SE should make them take tests before they allow them to play. Why can you never find a good pt in the dunes? You have to pt there, so why?

I am not a bad tank. I will die for the mages any day, but I'll be damned if they are just gonna stand around and watch me do it. I left a pt today because of this... told me I don't know how to tank... wtf ever. If you don't know how the game works... learn!! or don't play. But don't tell me I'm not a good tank because i don't wanna lose xp because you are stupid. And another thing, War, nin, pld are not DD... s why do you expect us to be... we focus on def and vit.... not Atk and str... get over it. I buy armor before weapons... you want a dd, go get a thf, or mnk, or drk or something else. Stupid, you don't need 4 war in a pt...

Ugh!!! I'm so mad... this is why ppl leave the game for something easier like WOW.

OK, i think I got it out of my system...
And please correct me if you think i'm wrong.

Dunes has sucked since the beginning of this game.

Two words: Power Level. After awhile they will become accustomed to standing around and doing nothing. Typically the average new player, especially having not been brought up by a veteran player(like myself) don't really learn the game(let alone take it seriously) until they reach Garliage Citadel.

In terms of the learning curve, I don't know which is easier to grasp, melee or mage, I've been one all my days just about. But with a mage, you have to learn really early.

Ummm... NIN is an awesome DD if geared properly, and WAR... lol, tell a high level WAR that he isn't a DD, and see what he tells you.

And he'd tell you, he has done 2,000 damage with Raging Rush.

Spoken like a new player. If you feel "teh d00nz" is the only place to level from 10-20, then your new yourself. Yes, it's easier- especially if your on at infrequent hours as I am. But it's not the end-all-be-all of leveling past 10.

As for dealing with new players, talk to them. Tell them what they're doing wrong- nicely. I usually do it over /tell as to not "call them out". Now more often than not they'll give me the "I know I'm a level 75 Whatever on server X" then I'll apologize and if they keep ******** up, I suggest they go back to server X.

If they are new and open to suggestions, they will welcome them gladly. Just like anything else in life, if you correct someone before they develop bad habits then they won't know any better. I'm finding more and more people in Crawler's Nest and Altepa making very elementry mistakes. Most of the time it's because they're idiots, but occasionally I get someone who "didn't know" and "always did it like that" because people would rather vent on these forums or to their ls than try and explain things politely and quietly to a new player. Yes, I'm just as guilty as the next man, so I can't point fingers. But let's all agree to collectively be a bit more patient with new players and maybe the next "crop" of FFXI addicts won't suck so much.

Remember, we were all new players once- and in many ways, I still consider myself new.

1-12 Solo

12-14 Maze of Shakrami

14-20 Korroloka Tunnel

Now you never have to see the dunes again.

I agree with all of you. I know that war and nin can be dd, but at lower levels they are more suited for tanking. and I do agree that there are other places to level other than the dunes at that level.... but it is so hard to find a pt there or that is willing to go there.

I have tried talking to the new players and explaining to them how things work and tried to explain their roles.... they don't want to listen. I guess when they get up to the higher levels and nobody wants to pt with them they will have to learn.

I thank you for your responses and I will definately start looking for parties in those other places.

I am not a NEWB though.... :)

Yea I remember meeting a kitty WHM in Nest that had /s callouts on her macros. She was being nice and curing people who needed it while she tried to get a party. These people were downright ******** to her about her callouts. I /t her that she really should do away with them, she says "but I need them to know I hit the right macro". Unlike the other jerks I taught her how to use /echo and /recast in her macros. She said that 2 parties had kicked her for he callouts.... kicked a WHM because of a macro, yea...

Why do not people teach her to use something else instead of just kick and trade of war of words... That is what I would do...

More (since someone mentioned power level):

I think it is a fun to learn the game mechanics well -- that include basic party strategy, money making etc. It is fun to even teach people how to do it.

Instead of calling names about someone /sh in a macro, tell that person whatels to do; instead of power level in the Dunes, teach people to provoke and make cure macros; instead calling someone you noob with rubbish gear, do not come PT gimp yourself.

It is easy to blame others first and not on oneself. And it is best to act in a way for the common good, and that pay off in the long term with everyone end up a winner -- that is a common fact in game or real life. Too bad people want to advance more, and do things for short term personal gain instead of thinking long term. I am not going to start the debate about: We > you or I > we or human greed type argument. You know where I stand in that.

If I'm going to dunes to level, I assemble the pt from friends before I go.

Generally, however, I like to go to the dunes and level jobs to help mold these players. You'd be amazed how many of them want to learn. It's all about how you bring it across to them, most of the time. You will have those "I know what I'm doing" people and there's just nothing you can do about it. This is, however, a lot of player's first shot at partying. They will need guidance. Take the time to help them, it will benefit everyone in the long run.

WARs and NINs can be DD at that level also. A WAR swinging a GAX will do good dmg and a NIN using his ele wheel and throwing shurikens (not likely to find this granted) will do well also. One of the strongest early WSes is Sturmwind. Granted you won't see that in the dunes (I don't think) but still.

yea Leet, As a low level Nin, to do some nice dmg you must have the shurikans.

with throwing capped at lvl 30 my melee was doin u know around 18-22 average dmg. Throwing the shurikans were hitting for 55-65 and i most always could keep the hate on me well.

They were doin as much as my Blade Retsu: as for a war. I still like one to use GA instead of axes, dunno just me.
