Ok, so just like half of our server, I have decided to lvl blm to 75. I have been looking at the blm af pieces and really I'm only impressed with 2 pieces. The gloves for the + elemental magic, and the hat for the + thunder element and int. I'm trying to get a shamans cloak for body, and that should get me by till I can wear a black cloak. At 62 I can wear my rse2 for hands and feet {great mp and int for elvan} And for pants, I can use my druids slops. So am I really going to be missing out all that much on anything by going this route instead of getting all the AF?

When I play BLM, I use all AF. I have a Shaman Cloak, but I only use it occasionally. The reason is that I am a fan of -Enmity. I love to cast (Shimmer can tell you that ;3) when I play any mage job, and hence hate control is a concern. I want to be able to cast more. /sigh I still remember SPed with some friends (NIN and RNG and I am BLM), I try to match RNG damage (that is before they change RNG damage and ranging, my NIN friend was not too happy XD

Shaman Cloak or RSE does not offer -Enmity to my liking. It is all a taste thing. One thing that is good in getting all AF is to be able to use the storage NPC... That is like one of the best addition that is ever added in the game.

That is the one thing, and only reson why I keep sitting in my mh getting rdm ready to go key hunting. The -enmity is a huge thing. -{sigh}- I'm going to have to keep pondering this. Thanks for the reply amanada, your reply just confirmed what I keep on thinking. I'm just ganna have to get it and swap around with gear to see what hits the best.

Getting ahead: When you look at the Iq. Weskit set and compare to AF2, both are deisnged for very different purpose. Iq. set is designed for damage, while AF2 is for hate control.

Ideally, for every mid-end gear armour set you get, it is best to swap according to situation. I use different gear in 70+ exp pts (mp, accuracy), Dynamis (surival), and Sky (hate control, accuracy).

You were very lucky in that Leet. You have been like Dynamis like 2-3 months (?) and able to get so many AF2...

Yeah I was lucky in Ion to be able to get 2 pieces of AF2. We got 2x AF pants in one run of Sandy. LoL. I actually got my first piece of AF2 (gloves) on my first ever Dynamis. O.o

I guess I've just been lucky because the 2 HNMLSes I've been a part of have been really short on MNKs. I've been really fortunate as far as gear drops go.

I would highly recommend questing all of your BLM AF. Although only situational, the body and leg pieces come in very handy. Here’s what they offer:

Wizard's Coat
Def: 38
MP: 16
VIT: 5
Enmity: -3
Enfeebling Magic Skill: 10

Wizard's Tonban
Def: 27
MP: 14
Evasion: 5
Dark Magic Skill: 15
Enmity: -1

I keep my Wizard’s Coat and Wizard’s Tonban on me at all times. I have the coat macroed into all of my Enfeebling Magic spells, and the pants macroed into all of my Dark Magic spells. There aren’t any other pieces of gear, for their respective slots, that offer that much + Enfeebling or Dark magic. Also, the –Enmity is never bad for a BLM.

and the hat for the + thunder element

Why would you need the Thunder element? The hat is worn for the INT -Emnity and MP
