Where the Wild Things Are: Parent's Review?Follow

I want to take Hannah to see Where The Wild Things Are. Smash has concerns that it may be too traumatizing. Anyone here seen it yet? It's rated PG, I understand that it still has a good deal of possibly controversial stuff in it for little kids. My thought is that such material would be great conversation material for us. We like to talk about feelings, what makes her happy/sad/angry...what are appropriate ways of dealing with such emotions, etc...so I'm basically unconcerned. I'd still like to hear the thoughts of those who have seen it.

I personally believe from the glimpses I've had of Hannah, her behavior and attitude that she is perfectly capable of dealing with this movie. I haven't seen it but the previews make it seem whimsical enough to be a decent blend of both the emotional real life and fantasy aspects.

It doesn't really seem any more traumatizing than The Neverending Story.

She was playing with some floating penguin bath toys the other night in her bath...I asked her how it was going and she told me the penguins are her family, but that they're all dead.

I think she'll be ok.

NEEDS MOAR BLOG UPDATES!

I saw it yesterday with Xavier. Even at age 7 1/2 a lot still went over his head. It did make for some fantastic discussions between the two of us after, but for most young kids, it's not a movie I would take them to see. Hannah is pretty damn smart and will get some of it. But most likely not all. Id say use your judgement.

I have to admit, aside from the AMAZING costumes I was disappointed. It was like a childrens book was taken to become an adult or older kids movie with some dark deep meaning in every minute. Which I get, it's what the book was (kind of) about (a kid having trouble and then being put in the role of the parent and seeing how hard it really is) but I felt it was taken to an extreme for whats supposed to be a kid movie. Half the issues the wild things were dealing with young kids wouldnt understand in the first place. Also the shaking camera was bothersome. It's almost as if they put all their funds into the costumes and then half assed the rest of it.

I think she'll be fine. I'd be more worried about her exposure to Smash.

Smash might bet your daughter in a poker game!

I remember I went and saw Shrek in the theater, and a little kid cried when Fiona was singing and the bird exploded.

So you know. Kids are dumb.

So, how was it? I really want to see this movie.

As an aside, it's hard to get Charmaine to watch movies now because she's so jaded about how movies are produced, she has almost no "wow" factor when she watches something.

I should take her to watch Paranormal Activity then.
