nobody's happy

Pretty funny, also quite true. We very quickly become very irritated at inconveniences that are more convenient then the conveniences we would have been happy about before we found out about the latest tech.

For the people who can't watch youtube atm, it's a very funny rant. The idea is that you can discover a convenience like internet on a plane, and then get really mad when it's slow, or if the next plane doesn't have it. The convenience makes us miserable, because we have an instant expectation that we deserve something that we didn't even know about just previously.

The trick is to slowly wean yourself off those sorts of conveniences.

Like, I haven't had cable television in 10 years. Our TV is unplugged 95% of the time, except when we get an urge to fire up the PS2. Thus, whenever I see any sort of television programming at all, I'm surprised and delighted by it, even if it's a terrible show on Cartoon Network or the Food Network or Discover Channel. (I'm slightly nauseated when it's Fox, but even that is a unique experience.)

Since I don't surround myself with television, I'm never bored with it when it's there.
