Did you ever have a pencil that was just perfect? Wrote perfectly, was the perfect size so your lead won't break, and for some reason you seem incapable of loosing it like all other pencils.
My pencil was beautiful, it was a Staedtler Mechanical Drafting pencil .5 lead, it came in a set I got from a friend for my 17th birthday. The damn thing was indestructible also, I have accidentally rolled over it, had it spend days at the bottom of my book bag getting smashed, a few times I have even fallen with all my weight onto the thing and EVERY damn time it worked perfectly.
I had it for a year and a half, never had a problem with it, never had it go missing for more then a week before it magically turned up again, on the flip side I have bought 20 sharpies in the last two years and I will be damned if I can locate one of them.
It was my lucky pencil, I have been using it almost exclusively for a year and a half and only had to replace the lead twice, like I said it responds perfectly to how hard I press when I write. It's brothers that came with it are all @#%$, the .3 lead breaks every 5 seconds and the .7 lead is to thick and my letters all blend together when I write (I write small).
My wonderful life of pencil bliss came to a crashing halt yesterday when somebody at the library decided THEY wanted a lucky pencil and would do anything to get it.
I had gone to shelve a book and grab another on making topography maps. When I left my pencil sitting with my bag of stuff, when I returned, it was gone, vanished, I searched everywhere in a 5 foot radius of where I was sitting. I emptied all the garbage out of my bag, I retraced my steps a hundred times. But it was all for not, the pencil is gone, lost forever to some piece of @#%$ @#%$ who will NEVER appreciate the perfection of that pencil. Even if I thought it was going to a good home I wouldn’t be as sad, but I know it is retting in some @#%$ heads ear at this very moment.
I suppose I will end up purchasing another, because no other pencil will do, but damn it, I miss MY pencil.
