanted to make a post here telling you about something that happened to me recently. I wanted to make a positive post about my experiences recently.
I've been playing ffxi for just over a year, my main job is whm which is just about to hit lvl 73, hopefully in the next few weeks. I have really enjoyed the road to 73, have had alot of fun, and made alot of friends. I come from England which with the time difference can sometimes make it difficult to get parties, and to get things such as prommys and God fights done. Recently I had been feeling a bit bored in game, and hadn't really been able to settle to xping, although I had been skilling up alot with a friend which I really enjoyed.
Anyway to get to the point, in the last two weeks one of my real life friends has started to play ffxi, and myself and 4 others have decided to start a low level static party with him. I have decided to level thief and so far am having lots of fun with it. But the other thing I have really enjoyed is going with my friend to places that I have visited time after time, and seen his excitement when he gets there. It makes you look at the game through different eyes.
The reason I wrote this was to say if you are finding parts of the game tedious, or you've had enough for xping then take some time to enjoy other things in game, whether its leveling a low level character, crafting, or just visiting somewhere you didn't visit before. Its well worth it, and its good to remind yourself of the different aspects of ffxi. Above all remember it is a game and it's there to be enjoyed.

I know what you mean, although my rng is only 51 I too am a little bored (xp)and due to my work and family I usually only get to play during Japan time(prime)

heh so this is what i have to look forward too soon^
I have 2 friends that are going to be buying FFXI when 360 comes out and basically im gonna do all the wrong things and power level thier asses like crazy ><
should be fun though since ive never known anyone in RL in the game before

Hihi Neleh! Dun forget that you may be PL'd by some random person again. LOL. I've thought about redoing my FFXI career, but i have no RL friends that are just joining. ;_; Ah wellz, just remember, that when 360 comes out, there won't be just more friends (and mebbe RL friends) comin in. There will be more lil' n00blets to be evolved. ><

Hehe thanks guys! I think I have the urge to level my white mage again this weekend. Loving thief, its alot of fun, I think I might have to take a melee job all the way. Not going to get obsessed with xping again though ^_^

I can totally relate to what you are saying, I was in the exact same situation several months ago. My main at the time was BLM 68. FFXI had become more like a part-time job for me, and less like fun. I was really wrapped up in my SP and a lot of end-game stuff. I was pretty much on FFXI anytime I was not at work. It got to the point where I was really burnt out, and decided that I needed a break.
I originally quit with no intentions of ever coming back. However, after 3 or 4 months, I was really missing the people that I played with, as well as the game. I talked to a good friend of mine (IRL) that quit the game long before I did, and he was missing it too. Long story short, we both decided to make a comeback.
Upon returning, I switched to a level 1 job so that we could party together. It’s been great since returning. We party together all of the time, and the game is now fun to me again. Another one of our RL friends just started as well, and it’s been a blast helping with stuff like sub-job items, Kazham keys, etc… It feels really good to help people out, and it’s great to see the excitement that they get out of new FFXI experiences.
I’m still playing my BLM as well, although I’m not as hardcore about leveling as I was before. I’m 71 now, and content. I’m sure that I’ll be 75 in the near future, but it’s not a race to the finish like it was before.
