You are dying because you have developed a condition in your heart which cannot be cured. You will die, leaving your family without a mother/father.

There is a donor heart available but it comes from a convicted murderer who died that day. Do you take it?

I ask as this article raised the question. Having seen some evidence that throws forward the idea that recipients of donors hearts gain their donors traits and memories, I do wonder if I would think twice.

Please explain. Traits related to the organ? Sure. Memories? What? My dad had two kidney transplants and it didn't really affect him too much. What this sounds like is someone knowing the past of their donor and simply hallucinating (making false memories or scenarios) after the surgery because of the pain killers and immunosuppressants. Because of the vividness of these thoughts, they are 'real'.

I'd take it. I don't buy into the paranoia. If anything, it'd at least make for an interesting court case. "It wasn't me, your honor, it was my liver that made me kill that school full of kindergartners."

I watched this a while ago. There was a woman who started craving particular foods after her heart transplant. She started enquiring and eventually found out that the food she was craving, was the food that her donor had bought before his death. She had no previous knowledge of the man.

I think it's bullshit. It could have been something along the lines of the heart being in a persons body with a protein deficiency or something else. The body craved it (because the heart did) and the donor simply went for the most common food available.

I wouldn't take a murderer's heart for the same reason I would take transplant muscles from a recently paralyzed man. I don't want to catch paraplegia, and I certainly don't want to get infected with murderitis. Think about it, would you wear a wig made from cancer patient hair?

If I was in need of a heart and they had a match then I wouldn't hestitate to take it, or ask any questions to where it was coming from.

I'd take it, in a heartbeat . If I die because I refuse it, then thats another death he could add to his tally .

I don't believe people take on traits from donated organs - the logic doesn't fit with me . EVEN if it is true that it can happen, I like to think my own personality and behaviour would be the stronger factor in my decisions .

I was just curious. This board has some really irrational people when it comes to gay marriage and the like so I was wondering if that extended to such topics as transplantation.

Considering that the heart of someone who took a life can now save a life, I'd do it without thinking twice about it.

All the better if said murderer's religion is against organ donation and he forgot to let the warden know that. Karmic justice ftw.
