Obama fires Inspector GeneralFollow

#1 Jun 12 2009 at 8:44 AM Rating: Sub-Default
Who incidentally was investigating a donor of Obama's; Kevin Johnson.

Now I want to see you people that b*tched about Gonzales' firings to raise the same fuss.

Political cronyism and corruption at it's worst.

Walpin was criticized by the acting U.S. attorney in Sacramento for the way he handled an investigation of Johnson and St. HOPE Academy, a nonprofit group that received hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The corporation runs the AmeriCorps program.

"It is vital that I have the fullest confidence in the appointees serving as inspectors general," Obama said in a letter Thursday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Joe Biden, who also serves as president of the Senate. "That is no longer the case with regard to this inspector general."

...

Alan Solomont, a Democrat and the board chairman of the government-run corporation, and Stephen Goldsmith, a Republican and the board's vice chair, said they strongly endorsed Obama's decision.

And thank you for linking the news source.

Yeah, and weren't Republicans the ones saying that, "All these attorneys serve at the pleasure of the president!"

I'm wondering what exactly he did that was so bad. I'll withhold judgment until more details come out.

Varrus, I hate to be the one to say it, but I think you're infatuated. "In love", even.

It's time to face the fact you want some black sausage in your pie-exit-hole.

Walpin refused to follow 'teh Agenda'. Not only that, but he was a Bush appointee.

KJ didn't even win a championship.

So none of those dealers were bankrupt? I just want to check.

Here ya go;

Evidence appears to be mounting that the Obama administration has systematically targeted for closing Chrysler dealers who contributed to Repubicans. What started earlier this week as mainly a rumbling on the Right side of the Blogosphere has gathered some steam today with revelations that among the dealers being shut down are a GOP congressman and closing of competitors to a dealership chain partly owned by former Clinton White House chief of staff Mack McLarty.
The basic issue raised here is this: How do we account for the fact millions of dollars were contributed to GOP candidates by Chrysler who are being closed by the government, but only one has been found so far that is being closed that contributed to the Obama campaign in 2008?

What a surprise the MSM isn't covering this.

Uh... so I was right? Chrysler went bankrupt, and its dealerships (well, 25% of them) are closing.

Here's a nice quote from the selection as well:
Quote:
"It shouldn't be any surprise, by the way, that car dealers tend to vote -- and donate -- Republican. They are usually male, they are usually older (you don't own an auto dealership in your 20s), and they have obvious reasons to be pro-business, pro-tax cut, anti-green energy and anti-labor. Car dealerships need quite a bit of space and will tend to be located in suburban or rural areas. I can't think of too many other occupations that are more natural fits for the Republican Party. Unfortunately, while we are still a nation of drivers, we are not a nation of dealers."

Also, amazingly, I didn't see a single cite for inflamed remarks like
Quote:
(T)he argument for closure has nothing to do with whether any particular dealership is profitable, but whether it is one more than somebody thinks Chrysler or GM should have in order to spread sales like Toyota does it.

There was no source to back this up. I'm wondering if you might have linked to a right-biased site? Huh.
Quote:
When the Examiner launched in late 2005, Washington City Paper writers Erik Wemple and Jeff Horwitz surveyed Washington, D.C. neighborhoods and discovered that free home delivery of the Examiner occurred in exclusively white, affluent neighborhoods, while "majority-black neighborhoods are lucky to get even spotty service."

Fascinating.

Edit: Ooo, and apparently the owner is a fervent gospel-education movie donator and Republican party donator, and has supported causes and websites against gay marriage, homosexuality in the media, single parent households, and abortion. Yup, gotta love that unbiased media coverage.

Wait, I think I see something right before the article. What does that word say? Let me get a closer look. Oh, wait!

Opinion

Do you know why this is an opinion article? Because there is no proof that it's a systematic, targeted shut down of Republican dealers.

Quote:
A more likely explanation is simply the fact that more Chrysler dealers in general are likely to be Republican contributors, which would mean more of the closed dealers would be seen to be GOP supporters than Democrat supporters: "My hypothesis is that Chrysler dealers, being small businessmen, are more likely to donate to Republicans than Democrats, for predictable reasons. Like any small businessmen, car dealers want lower taxes, a lower minimum wage, fewer regulations, etc."

I'm willing to bet that the bulk of dealers that support the Republicans are likely to enjoy their trucks and large vehicles. Those are going to be the exact dealers that are performing poorly in the new auto industry climate. Not to mention the fact that the bulk of dealers are conservative to begin with.

I spent 14 years working for dealers, every one I met was quite conservative. You couldn't close dealers and NOT be targeting Republicans.

A meme that is currently picking up traction in the conservative blogosphere is that the list of dealerships to be shuttered as a result of Chrysler's bankruptcy contains a disproportionate number donors to Republican candidates. There have been furious efforts to prove this contention by looking up campaign contributor lists at the Huffington Post, Open Secrets, and other places.

There is just one problem with this theory. Nobody has bothered to look up data for the control group: the list of dealerships which aren't being closed. It turns out that all car dealers are, in fact, overwhelmingly more likely to donate to Republicans than to Democrats -- not just those who are having their doors closed.
[...]
Overall, 88 percent of the contributions from car dealers went to Republican candidates and just 12 percent to Democratic candidates. By comparison, the list of dealers on Doug Ross's list (which I haven't vetted, but I assume is fine) gave 92 percent of their money to Republicans -- not really a significant difference.

There's no conspiracy here, folks -- just some bad math.

Don't you think dealership owners are capable of determining whether or not they are profitable? This is a news story that's being completely ignored and you people are blowing it off because your messiah is the one behind it.

So that opinion article was just a bunch of inane babbling about an issue the author knew nothing about because he hadn't investigated it at all?

That was a dumb source then. You should try harder.

Once again virus you show us how you are a shill for the far right and rather listen to their opinion then actual facts.

So the dealerships are being closed not because they are losing money, but due to the fact that they are too close together.Smiley: schooled See also Joph's quote from Fivethirtyeight.com.

Makes sense that some should be closed so the remaining ones can get more sales. Cuts down on having several GM dealerships in easy driving distance to each other. I know here in Maryland one can go car shopping in several towns not that far apart that each has 3 or more GM dealerships along the main drags.
