I had type 3 paragraphs on neighborhoods in Baltimore and transportation and then accidentally deleted it. The better the
neighborhoods the less public
transportation, since rich people don't need it and don't want poor folks coming in and maybe stealing their good silver spoons. When my ex needed to take bus to Ft Meade, we used the MTA site to decided on where to move to and still not live in Greenmount East.
Paul would most likely be willing to give you a guided tour of the city. We live in Irvington, which is an okay neighborhood as long as you stay on the good side of the local drug dealers. If fact you can live just about anywhere in the country, I find as long as you don't **** off the local drug dealers.
You really should look into Roland Park if you want the best public school in the city for Thorn. It beats having to try to get him transferred to Roland Park Elem/Middle School. Barclay Elem was good when my kids went there, but I can't say how it is now. Johns Hopkins Grad students tend to live in the district, so it was nearly as good as Roland Park, when I sent my daughters there.
If I could afford to live anywhere in the City, it would be in Charles Village at 2819 Guilford Ave. That's my parents old house that they remodel to be my dream home. Sadly it's no longer for sale but the neighborhood is my favorite. Outside of the city I would love to live in Columbia Md again, but only public transportation to and from the city are commuter buses. Columbia is in Howard Co, with the best public schools in the state other then a few just outside of DC. There are plaaces in Baltimore Co outside the city with good public transportation and I would check into them, but be careful about the schools. I like Towson / Parkville area for the stores and mall and the school my grand kids went to in Parkville seem good.
