They can if they become non-profit organizations. Which is probably what the health care insurance industry should be, honestly. It's disturbing to see people making money off of illness and disease.

Wow! It's disturbing that people think the way you do. If more people were responsible and the trial lawyers were kept in check the cost of health insurance would be half as expensive as it currently is. Insurance companies assume risk. Everyone that's a part of those companies pays into a pool to mitigate the costs of accepting certain risks.

Do you expect people to work for free? Who gets to tell them how much they can make? I don't see you getting your panties in a wod over all the new leer jets Congress just bought. I don't see you getting your panties in a wod over how much money congress is spending on junkets and vacations at the taxpayeres expense. I don't see you raising a fuss about doing something about the ambulance chasing attorneys that force doctors to have to pay outrageous premiums for their malpractice insurance.

It's sad that you think companies that make a profit are evil. The wealth envy is really clouding your common sense.

I don't think that companies tha tmake a profit are evil. I do think that companies who make a profit off of illness, disease, and pain caused to a human being is evil.

People don't work for free in a non-profit company. You sound like a moron, Varus. I expected better.

If you could be so kind as to inform me how "bait and switch" should be applied here, I would appreciate it.

According to varus, high-end clothing lines like Burberry, Gucci, etc. should have been out of business years ago because of places like Wal-Mart that sell cheaper clothing.

Thank God he doesn't run anything in this country.

Well duh...

Bait and switch. Show the people one thing, tell the people one thing then do something completely different. If this bill gets passed that's it. No going back. No saying well this isn't a good plan for most americans and is driving the country bankrupt.

Don't you think we should fix medicare and medicaid before we start f*cking up the best health insurance industry in the world?

How do you mean, "fix Medicare"? Stop borrowing against the fund? Sure, that'd be nice.

If I ran this country you would be paying half what you pay in health insurance. If I ran this country people who've made poor and irresponsible decisions would not be bailed out by the govn. If I ran this country our doctors wouldn't be scared sh*tless of trial attorneys. If I ran this country you would keep most of your income, so you could actually afford to purchase the best healthcare rather than the govn leftovers. Yeah times would be tough if I was running the show.

You think it's going to be any different if national healthcare passes? They'll have a fund and politicians will borrow against it. It's a given.

So what would you do with them? Stick them in debtors prison? Let them starve and die on the streets? Force them to work 100+ hour weeks to pay off their debt to society? Inquiring minds want to know.

You're too stupid to understand why any good private business selling insurance would remain afloat, but you're going to claim you can do all that?

Interesting. Carry on.

News Flash: We do not have the best health insurance system in the world. Not by far. Not when at least a tenth of our population isn't even covered.

And, once again, if they are going to pull an illegal bait and switch, then the private companies will be in good shape, because people will return to them.

Really, you just sound silly.

You sure claimed it was. If only I cared enough to find the quote.

Any good insurance company will find a way to stay in profitable business. All the bad ones that are doing it to make a quick buck will probably fail.

EDIT: Before you latch onto it, I mean bad as in "not business savvy."

What does quality of care have to do with who's covered? And i've been in europe and heard horror stories from aquaintances in the UK and Spain. So if you want to trot out some small socialist country where the govn owns everything and everyone as an example because they have a decent healthcare system they pay ridiculous amounts of taxes for you go right ahead.

You do realize that 1/10 of our population is unemployeed. Does that mean our economy is horrible?

We are talking about healthcare insurance. Not the quality of care. You do realize that... right? There is a large difference between the two. A very large difference. And for every horror story you might've heard, I imagine I can trot out at least two that are glowing reports.

Oh, and right now yes, our economy is in horrible condition. Haven't you heard?

People should get insurance before they get sick. There are some exceptions but they are few and far in between. Most of the people in this country that don't have health insurance are so because of choice.

Wow, so you're in favor of a mandate!? I wouldn't have guessed that.

You need to considerably lower your expectations.
