I am afraid to respond to this thread, because odds are anything I can put together now would more of a rambling than usual. I am sad this happened. I am not, however, that surprised. This post was initially going to be a part of the response to Joph in another thread, but this is a better spot for it.
First off, I am impressed, shocked, and horrified at blowing an assailant up at the same time. I was under general impression that explosives are mostly not available to regular cops and usually reserved for specialized teams like swat ( correct me as needed, I honestly do not know ). I am not sure we are ready for grenade launchers, rocket launches and ieds on our streets, which brings me to the next point.
No, not the militarization of the police; that horse has left the stables long time ago. I am talking about lack of punishment. I am talking about breaking of the fabric of society. No, I am not being overly dramatic. What you are seeing in front of you too many people noticing at the same time that the system is failing them, big time ( yes, that includes HRC ). And when enough people see system fail them, there are only few options for them.
Luckily for us, due to decades us indoctrination and regular doses of propaganda, the cultural myths in the US revolve around lone, self-sufficient, strong, ranger type, who does what has to be done, outside the system if necessary, against all odds, against the whole world if need be. Basically, Batman. It would be easy to argue that it started with the declaration of independence, but I honestly do not think it was nearly as bad until movies became a thing as they reinforced this particular mythos over and over and over again. In the olden times it was John Wayne with two million billion movies about the same thing. Now we have John Wick.
From early childhood kids are bombarded with ideas to take law unto themselves when the system fails them, and now somehow we are surprised? I am only surprised it is only happening now. It is ******* scary as hell, because it means US society is beginning to collapse. And why?
Because cops like the ones Minn. will get off scot free, because HRC will get off scot free, because the system is fundamentally broken.
Nietsche argued that the reason we moved to a judicial system we have today was, and I paraphrase, so that we do not have to deal with constant vendettas and because there was too much blood spilled each time someone pissed someone else off.
At this rate, we may be on the way back to the good old times where aristocracy took care of their squabbles the old fashioned way.
Like I said, rambling.
