Looks like he lost. There's gotta be an SNL sketch in there somewhere. I'm sure his sappy nice-guy character, Stuart Smalley, would have something placating to say to him right about now.

I didn't even know he was running until they mentioned it on CNN last night.

He hasn't lost; at least not yet. He's literally neck and neck with Coleman, behind by less than a thousand votes with almost three million votes cast.

I was fan of his radio show before he left to run for the Senate. He's a really bright guy for whom I have much respect. It wasn't until I started listening to him that I really became interested in politics.

I've decided I dislike the term "uncalling" as in, "The Associated Press is uncalling the Minnesota Senate race."

It sounds ominous.

And firefox doesn't think it's a word.

This is the race that kept me up until 1:30, when it was obvious it was going to be close enough to trigger MN's automatic recount threshold.

If past Minnesota recounts are any indicator, don't expect an official call on this race for at least 2 weeks.

Coleman will probably sue somebody about it in the meantime.

After finding some more unreported votes favoring Franken, the difference between the two is now 236 votes. Missing votes include someone who dropped the "1" in "124" when entering Franken's votes and another town which just never called in their results (Franken led 343-152). They're going to have to do a hand recount of the entire state.

The recount will also include things like absentee ballots and provisional ballots. There's no way to say who has won. Of course Norm Coleman keeps suggesting that Franken concede now. So far Franken's response has been, in effect, "yeah, whatever, Norm".

I will giggle for a week if Franken wins.

Funny that this is still going on but the latest court ruling has predictably greatly favored Franken. Out of the many ballots Coleman wanted counted, only a handful were ruled to be eligible for examination (not even guaranteeing that they'll be counted) and a sizable number of those come from districts that went heavily for Big Al.

I'm sure Limbaugh will have a grand ole time saying "Senator Al Franken".

The recount was mandated by MN state law.

Although, yeah, I am loving this recount.

I hate recounts. I want revotes. For large elections, if the margin of difference is less then about 2-3 times the square root of the number of votes the leader has, they should revote.

Example, if the leader has 450,000 votes, the margin should be at least 1342 votes (2 times root N).

It won't occur often and one revote should be enough to get a decisive winner. It's just an acknowledgment that people make mistakes.

The courts just counted the accepted ballots. Franken has expanded his lead to 312 votes.

Next stop, Coleman cries to the MN Supreme Court!
