But a .torrent is forever.

That's what they used to say about .tapes
I destroyed so many of those.

I wish someone would make me a mixed tape. It's been at least 14 years since the last one.
Ah, the good old days of hitting the record button, listening to a bit of DJ talk after each song, and bobby pins to fix the things.

Has the concept of the mix tape as a dating ritual just died? I assume there were mix CDs for a short period but now...? "Here, put these .mp3s on your iPod and listen to 'em in this order"?

A pity. A good mix tape, perfectly timed so you caught all the songs with short pauses in between and without 10 minutes of dead air at the end was a thing of romantic beauty.

I especially liked the ones where they held the tape recorder up to a speaker.

I actually made a mixed tape for a girl I was dating not long ago.

Her response?

...I don't have a tape player anymore, how am I supposed to listen to this? Couldn't you have just made me an MP3 playlist instead? Or even a CD?

Great. Since I re-read this thread, in which I mentioned my wife's Friends set, when you post this, all I can think of is the episode where Chandler gives Monica, as an anniversary present, the mixed tape that Janice gave him.

And, as an addendum to the topic, we still need to get a few more Cd binders for our DVDs.

We still have all our DVDs in the same cardboard box. If we move to the house we're trying to buy, we'll finally have room to display them next to the TV or something.

At this point you've already come up with your solution but I've finally gone the HTPC route. Now all the DVD's are in boxes in the garage and all the movies are on the PC hooked up to the HDTV. It's not solving the clutter but it is getting it out of the house and into more efficient storage. Our next step is trying to cut our ties to cable and stream directly to the HTPC.
