Given the tendency of people to ignore the big picture for how they feel today it's hardly surprising that when Obama didn't do the impossible and immediately cure the economy his approval ratings would subside somewhat. What's your point?

looking at the graph it's been pretty steady since march.

"Strongly Approve" vs "Strongly Disapprove"? Where's "approve" and "disapprove" in the equation?

Gallup is using only approve/disapprove to inadvertently paint the picture in a different frame, for those who care to be thorough:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/gallup-daily-obama-job-approval.aspx

So yes, the number of strongly disapproving people is going up and the number of strongly approving people is going down. Overall, the level of disapproval is going up, and the level of approval is very slightly starting to slack.

These are for you, varus. Have a ball.

People have been spouting crap about how the "honeymoon phase" is over for months now. Honeymoons last a week usually, anyway, what gives?

If a pollster asked me if I approved of obama right now I'd have to be on the fence anyway, or even slight disapproval if I was feeling frisky, but not at all for the reason that you might be.

This. A slight increase in disapproval of any form doesn't really show anything other than "Oh, people don't like Obama for what he did recently." If you want to show that people don't like Obama, you'd need a constant level of higher disapproval than approval. You don't have that.

That too, but it is kind of a consistent thing. I was more getting at that there's only one way to approve of the president. For disapproval, there are at least two ways: "zomg he's a socialist!" versus. "so obama, when are you gonna start with the socialism huh?"

Rasmussen's approval data has been consistantly lower than anyone else's by a significant degree but it's not really a point worth arguing.

Whats most funny about this thread is that I've only really seen varrus, totem and Gbaji ever make a thread about polls, except possibly during the height of the election.

You do realize the polls haven't significantly changed since march. At least according to the graph you linked.

The economy not being instantly fixed will tend to lower approval ratings, yep.

I mentioned polling during the election. But election polling is a somewhat different animal. For one thing, you're asking about intended actions (Will you vote for X or Y?) rather than feelings (Do you like X?). For another, you have a definate proof to how accurate your poll was -- did your percentages match the results? It's harder to prove that 35% of a group disapproves of something.

I don't mention approval polling much unless someone is claiming that everyone is mad at Obama. In reality, his approval (and disapproval) numbers have been pretty stable since March, though there's some mild slide in the last two weeks. Incidentally, looking at that chart you can see the curiousness of Rasmussen's numbers. Not really the approvals but the disapprovals which are 10+ points higher than anyone else. Either Scott Rasmussen has a lot of cranky people in his phone book or else he's using a significantly different metric to determine disapproval than anyone else.

The problem I had with Bush with regards to polling was not that I cared about the polls, but that he apparently did.
