I don't expect there to be much variation in what people think is the mannerly use of a cell phone, but still it's a topic of discussion. I always give precedence to the person staring me in the face as I'm easily intimidated. Generally speaking I'd not take a call during a meal or a face-to-face encounter with other humans. No one ever calls me though, so I don't have to make the difficult choice. Also, I don't have a smart phone.
This guy invented a beer cup, The Offline Glass, that requires your smart phone laying flat on the table for it to stand up. If you want to use your phone your glass will be unsupported.
Good idea or potentially wasted beer?
