Anyone in need of these things? I'm about to start leveling on them and I'm going to have WAY too many of them.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I can try to cut a deal on them. I'm probably going to NPC them otherwise.

Yep that's what they're for. A lot of weapons are Added Effect: Wind damage with fan equipped. You put these in your ammo slot (I think, might be offhand slot) and it uses one up when the add effect kicks in. I'll see if I can find a link to one of the weapons for an example.

Edit: Here's and example for you Wind Katana

They stack to 99. LoL. When the added effect doesn't go off on every swing the stack tends to last quite a while.

I played around with Kilo pumps, the water version of the fan. I was actually quite impressed.

They are kind of like weapons with "added effect: wind damage" except they trigger more often and for FAR more damage.

With my kilo pumps they added +30-40 dmg per punch (for a monk who hits for 30-50 in the low-mid level range that is significant). I have heard the damage is constant on them, so on a heavier hitting 2-handed weapon you still get around +30 dmg added, so it doesnt seems as drastic.

I never tried the mega series of pump/fan/battery, but heard the dmg was like +50-70. The scary thing is that if these triggered just a little bit more often they would one of the best DoT weapons in the game.

But for now their only real use is on melee resistant mobs like slimes and elementals, or extremely high defense mobs. The damage they add is constant so the added elemental dmg will easily surpass your weapon base dmg.

Yeah mega pumps are next. LoL. I'm thinking I might try some of these while leveling my NIN with that wind based katana. Maybe it will shock some people into buying them. :-D

I do my own advertising. :-b "I use my product so you should too!"
