Maybe if I close my eyes and squint and do some heroin, I can pretend that what you gleamed from that quote makes any sense.

You are a straight, white man. You are not black. You are not latino. You are not gay. You are not a woman. You did not have to worry, on your trek to become a mature adult, that people would irrationally hate you for something you couldn't change. You did not have to worry about rape. You did not have to worry about a hate crime.

You will not have the same perspective on a hate crime issue as a wise Latina woman because of that. All Sotomayor said is that the hypothetical woman has a far higher chance to reach a different conclusion than the white man. If an issue about hate crimes related to the Latino population of Florida came before the court, Sotomayor would sure as hell have a better perspective on that as opposed to anyone else on the bench. That's the point she was making. Trying to pretend that her statement is inaccurate is ******** that you're spewing because you don't want to just accept the fact that you have no idea what you're talking about.

You're kidding, right? I paraphrased, but it's virtually an exact quote. Maybe you should lay off the heroin? Just a thought...

Oh god! Please not the "A white person can never understand how lucky he is to be white!!!" post. This is the lamest and most tired excuse for bigotry I've seen, yet it seems to be far too commonly expressed. It's a little hard for me to accept an argument for Sotomayor not expressing racist statements, when the primary defense for them includes yet more racist statements.

I'll just take your post as confirmation that when Sotomayor was spewing racist garbage, you were her target audience. You clearly have bought the "the white man is the enemy of everyone else" line completely...

And she doesn't have the same perspective as I do. Whew! And did you seriously say I don't have to worry about being the victim of a hate crime? So. No white guy ever got jumped by a group of blacks or latinos for being white in the wrong neighborhood, right? Oh no. That never happens. I suppose you excuse that as justified punishment for past wrongdoings by other white people though...

Amazing!

And you just accused me of misquoting?! She said that the latina has a higher chance to reach a better conclusion. Funny. If this wasn't a problem for your "it wasn't a racist statement" theory, then why did you have to change it?

She said "better". Not "different". Better. Get it? Sheesh!

No. She'd have a "different" perspective. That does not in any way mean that she would make a "better" ruling. It's funny that you keep switching these words around. Diversity gives you a different perspective, and should include respecting the perspectives of others. Bigotry makes you think that your perspective is "better".

Quote:
That's the point she was making.

Lol. No. It wasn't. I even specifically said that had she said something like this, no one would have had a problem. It's not about diversity and different perspectives. It's about her believe that her own perspective makes her views "better". Get it? Or do I need to repeat it 800 more times (and I know you all love it when I do that).

Different is not better. Different is not better....

You might want to turn that mirror back on yourself. And lay off the heroin!

It seems to me that she is referring to the racial and sex discrimination, and it does make sense to me that a wise women with experience with such discrimination would in fact make a better choice, as she would, hopefully, be less likely to rule discriminatorily by race or gender.

Coming fom you, this statement makes me want to both weep and ROFL.

You of all people on this forum have got to be the most set in his/her thinking, and utterly disdainful of any who disagree with you.

I would point out about now that you are the bigot, but I just can't.

Bigots are better people than you.

You are a goddam fascist.

Electoral-Vote.com had a breakdown of the nine Republican votes that went for Sotomayer. Snowe & Collins made up two of them, surprising no one. Three of them (Graham, Lugar and Alexander) have things in their personalities/history which help explain it and the remaining four were all retiring. In fact, all of the retiring GOP senators except Bunning* voted to confirm Sotomayer.

Meaningful? Maybe, maybe not. It sure looks on the surface though that those GOP senators who were free to vote their conscience rather than try to gain favor among the right-wing voters found no reason to not confirm Sotomayer.

*Edit: Hutchinson and Brownback both voted "no" and are retiring from the Senate but are running for their states' governorship. So they're still beholden to the voters in 2010 unlike the true retirees.

Uh, no? I'm white, ******** If Amalieque came roaring into the Asylum claiming that every white man in the world hates black people, I would call him a fucking imbecile. Sorry that you have to function in absolutes, but I'm not going to do the same for your entertainment.

White people are rarely killed or jumped for solely being white. I'm not going to be like you and make wild assumptions, but you're making it seem like you have absolutely no experience working with poor people, inner city people, or interacting with any culture other than middle-class folk. I recommend you do some community service near whatever city you are in - just focus on not being a judgmental douchebag and I assure you you'll get along fine.

If I were to go walk around some of the worst parts of Buffalo at this time of night, I would get jumped. It's not because I'm white, it's because they're the worst neighborhoods in one of the poorest cities in the country. If I walk around them during the day in a fancy suit with a fancy town car following me, I'm going to get jumped. It's not because I'm white, it's because I'm being a pompous piece of ****.

Sorry, I messed up a word. She would make a better conclusion. You can sit there and pout all you want about this amazing insight I'm sure you have into various cultures, but the rest of us are just going to roll our eyes and ignore you.

My mother has a PhD. She has a different perspective on higher education than I do. Her perspective is better. Why? Because she's experienced it.

I have a different perspective on how the French should handle something. They have a better perspective because they know their culture and how their government works far better than I do.

See how this is working? You just don't like it because it's race. Get over it.

Hey, douchebag, do you read Gbajis' posts?

Fascism, pronounced /ˈfæʃɪzəm/, comprises a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology and a corporatist economic ideology (to mean the promotion of the interests of private business corporations in government over the interests of the public).

Fascists believe that nations and/or races are in perpetual conflict whereby only the strong can survive by being healthy, vital, and by asserting themselves in conflict against the weak.

Fascists advocate the creation of a single-party state.

Fascist governments forbid and suppress criticism and opposition to the government and the fascist movement.

Fascism opposes class conflict, blames capitalist liberal democracies for its creation and communists for exploiting the concept.

Fascism is much defined by what it opposes, what scholars call the fascist negations - its opposition to individualism, rationalism, liberalism, conservatism and communism.

ALSO: a person who is dictatorial or has extreme right-wing views

I went ahead and highlighted the bits that a constant reader of Gbajiwisdom can't possibly have missed.

ALSO: ALSO: If I were to slam Gbaji and be absolutely closed-minded myself then, yes, I'd be a hypocrite. However, I am not close-minded, or absolutely assured of my own rightness as he, so I'm not.

ALSO: ALSO: ALSO: In fact, Gbaji is the only conservative on this board I can recall ever calling a fascist, because he fits the definition.

Thanks for playing, though.

Bijou, I don't think Gjabi's a facist. I just think he's clueless. He's like Dilbert's boss, completely sure he's right about everything, and anyone that disagrees is totally wrong. I can even picture the pointy hair.
