Gee. This all looks like stuff a centrist candidate who's "above race" would commit his life to. Certainly, no one should have *any* concerns about Obama's positions on race at all, right?
What might those concerns be? I'd really like to know. What's the worst case scenario, in your mind. The 1% chance of him enacting a policy on race that would be the worst?
It calls to question his entire stated position on the issue Smash. When his campaign says he's "above race", finding out that he's attended a church for 20 years that has (among others) the stated value to "Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System" should put huge warning flares up in most sane people's minds.
As an exercise in racial awareness, replace all instances of "black" in those 12 points with the word "white" and tell me exactly how far a political candidate would get if he'd attended a church with those posted values.
I thought the whole "ending racism" thing meant treating people the same regardless of skin color? Aren't we supposed to judge people by the "content of their character" and not the "color of their skin"? Strange set of values then, wouldn't you agree? And if you are ok with it, but not if Obama were white with a set of similar "white" values, aren't *you* being racist (treating him differently because of the color of his skin)?
I think so. And if we judge Obama by the "content of his character", we're left with a man who claims one thing to advance his political career, while pledging to something completely different in his private life. If you don't think that's significant, then you are far more politically blind then I already think you are...
