Wohoo small businesses aren't going to have to pay a capital gains tax for one year. This single act is going to usher in a new era of hirings and economic growth the likes of which the US hasn't seen in 50yrs.

Wonder if anyones told Obama that small businesses aren't paying a capital gains tax right now? Or that the threat of a 5% increase in operating expenses for small businesses via Obamacare and the elimination of W's tax cuts as well as a war tax threaten to increase small businesses operating expenses 10%. And this is just the beginning.

War tax? why do we have a war tax, again?

Oh, yeah, it's because Dubya forced us into an unnecessary war while we were already trying to hunt down terrorists in Afghanistan.

And Bush's refusal to put the war costs into the general budget, instead relying on seven years of emergency supplemental funding to cover it.

#6REDACTED, Posted: Dec 08 2009 at 12:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah we know liberals love to blame W for everything. Unfortunately for them this is Obama's economy and the majority know it. 10% tax increases small businesses can look forward to if they repeal W's tax cuts and pass Obamacare. No wonder you want to blame everything on W, if you're actually forced to look at what Obama is doing you would be as p*ssed as MOST small business owners.

I can't imagine who else was to blame for Bush refusing to put the war costs into the general budget for seven years. If you know of someone who might have had a greater role in that, let me know.

I am pissed. Pissed that Obama has to spend so much energy fixing the mess Bush left. You would be, too, if you'd quit drinking that kool-aid.

What exactly qualifies as a "small business?"

As far as healthcare reform goes, unless you pay more than $500,000 annually in payroll, you're exempt from any requirements. Not to mention a rolling two year tax credit to those small businesses who want to provide health insurance when they aren't required to. And then, of course, there's the opportunity for a small business to purchase health insurance at the same rate that the large businesses purchase health insurance.

I'm seeing a lot of upsides on the small business front, at least as far as "Obamacare" goes.

Do you mind explaining what you're talking about? I don't know what 5% increase you're talking about.

Hm. Obama is actually passing an *additional* tax cut to small businesses to encourage hiring in '10...meanwhile, Republicans are preventing him from using unused and returned TARP funds for more job-creating projects. I mean, I'm all for paying down our defecit but $200B into $1.4T (annual shortfall) seems like an exercise in futility. I would imagine that putting unemployed Americans back to work and growing small businesses would increase the tax base and put us back on a more financially stable footing.

But then again, I'm not a professional financial analyst so I probably shouldn't even look at this thread...

Barking,

BS...Obama and the Democrats made the mess the economy is in. Do you even realize that the Dems have controlled congress for over 3yrs now? Do you? And yet you can still sit here and blame W for the economy. Just the talk of Obamacare and the huge "stimulus" have caused an enormous strain on the economy and why unemployment is 10% and probably going higher.

But you go right on blaming W. Let's see how many more years you whacked liberals can play that card.

Please show causative linkage in support of your magical thinking.

Oooh. I didn't know that healtcare reform made the banks give out sub-prime mortgages and caused banks to fail. Thank you for enlightening us, Varrus! Smiley: rolleyes

Do you know how most small businesses file their taxes? Any business that's files over 250k is going to lose W's tax cuts and those same businesses that think they pay their employees enough for them to pay their own healthcare will be forced to pick up a govn plan. All in all these two factors, along with Obama's war tax will raise small business overhead 10%. And you wonder why no one is hiring.

I don't know much about W's tax break, so I'll humor you on that. Though you're wrong about so much, I have my doubts.

As for the healthcare, you should really read up on it. Small businesses that have an annual payroll of less than $500,000 will not be required to offer healthcare coverage. Larger employers can choose to either offer affordable coverage or contribute 8% of payroll towards coverage.

And as for the war tax, it seems to me that no one can win with you. We're in the middle of two wars. We have to pay for them somehow. You want us to fight in Afghanistan and send more troops and fight in Iraq, but you don't want to have to pay for it?

Except that the war tax is an income tax adjustment that ends up being roughly 1% for those earning $150,000 or less.

Actually that would the Democrats who FORCED banks to give out sub-prime mtg's which caused the banks to fail and the US govn to gobble them up like a fat kid on thanksgiving.

I would love to hear how you came to that conclusion.

...That would be the point of a war tax.

Instead of the same thing, but ultimately paying more through the virtue of compound interest.

Well, you brought up "war taxes" and I was talking about those. Is there a reason you don't want to discuss something you were the first to bring up? Why the need to change the topic?

Wait...I thought Democrats were *for* regulations and restrictions?

Left or right, this is a product of capitalism at its worst. The model that *you* endorse.
