Well, I am not sure what will happen but the bad sentiment this will raise is surely not what the Iranian government needs when it has a US president willing to engage in talks with them. The problem both sides have now is that neither side can afford to lose face. The Iranians cannot backtrack the sentence without looking foolish and the Americans cannot let her rot in a jail for 8 years for a non-crime. I'm hoping they reduce her sentence to her time served and let her free.
The worst part in all this is that because of the disgraceful treatment of prisoners without trial in Guatanamo bay and rendition flights, the US cannot hold its head high and claim a moral higher ground. At least the Iranians gave her a trial and can claim they followed their own laws (even if it is a politically based judgement).
And just because I'm replying to Totem .. I wonder what Saint Obama will do about this
