Seeing as internet message boards are great resources for this type of information, Does anyone have good information on generally respected strategic policy groups, preferably of the Prog-Lib slant?

Brookings Institution (Wiki)

Been accused of being all over the spectrum from liberal to centrist to conservative. I think most places give it a liberal-centrist bent, though.

Thanks. I've also heard Cato being tossed around, but it seems they've got a occasional jackass quotient.

Also, RAND.

Cato isn't Prog/Lib if you are about that. For that matter, if you want to slant to the Right, you have the Heritage Foundation. Although I'd take their reports with healthy skepticism, they're more of a "Fox News" than a "World Net Daily" in that they garner some level of respect.

Cato is Libertarian, and appears to contains some on the prog side, some on the other. Which is healthy. At least from what I've seen thus far.

I'm no expert. I do know that 99.95% of the time I hear someone saying "A report by the Cato Institute says...", it's coming from a conservative media source. It could just be that they put out more studies saying "Taxes are bad and public programs are destroying America!" than saying "Legalize gay marriage!" regardless of their stances.

Yeah, it appears their strategy on that front is supporting court cases (like Lawrence v. Texas etc.), and repeal of DOM rather than public taxes are bad appeals.

It's a funny coincidence, but I got offered a job this morning as a researcher in a think-tank. I think I'm going to take it.

What sort of commission are you paying us when you come here asking us to find your research for you?

Do these people rent a rather large number of hotel rooms every year or have money they see a need to have invested in hotels? If not, I see no reason to network them.

Red's going to have to up the ante for me here.

It is likely that organizations that fly people around to do research, disseminate ideas and give press releases would occasionally require hotel accommodations.

It's a think-tank on local government called the NLGN.

And I'm not sure what I can offer should I ever ask you for research. But since this conundrum is unlikely to arise, I'm gonna go with "rocket-propelled sharks". That's right, plural.

This is a man who knows how to compensate!

Also, occasionally is of little interest in the grand scheme of things TLW.

I've just realised that, by now, TLW probably has my credit card number and knows the name of my first girlfriend. Damn interwebs...

They can probably afford better, though.

Fair enough.

Rocket-propelled sharks are better anyway.

Yea, we don't really deal in luxury hotels for people who think they're important, but aren't.

Yeah, well, it's not like we'd ever need to ask Canada anything anyway. Unless, I don't know, we got a problem with our freezer and it decided to churn out incredible quantities of ice all over our kitchen and we'd be all like "Oh no, what are we gonna do with all that extra ice?!?! I know, let's ask Canada!"

Here, let me help you out on this one now. Melt it and sell it to the northeast US. They need everything.
