My mom is a big booster against Question One, outlawing same sex marriage in Maine. So far, she's optimistic--a sentiment that is not misplaced.

I'll just say if Maine votes no, between that and Olympia Snowe voting for the healthbill (despite her party--but a view that is consistent with her platform and constituency opinion), I'll be so darned proud to be from Maine.

We're inching along out here. I'm a little surprised that the judge refused to dismiss, but hey.

My mom and brother both got their absentee ballots so they can vote no on Question One, just in case they can't get to the polls. My sister and brother in law are also voting no. :)

If I lived in Maine I'd vote no as well. What stinks is that something like Question One is going to come up every single time because some people just can't understand that two women making out is a thing of beauty.

Wait, what's that? This law means that dudes are going to be making out too? Gross, @#%^ that noise. Dudes don't let dudes make out with other dudes, VOTE YES ON QUESTION ONE.

I don't want to be Mr. Killjoy, but polling here is going to be greatly skewed relative to actual results dependent on either side's ability to get people to the polls in an otherwise low profile, largely meaningless, election. History hasn't shown that the "meh, I don't care who gets married" folks cancel their regular Wheel Of Fortune viewing to get out and vote. The ********** them ************* crowd, on the other hand...

I'm hopeful, but I'd consider this to be a very close thing, likely leaning towards the no side at present. Maybe it'll snow heavily in the 2nd District and Portland will deliver enough votes for a win. :)

Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

Maybe if you, Smasharoo, went around soliciting people for gay sex and collecting the torsos of those that turned you down the outcome would be more likely to be no.

Surely these anti gay puritan types have more to worry about than a few people marrying? What happened to the economic decline, the war on terror, the drive for greater education standards, the need for world peace and the need for free wine and bread for every member of the population?

If people put as much effort into loving each other as waging snide, malicious, religious based war, everyone would benefit.

Religion bleh, long live civil partnerships.

So what I'm really saying is .. good luck Smiley: smile

The opposition (yes on 1) is campaigning heavily with the use of school curriculum.

portland press herald wrote:

Marc Mutty of Yes on 1 released a 10-paragraph statement saying that gay marriage will be taught in Maine schools unless the state's gay-marriage law is repealed, regardless of whether it's an official part of state-mandated curriculum.

The states AG was asked to make a statement:

pph wrote:

Mills said there would be no effect on curriculums if the law stands, but also noted local school boards "determine the exact content of each district's curricula."

AG gets slammed.

It's really gonna be a matter of which side can get people to the polls. As kill-joy mentioned, the average joe isn't gonna bother.

They should tie in voting no with it being a ban on snowmobiles too. That'd get those County folks out.

Well there is question 5, which further legalizes dope.

Problem is the bill would require the Department of Health to oversee dispensing it. DoH says it's not real comfortable with the oversight of a federally illegal activity.

Had I been against gay marriage before, this speech would have the power to change my belief structure.

I just realized that after months of Obama not getting anything done, suddenly there's massive progress in "trivial" things us liberals champion like equal rights, legalization of pot, & most likely there will be some progress on healthcare reform.

I agree with Bill Mahr, he should just repeal "don't ask don't tell" now & get all the t-baggers riled up about that. Then he can pass the public option when the t-baggers lose any sort of traction by their homophobic posture on gay marriage.

Healthcare is complicated. Gay rights? Not so much. If the lawyers for the "against gay marriage" case in CA can't even give the judge a single example how gay marriage affects the sanctity of traditional marriage, since they themselves concede it doesn't affect the whole "procreation" aspect of the sanctity of marriage, qhat chance do the t-baggers really have of coming up with something besides "It's Adam & Eve not Adam & Steve!" signs?

Being outed for the racist, homophobic bastards they are is the best thing that could happen to Obama's agenda.
